Famitsu lifts camouflage off Metal Gear Arcade
It's a little known fact that here at Joystiq we have a pretty extensive collection of coins, both big and small. It's a source of pride, but even so we're just as eager as you are to empty our piggy banks in the name of Hideo Kojima and his mysterious Metal Gear Arcade. The project was one of E3's most enigmatic announcements, with few details offered to accompany our baffled looks and gaping maws.
Now some news about the game comes from Famitsu's latest issue -- but you might want to sit down for this. No really, as the mag reports that Metal Gear Arcade will be played sitting down while wearing 3D glasses and using a "special controller that allows for separate movement and viewpoint controls." The game will also support both solo and 16-player co-op matches. It sounds like we'll be trading these quarters for yen when Metal Gear Arcade targets Japanese arcades later this year.

My dream game.
In arcade form.

The chances of seeing this on my shores seems pretty slim, but what a delicious description. It's own cabinet! 3D glasses! "A special controller that allows for separate movement and viewpoint controls!" - whatever that means.
It seems all so wonderfully decadant.

If I was rich I would have 16 of these things shipped over to my house for some epic deathmatches...sigh...a nerd can dream right?
gordo @ Jun 11th 2009 8:56AM
I just hope Mad Dog McCree doesn't shows up.

Reminds me of the HL2 arcade. Sounds interesting.

The thing looks like the cockpit of a Metal Gear and that ain't a bad thing... possible final stage?
Can you imagine a 16-player Metal Gear death match? What could possible be more epic than that?
Sly [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 11th 2009 1:35PM
24-player Metal Gear Deathmatch.

So is there a point at which this franchise is also being whored out? Or perhaps Hideo Kojima is above reproach.
Temidien @ Jun 11th 2009 10:10AM
Kojima whoring out? BLASPHEMY!!
buddyleer @ Jun 11th 2009 10:46AM
I totally agree. Even though I've loved the entire Metal Gear series, it seems like Kojima has started beating MG's corpse, hoping for money to pop out of it. I just hope that the quality doesn't go down.

Tokyo arcades are beyond awesome (Mario Kart in arcade form is amazing) which is unfortunately the only place this will ever be seen. :(

KingOfHearts @ Jun 11th 2009 10:53AM
We can only hope that this will be coming to america like Eddie Murphy... lol?
Its a pretty swank looking cabinet, tho. I'd love to try it out.

What? This is actually an arcade? I thought it was the PCs and 360s answer to PS3s Metal Gear Online..
NoughtSoClever @ Jun 11th 2009 11:26AM
What the heck is that controller thing on the arm rest looking part?

Ooooooh a "special" controller that allows for separate movement and viewpoint control??! Like 2 analog stocks or a mouse and keyboard?!
Olicon @ Jun 11th 2009 7:01PM
I hope it will be akin to M+KB, since it's the easiest to pickup and play. However, I'm betting on it being a more precise version of Wii's control.
mikelee.1015 @ Jun 11th 2009 3:19PM
maybe the reason why kojima is "whoring" out the MGS campaign and "beating the corpse" is because the technology has finally caught up to his vision? Just some food for thought
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 11th 2009 1:46PM
Arcades have changed.
Olicon @ Jun 11th 2009 7:00PM
Not in Japan. It's been one crazy game after another--this is but the tip of the the iceberg.
Mike @ Jun 12th 2009 12:00AM
Ah, damn. Stocks.
