I am a gold member and I think that is stupid. Pretty soon, I'm just going to stop using Xbox Live. Why do we have to pay for the service when there are 20 ads on it at any given time. They have so many advertisers, I wouldn't be surprised if they've already recouped for the red ringed consoles.

I don't see how you can complain about free stuff. You either take it or leave it. Are you mad because it's something less "meaty" like a map pack or new game mode? You know the people who design and code these things need to get paid for their time and hosting the content. And try not think about it in terms of everything that you take advantage of for your $50/year but everything that they offer. They're not there to cater to you, afterall.
I really need to play Saints Row 2 some more. Still haven't beaten it.

I wasn't saying that the ads are there because they wanted to make up for the broken consoles, I was just saying that they have to have(?) made a LOT of money from them so far. I'm complaining that we pay for a "premium" service, yet we have ads, which, to me, goes against the whole purpose of charging for the "premium" service.

90% of the time, when you are being charged for a "premium" service, you do not get ads. Look at GameTap, if you use the free version, you don't get to play all the games and you have ads, if you pay, you get all the games and no ads. Haven't watched it in a while, but HBO doesn't have ads unless it is for one of their own shows, if I remember correctly.

The same reason a lot of sites say "if you want to remove these ads, join our site!". It's pathetic American advertising at its finest. PSN is free, and there are next to no ads. Just a tiny little ticker at the top that does not use images, just text.

Maybe dumbasses like you are the reason why this crap is happening in the first place, Markez. I'm on my 360 all the time, so I'm no Sony fanboy. We also get party chat for paying, but it is constantly dropping people for no reason and I have not heard anything about them trying to fix it. They better not even dream of ever charging for 1 vs 100 since you have to look at an ad every 3 seconds.

I've never used party chat yet. And I notice my live drops as well occasionally, but it's due to my modem/router issues and not 360 related at all. Have the same stupid issues with my laptop. I've really been looking forward to checking out 1 v 100 but haven't yet, so didn't know it is flooded with ads. And honestly, NXE, you really notice tons of ads? I sure don't, and I don't really care that there are some.
I mean the post at hand is about SR2 free DLC. It's remarkably stupid DLC, I'll agree. Are you just pissed at the live experience overall, or this specifically?

I'm getting more upset with the entirety of LIVE. Half of the time, they don't address problems that people complain about. People complain every day to Major Nelson about the slow marketplace and he hasn't even given the company line on it. How can you NOT notice the ads? They are everywhere.

Lemme check it out now, typically I only notice ads in the main or spotlight channel..
Game marketplace I'm noticing now a Nestea ad amongst all the regular game adverts...
Video marketplace, I'm just noticing tv/movie stuff...
Inside xbox channel, a Doritos option to download a theme and a chance to win 1600 points...
Events, some douchey stuff in there to be sure, but nothing I'd consider an in your face advertisement.
I mean all in all it isn't really packed with ads, but I understand your gripe and annoyance at it. I just never notice it. I always know what I want when I hit the dash and don't really go to other stuff.
Isn't it a little silly to expect something out of Major Nelson, though? I thought he was just a meaningless PR figurehead, not the face of customer support? I haven't noticed any slowness per se in marketplace, but that's either because I'm going straight to Netflix, or straight the Fallout 3 DLC I know I wanted to buy.

Spotlight is the perfect example. Where does the dash default to? My Xbox should be the main section, but they make it Spotlight so there are more opportunities for you to see those ads. That chip ad/sweepstakes is one of probably over 100 of those type of ads. They have something like that for every other movie and occasionally a new car that is coming out.

This kinda makes PSN look much better if they're going to continue to do stupid exclusive stuff for Gold members like this (not that I'm silver or anything).
It just seems really unfair. It's FREE DLC and only half of the people that bought the game for the 360 won't be able to play with the new content because they didn't pay. And yet everyone on the PS3 who bought the game has access to it.

There ain't no such thing as a free DLC. There's a hidden cost to everything, basic economics. I guess MS figures it'll cost them more money to put it out there for silver members (costs of storage, bandwidth, and man hours) than it's worth. Gold members are already paying something so it's not as bad,

As far as what you said about Xbox Gold Members having already paid, none of that money goes to THQ so that's not a very smart thing to say. Microsoft probably just paid them to keep it Gold only so they can get more memberships. They are M-$ afterall.

Yeah, the unshaved Fallon model is kind of creepy there. It makes you think that the DLC is like "Saints Row Fit" with the model doing Tai-chi?!
But do not worry, this DLC will not split the community, and it will be seemless with the first Left 4 Dead. And that's a PROMISE :-)
