Sims 3 has best EA PC launch ever
Just in case you forgot: The Sims is a huge, huge franchise. Just how huge was demonstrated last week when The Sims 3 sold 1.4 million units, making it the best PC game launch in EA's history. If you're still not convinced of the hugeness: The iPhone version of the game became the top-selling paid iPhone app, even with its $9.99 price tag, in about 18 hours.
So just remember, kids: When someone tells you that PC gaming is dead, your mom's the one giving it CPR.

Storm Eagle @ Jun 10th 2009 10:49AM
+1 Little Giants reference.

nukee @ Jun 10th 2009 11:30AM
And only idiots use torrents to get their warez.
Ghen @ Jun 10th 2009 11:31AM
my wife torrented the sims 3
Whats your point again?
Victor @ Jun 10th 2009 11:32AM
My point was a joke, but I forgot internet is serious business.
Marlan @ Jun 11th 2009 7:05PM
"only idiots use torrents" ? lol what do you use? Limewire?
Matt @ Jun 25th 2009 2:49AM
Hey now, my girlfriend loves her some ISOhunt.
SaNcTuS @ Jun 10th 2009 10:37AM
I like the sims 3. Great game but I'm pissed. After playing for like an hour and half or so, my sim died. Lost all that progress. grrr...time to start saving constantly. I suggest everyone does that as well.
bobartig @ Jun 10th 2009 5:32PM
I once had a sim die almost right off the bat. I had a small house, and a cooking skill of 0, or 1. All I did was go make a toaster pastry in the oven, and it caught on fire. My sim (must have had a fear of fires) froze when the fire started (panic animation) while the flames spread and surrounded him, blocking off his only means of escape. Even with a smoke detector, the fire department didn't come in time, and he died of... I'm not really sure how they die from fires.. but it looked like -Hygiene killed him.
Now all my sims sit down and read a cooking book for like 6 hours at the beginning of the game no matter what. Those 3 points of cooking can save your life!!!
Cory @ Jun 10th 2009 10:37AM
Now only if they would fix all the freaking bugs in the game. God its annoying. Seriously they delayed the game from Feb. to June they could have at least worked out all the kinks.
ducttapeBigSexy @ Jun 10th 2009 11:26AM
And that's the number one reason why I gave up on PC gaming - I got sick of endlessly waiting for patches to fix issues that shouldn't have made it into the release version.
Speaking of bugs, my favorite is when a game advertises that it works best on some piece of hardware (NVIDIA, X-Fi, etc.), but it doesn't actually work with that hardware at all.
Shagittarius @ Jun 10th 2009 11:45AM
I can't think of the last time I started a PS3 or 360 game and didn't have to patch them after not playing them for a couple weeks.
The Baron @ Jun 10th 2009 11:46AM
You mean like SOCOM: Confrontation? Or the GTA4 console launch? (admittedly the PC version of the latter is beyond saving by patches)
ronEbear @ Jun 10th 2009 10:38AM
I pirated it at first, I then decided to actually buy it. I firmly believe that pirating helps sales in the long run.
Cory @ Jun 10th 2009 10:44AM
I highly doubt the majority of piraters go out and buy the game after they have downloaded it.
deanb @ Jun 10th 2009 12:47PM
I pirated, played it n thought "meh Sims 2 is still good enough" and saving my cash for something else.
Apart from an update to graphics n the really fiddly town thing going on its not £30 better than Sims 2, which I think hit Sims pretty much head on.
Oh n they screwed over the UI, it's horrible to buy stuff now.
BigD145 @ Jun 10th 2009 2:25PM
It's the only way to get a well rounded demo.

