@Lion-

It isn't that the company has made good games before, it's that - for many of us - the company has made 2 of the best games ever created. They are certainly not for everyone (and, unfortunately, their sales figures bear that out), but for those of us who connected with them, they are unparalleled. Team ICO's games are so effing amazing, they are the reason I ponied up $600 for a launch model, even though I knew it would be some time before I caught a glimpse of what they were working on.

And even if the trailer does nothing for you from a gameplay or story point of view, saying the graphics are anything less than amazing is just sad, jealous fanboyism. Are you seeing the quality of the lighting? Did you notice how each feather on the baby gryphon(?) moved independently in the wind? Christ, man, take off your red-ring colored glasses and just appreciate a fine piece of coding.

Guys, guys, guys! Not everyone has to love Team ICO and its creations. R does make a good point about there not being enough information to really judge the game right now. But, we can judge the game as to what clues the trailer has shown. We can also judge the game based on the track record of its creator.

From the trailer, this looks to be a platformer of the ICO kind, where the main character and a partner have to team up to escape an area. There also seems to be some stealth in the mix. So far so good. The trailer does show very little, so there's undoubtedly more that has not been revealed.

From the track record of Team ICO, this game will be superb. Let's face it, they've made two brilliant games in a row. I have faith that they'll create a third with the same quality.

Some valid inferences and predictions can be made about the control/gameplay even if the gameplay doesn't show much. Considering Team ICO's history, this game appears to use the same sort of adventure-style platforming that ICO and SotC shared to a degree. From the video, it looks like Last Guardian will be similar.

Also, keep in mind that there are those of us who will adore a game for the music, the art, the environment, the "feel" and "experience" of the game, regardless of what we can say about the gameplay. Which I think we can reasonably expect to be good anyways.

Alright, Ill be honest. Its really, really, really pretty looking.

But It doesnt look terribly fun. I mean i see a little bit of platforming, a smidgeon of combat, but mostly I see a litte kid running away from a kitty dragon over and over, nearly killing himself several times.

Just a trailer, not gameplay footage. I imagine the gameplay will be more involved and less...orchestral.

That's very similar to what I said about Shadow of the Colossus when I first watched my buddy playing it.
Just riding around on a horse with a bit of combat and platforming every once and a while.

Then I actually played it, and enjoyed it immensely.

I just dont get how people can get so excited over a game that they have no idea how it will play. Takes more than pretty art to make a good game. Guess thats the power of a company name. meh...

I will laugh if this ends up being Ico's verisoin of Nintendogs. Care for your own baby kitty dragon! lmao.

yeah Lord I'm with you....

My history aside I'm REALLY perplexed as to what has got all the sony fanboys hyped up about this game...

i mean graphically that vid doesn't look that great. And the trailer itself is just a big WTF to me...

I mean seriously guys this isn't about the fact that it's a ps3 game. Everything from the beginning to the end just seems random and just not fun. Even Heavy Rain despite the heavy storylines and the emphasis that will be on cutscenes and this new type of gameplay or whatever seems more interesting that THIS.

@Lord and The Lion

If you only own a 360 then why are you even in this thread? Stop talking down this game just because it doesn't have blood and guns in it. You should be ashamed to call yourself gamers. Im sorry that is Sony exclusive. It must hurt your feelings.

R, quit yer trolling. OBVIOUSLY the company name means a lot. Do people get excited about a Kojima game? Do people get excited over a Nintendo First Party Game? Why wouldn't people be excited over a game from Team Ico, especially since it looks like their first two games - that everyone LOVED.

Of course, I'm sure if it was on the 360 you'd be cumming all over it.

Yes, I have, and they were fun.

But I also played FFX, and then FFX-2, and FFXI and was disappointed with X-2 and XI

I also played golden eye, and the timesplitters, and then played haze and was disappointed. Ive played the old sonic games, and the new ones, and the new ones are disappointing. I can go on and on for hours about good companies, who make good games, hyping up their new game, the fanboys of that company going crazy, and then get disappointed. Hell, im a big halo fan and i havent even pre-ordered ODST yet because I still dont know enough about the combat to make a decision as to whether or not I will like it.

Getting super hyped up and crazy over a trailer like this is well...just not a very smart thing to do.

Just because its a good company making it, doesnt mean I am going to watch a trailer that contains nearly no information about the gameplay and then go and declare it the best game of all time, GotY, system seller, like everyone else seems to have done. Its an impressive display of technology, being made by a company with a good history, but that DOES NOT gurantee a good game.

I feel the need to point out that i am not in any way saying anything bad about this game. I am not calling the gameplay ugly, I am not calling it boring, I am not saying it will be bad.

I am just saying that there is really not enough information out to say it will be good.

When a much loved game company announces a new release I believe its justifiable to get excited, if for nothing more then in anticipation. True, nobody knows what precisely this game will play like, and there's always the possibility it will crash and burn. But I don't see anything wrong with expressing excitement over a trailer from a dev that has produced A++ titles in the past.

Graphics aren't everything so that's not even a major concern in my book. Especially since given time any game can improve in that department if the work is put in.

