*Sony shows off the bumerang controller*

*EVERYONE fuckin tearsit apart, without ANYONE outside the industry having touched it*

*sony replaces it with the six axis*

THEN

*sony reveals the psp*

*people HATE umd's, dont buy the movies, and generally think that the whole umd thing is STUPID*

*sony shows off the PSP go*

*EVERYONE TEARS IT THE FUCK APART*

"but where's the umd drive" you ask, and to that i say

THE PSP GO, IS NOT THE FUCKING PSP2, BECAUSE THERE IS NO PSP2 (there sould have been, this is part of why people are pissed) THEY ARE STOPPING PRODUCTIONS ON THE UMD FORMAT (prove me wrong asshole), AND THEY ARE NOT DISCONTINUING EXISTING PSP MODELS (they are just going to stop manufacturing them and hope the ones in stores will eventually sell out if they don't tell anybody (JUST LIKE THEY'RE DOING WITH THE FAT PS3!))*

No point in telling them joseph, they wont listen,The only post in the direction joystiq is, sheep, they dont see the whole point of the Go for some reason, they would rather sit there and complain like its gonna change a damb thing.

One minuet everyone complains about the UMD format then when they remove it they complain still, they can never be happy unless its got nintendo on the top.

WOW, I was a pretty decent supporter of this thing and the supposedly improved battery life was on of like the top 3 reasons I had to support it. With that gone, the system has lost A LOT of this worth.

SONY, how the hell can you manage to take away the UMD drive and give it a smaller screen, and yet give it the same battery life AND make it $80 more expensive than the psp-3000? Seriously. I know it's smaller but try to make some NON-superficial changes to justify the price, will you?

So basically there really isn't much reason to get a PspGo over a PSP 3000. The PSP 3000 can do everything the GO can, except for bluetooth support. The GO's design has a love it or hate it kind of feel, while PSP 3000 is just full of sexy. Although some may see the removal of the UMD drive as a plus, it doesn't really add much of a benefit, battery life is still the same. Digital game releases on PSN will be supported across all psp models, not only on the GO, so if you don't wanna use UMDs, just download your games. There's also Sony stupid decision to make the Psp Go incompatible with current PSP accessories, adding to the already overpriced handheld. So the only real benefit of the Go is bluetooth, and if we really wanna get technical, maybe longevity of the system, since UMD drives might break over time.

I understand Sony is trying to regain some of their losses, but that price isn't worth it for what the PSP GO provides.

You are making a lot of presumptions. We still do not know all that there is to know about the Go. It might have a lot more overall power including a better web browser and it might have a more contemporary flash player. So far all we have heard is that it will have game sleep where you can suspend gameplay allowing utilization of other functions in the xmb (you may be able to visit a game faq/walkthrough for example or listen to some music without quitting a game) and the addition of a clock and calendar application that work when it is closed and open.

Let's not forget that you can not easily change out the battery in the PSP Go. In other words, it's locked in like the Dual Shock, or the iPhone. This is one of my pet peas for portable devices. The battery life for me is fine, but not being able to change out the battery, not a good thing.

that's pathetic. no increase in battery life and they still expect consumers to pay an $80 premium? for what? a smaller screen?

im not even sure the "go" would be worth it even after a price drop.

With the way things are going, it seems that all we need now is the announcement that the PSP go comes with a rootkit and will infect anything that is connected to it via USB. =P

@Joseph

"the PSP will last for prolly a good solid week in sleep mode ACTUAL SLEEP MODE"

Yeah that's what I look for in portable gaming. I'll drop $200-250 so I can keep the little bastard in sleep mode for weeks at a time.

Is the PSPgo a suicide attempt from Sony? It was bad enough that it can't do as much as a PSP 2000/3000 and is more expensive. But now it can't do as much, is more expensive AND the battery life isn't longer??? Who will pay that much more for a product that not only doesn't give you more features and longer battery life but also limits you to downloads only, taking away the right to choose between physical and digital distribution?

Not sure why ppl are fussing about the GO. It's not for users who already own a PSP. It's for news users who're considering a new portable device. Side to side with the iPod Touch, the PSP could make a good competitor. The price is in the same range of that of the iPod Touch. Although for users with an older PSP model the GO seems like a rip-off being a 5-year-old technology minus the UMD drive, new users will not notice this, because the GO will look like a totally new product to them. A smaller, sleeker, all-digital product will appeal to newcomers, and I foresee considerable success for the GO although I don't personally like it.

When I first heard about the PSP Go, I was thinking I would buy one.
Every detail I've heard about it since then just makes it seem useless.

To me, a portable device is worthless unless it is in my pocket all the time. I'm always going to have a cell phone on me at this point, so there's no way I'm carrying a phone AND a game machine.

If the PSP is ever turned into a great phone and internet device, I'm buying.
They can keep the existing PSP without a phone, just like there is an iphone and ipod touch.

Honestly in my opinion I would have to fully agree

The only thing that could save the PSPGo from complete fail would have been it also being a decent cellphone as well as playing PSP software...... Then you probably could have gotten people to overlook all its shortcomings and bought on to the well it fills an additional nitch in my day to day life band wagon.

Toss in built in GPS and Camera and your freaking golden and they probably could have charged $350 and gotten away with it. But alas they decided to go with the fewer redeemable* features/higher price...... I have no clue what their hardware devs were thinking

*blue tooth does not a redeemable feature make, at least not as it stands now.....

Please don't take that comment to suggest I would be remotely interested in a PSP cellphone myself, more like it would be the only thing that would give the GO some sort of an angle.

Yeah, it's not that I don't like the PSP as it is. I just know that I wouldn't buy something that I would not end up carrying with me at all times.

Add a cell phone to the PSP (meaning all the modern smart phone bells and whistles, camera, email, web browser etc..) and I'm in!!

Thanks for the replies.

I think the reason why it's expensive is because of the onboard memory. I currently have a 16gb on my 2000 and I could add another microSDCH on top of that to make it 32gb. So yeah, I don't think I'll ever buy a Go with that price. Also, it doesn't really matter to me that it's lighter. I can handle the slim just fine.

Yeah but people seem to forget that companies like sony buy this memory at massive volume discounts .... every where I look people are comparing it to retail priced cards and I will almost guarantee sony is paying a fraction of that on the actual chips.

not to mention half the hype behind getting rid of the UMD drives was it would dramatically increase the battery life .... but then they go and use a smaller battery ..... so you get equivalent battery life .....

When it all boils down your paying $80 more for a sliding form factor with a smaller screen that is incompatible with all your existing peripherals if you have them, download only games yay DRM and if you have UMDs the best you can hope sony will let you trade them in eventually, which is a waste in opinion but I still like physical medium ... but hey it comes with bluetooth

I still have the oringal psp from when it first came out. i have a nice stack of games for it and a 4 gig mem card. im perfectly content with the device. i mostly play the psp for the ports because im not always home and dont have acess to a ps2. (darkstalkers, accent core etc) i dont like the pps go for the simple reason, there's nothing wrong with my old one.

it is smaller yes. but it's also got it's screen on the outside unlike the ds. so you can scratch it. which means you'd get either some kinda film (which i dont bother with) or a case which would increase it's size making it not as compact.

if say my psp breaks i might consider it. if it's aimed for an audio audience it's abit late with the zune, ipod and what not that lmost everyone has these days. and yes it's my own personal opinion on the subject im not flaming (gasp) nor promoting it.
it's a nice device and all but my old one works just fine.
