Neversoft would like to add turntable support to Guitar Hero
In fact, both the DJ Hero team and Neversoft (developers of the Guitar Hero franchise) seem open to the idea of cross-game instrument implementation (say that three times fast). GH director Brian Bright told Eurogamer, "We would love to integrate in the future," speaking to the cross-franchise possibilities with each game's respective peripheral. So if we can use a turntable, have a group of folks on various instruments, and get someone spitting hot fire into a mic, what's the point of Def Jam Rapstar again?

tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 12th 2009 9:30PM
Why not? It's not like they can ruin the franchise anymore than they have already. Might as well go for broke.
copa @ Jun 12th 2009 9:46PM
"It's not like they can ruin the franchise anymore than they have already."
You lack imagination. They haven't even started talking about integrating the skateboard controller and the light gun yet.
HairyBalls @ Jun 12th 2009 9:52PM
You could always play Guitar and Skateboard at the same time.

Breaking News: Activision Developing Jerkoff Hero
comes with a condom for 199.99
Young_Nastyman @ Jun 14th 2009 12:30AM
@tmac
"Why not?"
Because they JUST added 4 of each instrument playability with 5, they have to wait for Guitar Hero 6, or more likely, Guitar Hero: Soulja Boy or else they'll break their streak of one new feature per year with a few minor re-designs here and there
Young_Nastyman @ Jun 14th 2009 12:31AM
forgot the "!!!" at the end

That'd would be cool for, uhm... Linkin PArk songs I guess? I dunno.

It's as if Activision thinks that adding superfluous features to an already inferior experience validates it somehow.
ChristmasBeard @ Jun 12th 2009 9:52PM
I wish they would go back to making games that are exclusively guitar.
Reinard @ Jun 12th 2009 9:52PM

Sly [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 12th 2009 10:03PM
seems like a nice thing to do, why complain?
VaultICEE @ Jun 12th 2009 10:17PM
Neversoft should just stop trying to appeal to most core gamers. We all know Guitar Hero gets probably a majority of its sales from causals/kids, so why bother?
FairlyOddChelle @ Jun 12th 2009 10:19PM
Oh geez, this would be such an idiotic idea! Stop adding stuff that clearly doesn't belong. I've thought this since Guitar Hero: World Tour was first announced. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game, but the very fact that it's called "Guitar Hero" should mean that it sticks to the basics and only uses guitar controllers. They should've just titled it differently.
Today I was talking to my mom about DJ Hero and how the guy at the Activision booth at E3 said something about it being the most anticipated game of next year (wow, what a boldly false statement). Then I ended up mentioning the GH drums and even my 50+ y/o mother asked me,
"Guitar Hero has drums?"
"Yeah"
"...But, it's called 'Guitar Hero.'"
Exactly, mom!