My main concern is just how dry and ultimately boring the "game" (if you can call that a game) looked.

However as far as the graphics go it looks a lil weak to me. Granted I'm watching this on Joystiq and on a school computer as I type this. But still the Killzone 2 vids looked way better and I watched most of them here on Joystiq.

You really must be a loser and get picked on everyday. Im about 100% sure you don't have a girlfriend and that you are a virgin. You like to cause trouble on websites because you lack the balls in real life to stand up to people. All girls laugh at you because they only see a loser that wouldn't even know how to talk to them. Your family probably thinks your a loser too, since you never took a girl out on a date. Whats worse is how your treat videogames. You claim to be a hardcore gamer yet you fail to see the beauty in games like this one. One day you will be banned from here for good, and on that day, I will buy a round of beers for everyone.

We have an idea of how amazing it will be because Team ICO has created two gaming masterpieces that weave together two different play styles. We can only assume, based on previous attempts, that this game will also be absolutely incredible.

Your comment causes me to believe you have not yet played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus. You cannot refer to yourself as a gamer until you experience these titles.

Loving this game doesn't make one a Sony fanboy, but rather a fanboy of great games.

The folks at Free Radical made goldeneye and timesplitters, and then made Haze. Enough said.

Just because Im not blinded by a music-filled trailer doesnt mean I havent played their games, and doesnt mean Im not a gamer. The mere fact that I am posting on Joystiq completly defeats the latter arugment.

Loving this game when this is the only piece of information about it out does, in fact, make you a fanboy of this company. Sorry.

The arguments being made are vs a small minority of people who are commenting with Best Game Ever or I love this game...which understandably its a little soon to make those statements. Most people are expressing excitement with what they have seen so far. I am beyond understanding why this is infuriating some to this extent as I would imagine this is a typical reaction...? To use an example for another form of media, if a band or director with a past history of producing excellent work announced a future project, wouldn't it make sense for their fans to be justifiably excited?

The difference is, Haze looked like trash since day one. It never looked like an FRD game. It was missing the charm and the stylized graphics FRD had become known for. The Last Guardian looks like a Team ICO game. The heart and soul is there, and that is reason enough to look at this game and become very, very excited.

Go play, ICO or Shadow of the Collosus. Just do it and you will understand us. There is just no way to explain with words why we love this game so much even if only one trailer.

@And to everyone that says the graphics sucks: Go and play your graphical masterpiece... how was it called? Oh yes Halo 3. Don't get me wrong I like Halo 3 but I have never seen someone complaining about Halo's graphics.

The hate is strong in this thread.

Listen, people have opinions alright? I thought Ico was boring as hell, but loved SotC. I'm worried about this game, because it could be pretty much anything (although probably based on puzzle platforming). The trailer is cool and all but I don't get why the media is gushing over it like it's the second coming of Christ. I know it's an anticipated game, but so are a bunch of other games, and the media isn't all O MY GOD LOVE LOVE THAT WAS AWESOME I CAME AND SHAT BRICKS when they have trailers containing no gameplay released.

Seems to me like people just love the trailer because of the team behind it, which is pretty shallow if you ask me. Once again, it's fine to get excited, especially if you're a fan, but the whole I SHAT BRICKS AND CAME HOLY SHIIIIIIIIT spiel is going a little too far.

I'm excited for this game first and foremost because of the interesting mysteries associated with the Ico/SOTC universe at this point. That I loved Ico and SOTC is just icing on the cake for me. I need to know more about what the hell happened in the days before the forbidden land was the forbidden land, and I hope that The Last Guardian will help shed some light on that.

I can tell that the graphics are going to be exceptional, but without even seeing the trailer, I'd have known that the story will be phenominal. While Team Ico's games might have had minor technical quibbles such as a flighty camera, they have consistently had amazing and heart wrenching stories. Having to kill the colossi despite knowing it was morally wrong was one of the most emotional aspects of any game I've ever played. Don't get me started on the ending of Ico. If The Last Guardian can come anywhere near that level, it will become the third masterpiece from Team Ico.

I don't really understand why R is getting voted down in some of his posts. Technically he's correct, it's just a gameplay trailer, you don't know ANYTHING about the game and it could effectively be that one gameplay video, and then it goes to ps1 graphics and says game over.

Even making comments about this game looks boring seem fine as long as he's been honest and not just being a fanboy. I mean the game looks intriguing so far (why is there a freaking kitty dragon? :P), but for me it could go either way depending on the quality of the game. Some people might find it boring, it's not a big deal.

That being said, people like the Lion are just being idiots who are fanboys. :\

@Dan-

If you like the music in the trailer, it's Carter Burwell's main title theme from Miller's Crossing (which is a pretty great movie in its own right), and will therefore probably not be in the final game (since the same composer - whose name escapes me - did both of Team ICO's other games, I assume he will do this one, too. And it will be excellent.)

Life with Playstation should be fucking ashamed of themselves for leaking the old version a week before E3.
Imagine how much of a pleasant surprise we would all have had. Waiting years to see their next project and we get the full finished trailer at E3.

Instead some little piss-ant website fucks it up for everyone in the hope for page hits. I hope they're blacklisted forever.
