Isn't Final Fantasy 11 on 360?? I mean TECHNICALLY its a LAST Gen MMO as far as consoles go call it was on PS2 first.

at any rate, I cant wait to get my hands on this. I just hope its not a lot of people out there making a bunch of Supermans, Batmans, or Spider-mans. as long as people use CREATIVITY this game will be very promising. I'm going to have to think of some other characters myself because it would appear as if the Super Hero I made up back in '94 has materialized as partially Static Shock and Cole McGrath...but my electricity controlling character could fly without a metal frisbee...

You can only fight alongside the iconic superheroes. There are some cool videos on the PSN about charcter creation and story archs.

Yeah that would get pretty annoying after a while. I wouldn't mind seeing people make heroes/villians from other companies like maybe The Savage Dragon or Shadowhawk. Kind of like people creating Fedor in the UFC game and all of the LBP costumes people have made using the paint tool.

Yeah definitely, CREATIVITY.
I will be making my superspiderbat-dude3000™, He will totally be able to swing while flying upside down with a cool ring for time travel 30 second into the past. He's from the future where time is a minute ahead his kid twin sister superspiderbat-gal3000™ is from the present where time is correct her ring of course travels 30 seconds into the future.

See just as creative as superman, supergirl, batman,batgirl,spider-man,spider-woman, wonder twins and the Legion. DC I am available for hire.

I'm not sure if you can make spiderman because last i heard there were three types of travel speed, flight, and high jumping. Nothing to do with webs. But maybe there's more customization then i thought.

if superspiderbat-dude3000™ can fly whats the point of swinging. One minute in the future doesn't make sense since theirs nothing that happens in 1 min which means he has to be in the same time line as where he is. And if he uses his ring twice is he in the same time zone as us and how many times has he used it in his life time?

I'm so confused!

You keep the lag under control and this game is a sure-fire win. I love Marvel Comics, but then again, I've never really given DC a chance aside from Superman and Batman. I'm definitely interested in getting to know what DC has and this game would certainly be a good tool.

looks honestly, besides me of course, DC comics really blow. I try my hardest to like them, but they're usually just god awful. Especially if Grant Morrison gets his hands on something like he did with Final Crisis, he might have great ideas, but his execution is terrible. I've always actually preferred the non comic stuff from DC over the actual comics, id rather watch Justice League Unlimited than ever read a Justice League comic, at least the current ones.

It doesn't look THAT bad, especially considering it's an MMO, it's never going to look on par with single player games.

I think this looks interesting, but there's way too many other MMO's out there now, and I prefer the idea a completely original super hero universe, like Champions Online. If this is free to play, then I'll give it a go, but otherwise it's just going to be swept along in the crowd.

Snowblind

Everytime there is a PS3 exclusive you always say the same thing ... This looks OK but I prefer ... 360 exclusive whatever ... because of ... whatever reason.

I thought Champions looked awesome from some of the early bullshots but the more I've seen and heard about it the less I like what I've seen. City Of Heroes/Villians is really a love it or hate it affair and I suspect Champions Online is going to be more of the same. I honestly think this game is essentially the scraps left over from the Marvel Universe Online game they were developing that got cancelled.

You do know that this DCU game only lets players use completely unique superheroes/villians that they created themselves? The main characters are there as NPC's and story archs depending on the character class one selects. The only thing is there are NPC assisted quests but other than that the game is completely original. So, in that sense it's just like Champions Online except it also has star power.

Champions Online isn't a 360 game :P

But the fact I tend to prefer 360 games is why I prefer the 360 over the PS3. No need to take it personally, there are still plenty of PS3 games I enjoy.

@Snowblind: City of Heroes has a completely original universe, but Champions is a licensed property (a pen/paper rpg), albeit one that many people have probably never heard of. I certainly hadn't heard of it before they picked it up.

MMO FPS? MAG (check)
MMO Super Heroes? DCU (check)
MMO Lite? Free Realms (check)
MMO Espionage? The Agency (check)
MMO RPG? FF 14 (check)

It looks like Sony will be able to claim the highest selling console MMO sometime in the near future between all these titles. Not that it's that big of an accomplishment kind of like the best selling console RTS :cough: Halo Wars: cough:

Out of all those games I mentioned I'm most stoked about MAG but I'm kind of digging all of them to be honest. I might even get into some Free Realms ... because it's free. Maybe if a few of these are successful the PS3 can get a console version of the new Old Republic MMO.

There's also the niggling issue of any of them ever being released. The Agency is still pre-alpha and they were showing that at last year's E3. They also are saying that Sony is giving SOE all sorts of hassling with regards to the regular updates/patches that come along with MMOs. DCUO looks to be the most promising for an actual release (and MAG, again, is NOT an MMO). Here's hoping it actually comes out! Game looks (and plays) really great!

MAG is an online, 256 player, first person shooter for the PlayStation 3. Join a Private Army. Grow your skills. Wage war against the opposition and claim victory for your faction!

To me it is without a doubt an MMO FPS. You can call it what you like and I'll call it an MMO. Everyones happy ;)

Definitions for MMO:

A massively multiplayer online game. A computer game in which a large number of players can simultaneously interact in a persistent world.

Acronym for Massively Multiplayer Online. A network required environment where interactions with other 'real' characters is the key.

Massively Multi-player On-Line(MMO) games are played on the internet with many people i.e.. Everquest.

A massively multiplayer online game. A computer game in which a large number of players can simultaneously interact in a persistent world.

MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online
MAG has 256 players online at once, so yeah, it can be considered Massive
There is more than 1 players, there are 256 players, so its multiplayer
Only way to play it its online

So yeah, MAG is a MMO. Try to prove me wrong

when you think MMO you think of THOUSANDS to MILLIONS on a game at once most interacting with each other....with MAG 256 is what you get....sure each battle will influence the overall MAG world but it nothing like what MMO's are

I'd say MAG is a border line MMO

It doesn't consist of the same features and function of a normal MMO. The one difference i see is an MMOs have no end. While MAG consists of beginnings and ends all the time. The structure is different which is why people don't like calling it an MMO because MMOs can be seen as an insult to gaming.

There are MMO RTS games that are instanced with battles that start and end. I like to think the term MMO isn't as a rigid as most of you are trying to say it is. It's a flexible definition and MAG meets that criteria at every step of the way. It's an MMO.

@Marius

Game Informer had a hands on from MAG prior to E3 and they said the game is amazing. Can't remember the exact issue but it was within the last 3-4 I believe.

Joystiq had a hands on of MAG earlier this year as well that was pretty positive:

Wow Chris, lame try, really!!!!

I played a lots of MMO, bouth public and private server. The time i spent playing ragnarok online on iRO, hardly there were 10000 players at once, and those were when the War for Emperium were taken place, but never thousands of millions.

I dont think neither on WoW are thousands of millions connected at the same time, on the same world, interacting. I can see tens of millions, but no thousands.

Still, "Massive" is a redundant words whichs definition changes by ones perspective, like once was told in Pen & Teller, we get to understand 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, many, a bunch, but when it comes to x bunches.... yeah, we are lost

Nor me, I think it may be because it requires less skill to use, wheras if you had a fully fledged out combat system, people insanely good at it would be unstoppable (See Street Fighter online play), hence it wouldn't be profitable, as it would only be accessible to insanely good people. (Ie not entitled casuals or casuals.)

Actually Manly, the first Robin is Batman, the second is presumed dead though probably Red Hood, the third is Red Robin, the fourth (female) was only Robin for a very short time, got fired and then died (and then came back) and Bruce Wayne's son is the fifth Robin. At least right now.