CH3BURASHKA @ Jun 12th 2009 11:08PM
They are honestly looking at forum posts and completely missing the irony with which people create said posts.
Mike @ Jun 12th 2009 11:33PM
More shitty plastic controllers to end up in a landfill.
mondody @ Jun 12th 2009 11:35PM
here's another idea, before they add the turntable for guitar hero, why don't they add support for rock band instruments for the wii
Mike @ Jun 12th 2009 11:38PM
One more thing: All i can say is I'm really satisfied with the general consensus of these comments that this rhythm/music genre is getting way out of hand. It's good to see that people still have limits.
Danny @ Jun 12th 2009 11:59PM
SHUT THE F*** up! Rock band really gayed out on Wii instruments, why gives a shit if you can't use your snow white instruments??
And seriously all you rock band players who hate GH, I read these articles to laugh at what you have to say. It's rediculous, your looking for things to complain about.
And honostly, there is no better game. They are different. If you want a huge music store to buy almost any song you want, Rock Band. If you want to play as real musicians like ozzy in stages that are actually bright enough to admire the visuals of the stage, Guitar Hero.
Quit your bitchin!
aristokrat @ Jun 13th 2009 1:39AM
Oh, thanks for setting me straight. All this time I've been comparing the two on gameplay, but I should've been comparing the filler background visuals. Of course, it seems so obvious...
Because playing as Ozzy is somehow different than playing as a trash can? The notes still look the same to me.
Danny @ Jun 13th 2009 8:15AM
Just wondering, does Rock Band have any ozzy DLC?
Jon D @ Jun 14th 2009 2:21AM
"If you want to play as real musicians like ozzy in stages that are actually bright enough to admire the visuals of the stage, Guitar Hero."
i take it you don't go to alot of concerts.
that and who cares? you're not really playing as him, he just shows up during his song.
and Guitar Hero DOES, in fact, suck. Even with World Tour the animations are stale and lifeless and nothing like anything you'd see at a gig. yea, it's nice to have a stage bright enough to see everything down to the wood grain in the floor you're standing on, but all of that doesn't really matter when you're staring at the notes blazing down the track at you or the fact that it's so obnoxious it makes DDR cabinets seem tame.
Danny @ Jun 14th 2009 8:24AM
It not asking for a completely bright stage, but make it bright enough to admire the graphics you can hardly see the crowd! And why in Beatles rock band do they all the sudden have real musicians?
BTW don't get me wrong, I love rock band. I would compare it's music store to iTunes it's so amazing. But you need to admit the characters look cartoonish.
Julian @ Jun 13th 2009 12:19AM
Of course they would.
Zack11190 @ Jun 13th 2009 1:31AM
Cool, I guess. I don't get why everyone here is getting all pissed off at Activision and Neversoft about it.
DIAJ @ Jun 13th 2009 2:05AM
"both the DJ Hero team and Neversoft (developers of the Guitar Hero franchise)"
Um... Neversoft didn't develop the GH franchise, Harmonix did.
sic @ Jun 13th 2009 4:58AM
Neversoft are the current developers behind Guitar Hero and have been since GH3. The article isn't saying that they came up with the idea... it's simply stating a fact.
TheManick @ Jun 13th 2009 2:13AM
I think we need a 'Will Ferrell: Cowbell Hero'.
Definitely needs more cowbell.
Ander Peevy @ Jun 13th 2009 4:46AM
they'll need to for guitar hero: linkin park
DIAJ @ Jun 13th 2009 5:02AM
The fact is incorrect. Therefore it is not a fact.
Neversoft bought the franchise, and have continued with it. The correct "fact" would be:
...and Neversoft (developers of the Guitar Hero, starting with Guitar Hero 3)...
ryanpaulmcgowan @ Jun 13th 2009 7:49AM
I understand what you're saying but it's wrong.
When you are a developer of a game, you are the current person developing the game.
What you mean to say is that Harmonix CREATED Guitar Hero. They aren't developing it anymore. Neversoft is.
Feba @ Jun 13th 2009 5:30AM
Ok, now someone name me a band that mixes turntables with guitars.
Now go back through that list, and name me a *good* band.
About the only reason I see to mix these are for some of the more 'out there' Beatles stuff, which they couldn't write before they stopped touring, because it would be simply impossible to perform live. But that's a Rock Band franchise anyway.
Come on guys, have some creativity. "Hey, what if I stole Beatmania and Guitarfreaks and then I put them in ONE GAME" is not creativity, it is stupidity. Want a creative game? Ok, simple enough, add in a storyline. Make it a battle to not just pass the songs, but to keep your band together. Keep your drummer from ODing, keep your bassist's girlfriend from tearing the group apart. If someone dies or leaves, or is unable to perform for whatever reason, they're replaced, and that changes the dynamic of the group, causing you to adjust how you try to keep everyone happy. If all of your bandmates leave, you can try to join another band, or get them to rejoin, or build yourself backup as Yourguy and the Replacements. If your character dies or quits music for whatever reason (see Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit for a good example of managing your own character like I mean), it's GAME OVER, Steel Battalion style. You keep a record of your band's progress, history, rise and fall, but there are no continues, you can't keep going. You have to just start a new band.
See, it's not hard to improve on the existing music game formula, or at least do something different, without being completely stupid. It took about two minutes of brain storming on "more realistic" to come up with the idea for an interactive and well fleshed out storyline. If you're getting paid to make this stuff, and you're sitting around thinking for days at a time, you sure as hell can do better.
Bearxor @ Jun 13th 2009 9:44AM
You know, that would work as a really simple adventure game.
Think Oregon Trail, but modern day traveling around in a bus on tour.
Schlagwerk @ Jun 13th 2009 10:00PM
Stopped reading after the mention of Beatmania/Guitar Freaks. It's not cool to rip on that stuff any more, didn't you get the memo?
Feba @ Jun 13th 2009 11:30PM
Schlagwerk: This is where you read the entire comment. I'm not disparaging them in the slightest. I'm disparaging the people who are ripping them off without adding anything except a better legal team.
austwannabe @ Jul 8th 2009 8:43PM
I can see it now:
The lead guys at Harmonix and for the Sims series walk out. "We would like to introduce the first Sims expansion pack.
The Sims 3: Rock Band!"
Vintsukka @ Jun 13th 2009 5:31AM
"While Activision is still keeping mum on whether or not the ability to use guitars in all tracks of the game (none the less vocals) will be shipping with DJ Hero..."
In this video a guy from FreeStyleGames says that 10 tracks in the game will support guitar.

Sorry, forgot the link. Here it is: http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6211670/
Tegolin @ Jun 13th 2009 9:15AM
I think in 2 years, Guitar Hero wouldn't have a visible stage. Just 6 charts filling up the entire screen.
Either that happens, or people would stop buying the games.
PlasticGuitarRockGod @ Jun 14th 2009 1:27PM
DJ Hero plus drum support = DJ Hero: TRV$DJAM
DJ Hero plus Guitar support = Prodigy track pack.
Change your pitch up, smack your bitch up!
/I shouldn't be giving Activision any ideas..
Big @ Jun 14th 2009 2:32PM
Guitar Hero Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park here we come.
BrokenTriforce @ Jun 15th 2009 1:31AM
Not like I'm buying the turntable controller or the dj game anyway.
You gotta remember that if you don't wanna play it then don't buy it. If you think the idea is lame (like I do) then send the company the RIGHT message by NOT wasting your (or parents' as the case may be) hard-earned money on complete bullshit like this.
And everybody who is excited for Linkin Park tracks will probably get them, because the trend I've seen in newer GH games is weak songs by lame artists... Linking Park being a prime example of existing content. I got a 99% Expert on that one song in GHWT when I was drunk as hell.
kip @ Jun 16th 2009 8:54AM
I know this post is 3 days old now, not sure if anyone will read this... according to the Game Informer preview of the game, there will only be 10 tracks supporting the guitar, and the microphone will be supported in all of them, but there won't be any lyrics going across the screen or (presumably) any kind of passing/failing on the microphone. So I guess the microphone is just for when you want to be louder.