Your mom and everyone who's addicted to anything that says 'Blizzard' on it.
Storm Eagle @ Jun 10th 2009 10:49AM
MMMMmmmmmm.....Dairy Queen. *insert Homer Simpson drool here*
Storm Eagle @ Jun 10th 2009 10:48AM
I bought it for my fiancee. She loves the Sims. She says it's broken like nobody's business though. Apparently there's issues with the fast-forwarding of time and various other things. I dunno, it's not my thing.
PROTOTYPE TODAY BABY WHOOOOO!!!!!
I'm really sorry about that.
Devin @ Jun 10th 2009 11:06AM
LOLWTF Thats my biggest problem. The 3x speed is ridiculously slow. They need to hella patch that. I really do NOT want to watch my Sim sleep for 3 minutes.
deanb @ Jun 10th 2009 12:56PM
@Devin - it goes upto 4X now.
phr3qu3ncy441 @ Jun 10th 2009 2:51PM
i think the 4x just means fast-forward 3x until they finish an action. this prevents accidently fast-forwarding while they're doing nothing.
and srsly... absent-minded, worst trait ever. i lost count how many times my sim burned down the kitchen or stood there doing nothing because i didn't realize they decided to stop in the middle of going into town. i found it hilarious though... but i ended up just getting the mid-life crisis and trading out that trait, lol.
Sidebuster @ Jun 10th 2009 10:55AM
I went to go get it at Worst buy with my sister. I was happy to see some regular guy in line in front of us looking at the back of the game by himself. Sometimes with people like Storm Eagle who always say "oh I got it for my girlfriend/mom/fiance/sister/mistress"; I feel like I'm the only dude who loves The Sims.
Cory @ Jun 10th 2009 11:07AM
Hell no. I went to Best Buy and picked up the collector's edition. No shame!
nukee @ Jun 10th 2009 11:25AM
Fuck no. The Sims is an indulgence for anybody that considers themselves a gamer, regardless of gender.
BigD145 @ Jun 10th 2009 2:27PM
Congratulations, Cory. You paid $40+ for a $4 USB key.
Captain Planet @ Jun 10th 2009 10:58AM
This game makes me want to kick a puppy.
captainprotonx @ Jun 10th 2009 11:01AM
Captains like puppy kicking.
Storm Eagle @ Jun 10th 2009 11:04AM
I think you'll find that this will satisfy your puppy-punting cravings.

BigD145 @ Jun 10th 2009 2:27PM
Sorry, you'll have to pay $30 and wait 3 years to get Pets.
J @ Jun 10th 2009 11:12AM
why you gotta bring mommas into it?
Cosmo @ Jun 10th 2009 11:16AM
May PC gaming never die!!!
R (XBL: Esoteric Lord) @ Jun 10th 2009 11:31AM
*rolls eyes* saw this one coming. Young girls are practically worth their weight in gold to EA...
arisc2 @ Jun 10th 2009 11:37AM
and here we are again, the "pirate storm platform" bringing the big bucks for EA.... and how much did the sales were affected by the pirate version?? personally i think none, and keep in mind this are the sales of ONE week only, i hope this whole pirate thing starts to stop now, if a game is good it sells plain simple.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ Jun 10th 2009 11:57AM
Is there going to be a console version of this game?
deanb @ Jun 10th 2009 1:01PM
As with most RTS's it probably won't scale to console so well. Until developer realize you can plug KB n Mouse into a console that is.
Iphone's are chump change to develop for, hence that port (Iphone got Spore too), but making stuff like this work on console is an expensive pain.
It'll run on most PC's anyway ( this ain't Crysis) so it doesn't really need a console port as most folks have a PC that can play it.
DaveMcRae the Haiku Artist @ Jun 10th 2009 12:16PM
Fuck the haters, I am am very manly man, and I have more fun with the SIMS than with your average Space Marine Shooter.
uncle jesse @ Jun 10th 2009 12:28PM
It's hard to believe that you're 'very manly' when your name is 'the Haiku Artist'...
jokes
butaneko @ Jun 10th 2009 12:48PM
Anyone have this for iPhone? I kind of want to check it out but $9.99 in iPhone bucks is like $1.7 million in regular bucks.
Freak Mojo @ Jun 10th 2009 2:20PM
I've read reviews that say it's pretty good... obviously it won;t be as in depth than the PC version.
The only ding seems to be that it's crash prone... but it looks like the full game is too. So pick your poison I suppose.
I'm opting for the Computer version so I can get more torture from my gaming dollars.
343 Guilty Fart @ Jun 10th 2009 2:11PM
I tried to get into the first Sims, but I guess I'm not a fan of games with no end-game. "Get up, eat, go to work, buy some new item, repeat". I want games that distract me from my daily life, not games that constantly remind me of it. But obviously there are millions of folks out there who feel otherwise.
Mopo @ Jun 12th 2009 6:01PM
I don't get how people can play a game/simulation about every day life? Yes, I tried playing this a few times in the past and got frustrated with it...
Courtney @ Jun 11th 2009 12:23AM
My kid's playing it right now. It's probably the first game that she insisted we go out and get on launch day (and saved up her allowance in advance to make sure she had enough to get it).
