So there it goes your "remove the UMD drive to save battery power" theory...

It's not a theory, it works. Sony just decided to use a smaller battery than before

True, but in the end, the battery life remains the same. Nothing's been improved. Only this time around you're screwed if you want to swap it out.

Sony just thinks if you have less time to play on the move, you'll seee more bluray movies, and maybe even bluray games.

False. The size and weight of the device has been shrinked.

This was the final nail the coffin. I caved and bought a PSP-3000 this week for cheap ($144 NIB), picked up a PSP 2200mAh battery for a few bucks, and bought a 32GB memory stick. Now i'm just waiting for the memory to come in the mail tomorrow, then i'll be set.

As far as i'm concerned, I bought a PSP that has a bigger screen, that lasts longer and has more memory than the PSP Go for as much as it would cost before tax.

Another bad piece of news. Although I gotta say Sony should stick with what is working, we don't want exploding PSP Go units.

"What's working" in the current model PSP would give the Go a longer battery life, so they're changing something for the worse for some reason.

And of course older batteries are incompatible and you'll have to purchase another battery, none of the accessories from previous PSPs are compatible with this. Sony really doesn't want existing PSP owners to upgrade to this and I doubt those new to the PSP would pick up the Go model but maybe I'm wrong.

Why would you even need to buy a new battery? when you get one in box,
And if yours damages and u need a new one, you would have to do the same thing as the old one,
buy a new 1

Also, isn't the battery internal, so you'll have to open the PSP Go, to exchange it, and maybe void the warranty? Well, it seems like that to me from the images of the device, but I'm not sure.

I suppose if you really dig the lighter weight and size of the PSP Go, maybe the Bluetooth will serve some use (wireless headphones, use cellphone for internet, etc).

That's all I can think of.

+1 Just another reason why I won't get a GO... You would think that it would've had a longer battery life and thus showing it's a more "portable" handheld. But nopee..

I believe that it's simply aimed as a audio/video player first, game machine second. The video service is already there for the PSP. Now they just have to get the music service up and running before it releases in Oct.

The reason for buying one of these is very similar to the reasons for buying any PSP. This one however is smaller, not unlike a gameboy pocket vs a gameboy.

Soooo since I already have a psp, the only motivation to plop down a ridiculous $250 for this is because it's smaller?

I think I'll pass. My custom slim can already store digital versions of my games with a 16gb card. I don't think I've ever seen a more pointless peice of hardware than the Go.

The list has been fading fast for me, tmac. I love my 2000 and I've already got a decent stack of games / extended battery / TV cable / memory sticks. Since I already have a dedicated MP3 player, I don't see the value in literally starting over with the Go.

With 4GB memory sticks available for $15 or less if you look around, the 16GB internal storage is almost a non-issue.

But hey, it's small.

Figured i'd get downvoted lol, people are complaining about Jack**** if you dont buy it DONT BUY IT, go on downvote me to death again cause it hurts my virtual feelings lol

And i agree with you requiered im gonna love having all my games at my disposal, just being out somwhere (i bring my psp alot of places) and not having to bring like 5-10 UMDs with me, ill have them all in my Go.

The way i see it, depends how u see it, the Go is for some people, the 3000 is for others but no point commenting on how bad it is cause it isnt changing a thing.

Good day my fellow joystiq readers, its been a nice life and you can now downvote my life away :)

Except for the price of the PSP Go, current PSP owners can purchase a 16gb memory stick and download games to it. I believe you can get a current PSP 3000 and 16gb memory stick for the same price or even less than the PSP Go and also be able to play UMD games on it if needed and use current accessories for it.

Unless you really want the smaller more pocketable size of the Go. I had thought the Go would hopefully have noticeably better battery life than the current PSPs but that went out the window.

Why shouldn't I be annoyed by these stupid decisions? If they were doing it right, I'd be able to buy a PSP that does what I want it to do at a reasonable price. The Go is a good idea being really poorly executed, and yes, it does affect me, because now I'll probably never get to have a decent PSP Go.

Price arguments, maybe but everything else, just seems like sheep following joystiqs opinion.

@Orex

People like you are why companies like Sony can still make a profit while making stupid decisions.

I mean Sony thinks they can take on the iPod touch? What the hell are they thinking? : 'Oh, looks like everything taking on the iPod, including our walkman line, is failing. But the PSP is totally a premier .mp3 player! It will succeed where every. other. device. has. been. destroyed.'

PSP is a handheld gaming console! Sony should be setting their sights on the DS!

You know what, fuck it. Its all Apple's fault. if it wasn't for their push at casual gamers, there would be no dumbass DSi or rip-off PSP go. I hate you Apple, everything wrong with the universe starts and ends with you. If you want to get into the gaming market, start by making your computers support D3D.

Anyways, I WAS going to buy a PSP this summer, now I'm not. I'm just glad this came out when it did, otherwise I might have bought *shudders* a SONY product. X_X

Listening to the podcast now, the guys are talking about the PSPGO being a ripoff.

So, even though it has no moving parts, it will have no advantage of battery life and yet they want me to pay more for a failing console. Sony, you're retarded.

why the fuck does everyone call the psp a failing console, for its install base its actually doing incredibly good, and if anything its failing cuz of dicks like you who wont buy it cuz you think its failing.

your circular fucking logic towards the psp install base is a fail if anything.

look at the number's id consider the psp a HUGE success... if it's failing so bad, why is it still around 5 years later.

It's still around because Sony is still pushing it with stupid crap like the PSP GO.

And the reason that it's a "failing" console is because it WAS failing, and now they can't change the public perception, which makes it as good as failing.

Heres some stats for you right here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Console_wars#Worldwide_sales_figures_7

wikipedos not the best source, but fuck you find a better one then.

FIRST HANDHELD WAR
Worldwide sales figures

1. Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color combined – 118.69 million
2. Sega Game Gear – 11 million

CURRENT HANDHELD WAR
Worldwide sales figures

1. Nintendo DS – 101.78 million, as of 31 March 2009 (all DS Models)
2. PlayStation Portable – 41 million, as of 20 August 2008

not bad at all with the first handheld war the origanal gameboy almost sold 12 times as much as the gamegear.

this time around the DS is only selling around 2 times as much as the psp.

how in the fuck is the psp a failure of a console again?
