Considering the game's coming from the same studio that developed Frontlines: Fuel of War, you can appreciate that we're a bit trepidacious when approaching another FPS in Homefront. Still, it remains to be seen whether or not Kaos Studios can pull out the big, anti-occupational guns this time around, so we're remaining cautiously hopeful for Homefront.
Homefront reveal trailer not as totally rad as Red Dawn

I was expecting something a little more silly from a game based off of Red Dawn.

Well Kaos Studios is making the game. I'm sure it will be a cheesy game just like how Red Dawn was a cheesy movie.

Actually the trailer doesn't come close to doing the game justice. At E3 we walked past the booth and the trailer was *yawn* absolutely boring. Then we went into the private screening and were shocked. It didn't seem close to being the same game. It was actually quite good. I asked them why they were not showing some of this openly and they stated they wanted to sit on this until the right time. The MP portion is already very tight and playable while the SP and possible co-op is getting heavy work. They are looking at late 2010.

It amazes me that people now think Red Dawn is 'cheesy'. Guess that's what happens when you grow up without the threat of spreading Communism and global nuclear war, and with a relativist education system insisting that the US is never the good guy.

@Douche, are you sure Red Dawn is only considered cheesy and terrible only now? I feel like most film critics probably reacted to it negatively as well.

I hope there is a cool Red Dawn like opening, like starting in the mountains with limited ammo.

ugh, I always hated that about FPS, always just seemed like a cop out for the developers. The only time it worked for me was HL, and that was because I was always addressed as Gordon, and Gordon had a face and a past and a history, unlike Soap McTavish, who has absolutely no characterization at all. Oh and just to avoid confusion and flames, i didnt mean it was the only FPS story that worked for me, just the only one where they have a blank player character

I understand people like them and they do make money, I just hate that camera view and all those games feel the same. Third person is much more versatile, you have overhead views, behind the shoulder, head, etc. etc. Each third person game has it's own look and feel (yes a lot are similar but not nearly as bad as FPS view)

I can't stand 3rd person shooters at all. I feel like I'm watching a movie, not playing a game. I don't get into a 3rd person shooter in the least. The only thing 3rd person shooters have is a wider range of view (which I find too unrealistic to a real life situation). And that's not worth all things it doesn't have.
3rd person is for adventure games, not shooters.

What?
The liberators technically are the terrorists in this game.

Wrong. In this frame, the liberators would be 'insurgents' or 'freedom fighters'. Since you've been indoctrinated by the idiot media I'm not surprised that you don't know the difference. But 'terrorists' are the ones whose only goal is terror, and who attack non-military targets and/or routinely put innocent civilians in harm's way. Freedom fighters and insurgents generally have the goal of 'liberating' a state to govern itself, and while they use guerilla tactics they don't blow up and behead innocents.

I'd argue that what you say is indeed true, but it is certainly the romanticized view of it. Also, the media hasn't blinded me to anything. In this game, you would be liberators, yes, but you would be considered terrorists. Why? Because someone else controls America and would undoubtedly refer to you as such.
There's no way in hell a military force that is in control would refer to combatants as "liberators." They would be branded terrorists. That's propaganda; that's the way the world works. I'm just saying that, essentially, those sides are one in the same (the connotation of the words is left for you to decide).
But, hey it's cool, I don't mind your condescending attitude. It is the internet after all, and every liberator EVER is pretty much Robin Hood. SO IT'S ALL GOOD.

How was that not as good as Red Dawn? That was pretty bad ass. it had a real Call of Duty 4 feel to it. But that's not something I mind really. And it's a FPS, they can only get so far apart from each other before it turns into crap that people won't buy.

Hmm... Maybe it's cause i'm Canadian, but the story doesn't seem very special to me :P
Neither does the gameplay (Rar you shoot stuff!) or the aesthetic (Rar it's grey!) for that matter.
Could still be good. But this certainly isn't on my radar yet.

Hey, maybe they can make a Canadian version where you 'peacekeep' by sitting just out of of the battle of theater, watching local thugs murder civilians, and occasionally intervening for some forced sex?

I was just thinking a game where Canada invades America, or vice versa, would be pretty sweet.

Didn't they say the leader's name was something like Connor Reesin?... Calling themselves the resistance with a leader clearly named to bring thoughts of Terminator (John Connor, Kyle Reese) doesn't make this any cooler.

I want more war games like Valkyria Chronicles (well developed characters, emphasis on tactics). But all we get are generic, shoot-at-everything-that-moves, FPSs with stories and character bios that were probably written on a napkin the lunch before pitching the game.

Me too. I just got Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway because I was intrigued by the stronger focus on story than most FPS games. Here's hoping it pans out..

The premise of this game is nothing short of ludicrous. How the heck would the North Koreans ever invade the United States when they can't even take back Seoul?

Hmm, I really like the idea, Operation Anchorage was actually my favorite Fallout DLC for the sheer amounts of silly patriotism and commie fighting, but North Korea? Come on, they might have a nuclear arsenal, and unless the story is that they used some of it, they possess nowhere near the military machine or man power to occupy us, shit, they'd probably never even make a landing

This trailer looks interesting. Hopefully the damage to the buildings is not entirely a scripted event.
This game would be much more realistic with China as the enemy, instead of the perenially weak North Korea. How they make up the population/technology/political will gap to do this seems, beyond a doubt, interesting. The story better explain that one.
This does also remind me a bit of the David Jaffe PSP game, except his was from the eyes of a person who was from that country (I believe). I hope this turns out better than Frontlines.

I meant that North Korea (they are the ones who attack in this game, right?) could call themselves liberators and they would claim they liberated America from an evil government that started wars all over the world or whatever...
Yes, the Resistance wouldn't kill civilians and they wouldn't really be terrorists... but they would be called that by the new government controlled media.
