According to the latest NPD figures, the Wii has done more than introduce gaming to your grandma, as the console has managed to reach the 20 million mark in just 31 months on the market, MCV reports. That makes it the fastest-selling console in US history.
Following Nintendo's announcements for New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Fit Plus, we wonder if the console will ever run out of steam. Considering how well it continues to sell in this region, despite the poor economy, we doubt it will any time soon.

I personally think it's great to live an environment where I can go over to soooo many friend's of differenty age/class/ethnicity/gender etc. groups and play some Wii Sports or Mario Kart or Smash Bros. or Resident Evil UC or HotD: OK or Bomberman or Punch Out. Honestly, in that regard it reminds me of the NES era.
I also don't think it's bad that Wii fit has gotten so many people to be more health, fitness, and balance conscious.
I think Nintendo has delivered lots of unique yet accessible games with their new control interface (even if it's not always used), while still maintaining traditional control options where it makes sense too. I enjoy "waggle" when it's properly implemented, but I also think the Wii Remote brought a lot to the table with it's IR sensors. seriously, it doesn't sound funny like "waggle" but gaming blogs tend to overlook it's accuracy as one of the Wii's big contributions.
Finally, as a big fan of both Nintendo's internal studios from EAD toe R&D 1 and 2, to Intelligent Systems, Hal, etc. to Eastern developers and/or smaller third parties like Hudson, Sega, Capcom, Platinum Games, XSeed, Ignition, Vanillaware, Treasure, Way Forward, 2D Boy and High Voltage Software, I'm happy to see a stable of unique games get published that probably wouldn't have had a chance on the 360 and PS3.
Hopefully a taste for these unique titles will be fostered in these 20-million Wii owning households in the US and 30+ million more around the world, so that we can continue to see such a diverse gaming arena.

Well said. I've always thought the Wii did a great job of taking what was great about gaming in the NES era and bringing it to the modern age with the Wii remote. Turn it sideways, it's an NES controller; or you can attach a MotionPlus and it adds an entirely new dimension. I agree that the IR is overlooked as well (it definitely deserves more RTS/Sim-esque games). It's easy to pick up and play, but there are also experiences with a lot of depth, and that's part of its genius.
The complaints about Nintendo not caring about core gamers is nothing new, they seem to take heat every generation, but somehow they manage to satisfy everyone in the end. There are still plenty of games on the horizon, and it only takes a quality game like Mario Galaxy 2, or potentially Other M, to make gamers realize what makes Nintendo great. I think we'll look back and realize that the Wii provided the most well-rounded and enjoyable experience for everyone.

The Only thing that will slow down the Wii's steam will be the Wii2. Nothing else can do it at this point in the Console Generation.

Sony can't afford a price cut. They lost $4 billion in cash last year and only have $6 billion on hand, just to give you an idea of when to expect a price cut.

Congrats! Who would've thought they'd be in the position after the Gamecube in the last generation? Well played Nintendo. I'll see you in hell.

Bound to happen at some point
Doubt Wii Fit Plus is going to move any consoles. By its very nature its only an expansion, so why would that be the tipping point for someone who wasn't convinced by Wii Fit?

Because it looks like it's going to solve a lot of Wii Fit's biggest flaws?
