Halo 3: ODST wireless controller is Gamestop exclusive

We've just confirmed that in the U.S., the Halo 3:ODST Collector's Pack featuring the custom wireless Xbox 360 controller will be a Gamestop exclusive, although it will be available in other regions at participating retailers. The pack, which will set you back $99, is already available for pre-order on Gamestop's site, and includes access to the Halo: Reach beta.

Anyone who pre-orders Halo:ODST, not just Gamestop shoppers, will get the Sgt. Johnson token as well as the Halo: Reach invitation, although you'll be shelling out an extra $40 for the custom controller if you decide to upgrade ... which actually isn't bad considering that they still retail for $49.99. How hardcore of a Halo fan are you? This pack might be your breaking point.

EVERY person that buys ODST will have access to the Halo Reach beta. It will be launched directly from the ODST game disc, there will be no codes involved. Unless special discs are made for people who pre-order, then everyone can have access ;)

Woah woah woah, I thought ODST was going to "drop" at around $40, not full retail (that would make this a $60 controller). I guess MS couldn't resist the extra cash, despite Bungie's best intentions.

No. ODST will be $59.99 for just the game; check Gamestop's pre-order page. (That said I've been thinking of getting a 2nd controller anyway, perfect excuse here).

Indeed. Since its basically an expansion, and sort of short to boot it was going ot be $40. I though they said so explicitly at one point.

I'm not saying that GameStop isn't trying to charge us $60, I'm saying that Bungie stated that they didn't intend for this game to be a full-cost retail title, since they viewed it basically as an expansion pack (they are reusing tons of already developed assets from H3) instead of a full-on new game. It's lame that this did not pan out as they had stated, and I'm guessing the blame lies with Microsoft since they are the publishers.

I don't see it as a big deal. There's a lot of games developers initially make as an expansion that wind up getting turned into full games.

But it's not a full game. Short 3-5 hours campaign, and a mode that spawns tons of bad guys? If Bungie said it's not a full game, and they made it, it's not a full game.

I'm guessing it will be Game in the UK that get this exclusively. Waiting to place my order :).

Yeah - i think the Gamestop equivalent in the UK is GAME.

I've got around £13 worth of GAME points, so i'll be putting that towards the Collectors Edition :D

Darn you Gamestop. I'm tempted seeing as I have a wired controller (I have a strange thing against wireless but I'm getting over it) and want to upgrade. Plus it's green and that's my favorite color. So it's a maybe

I could really use a new controller... the pure white ones show the blood of anyone who uses it... and for some reason everyone who plays with my controllers happens to be injured and bleeding in some manner O.o...

In any case, the white controllers aren't great at hiding stains... or well even dirt or smudges, and as such I need something a bit... better...

But for 50 dollars... I could buy a game.

I have a great dislike for Gamestop. What I dislike even more is when they actually have something I want 'exclusively'. Sigh. The last time I had to do this was for Metal Gear Solid 4 CE. Here I go again.

But expect crickets after this Gamestop!

And to all developers. Please...get exclusives elsewhere...or better yet, get rid of them all together.
