Pachter apologizes for comments about PSP Go's rip-off price
Michael Pachter has stated he "sincerely" regrets commenting that Sony is ripping off consumers with the PSP Go's $250 price point. In an interview with IndustryGamers, Pachter takes the opportunity at the end to say that he doesn't believe Sony is doing anything nefarious and has "the right to price its products at a point that they think is competitive." He states the company is pricing the handheld to be competitive with the iPod Touch and that the PSP Go "arguably has much more value than the Apple product."
Hmm, as much as we respect Present Pachter's opinion, Past Pachter was a little more on the ball with the consumer's perspective of the PSP Go's pricing. Past Pachter noted, "The $169 PSP-3000 is a profitable device -- the disc assembly, for a UMD, costs more than 16 gigs of flash does. So this new device doesn't cost them as much as the PSP-3000 and they jack the price up $80?" It seems Past Pachter was viewing the product through consumer eyes, while Present Pachter is in business mode and wearing the glasses of the Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.

I wish there was a way to throw tomatoes at someone over the internet
'Sony Pony' isn't funny
it will never be funny
or creative
or original
Sony Pony = same kind of shitty name as Nintendonalds, except at least Nintendonalds made a teensy bit of sense
Cosmo @ Jun 12th 2009 1:05PM
I'm afraid I do not see what is to be insulting about being a pony. Unicorns are cooler but ponies are alright too.
What can we call PC fanboys since I am currently one?

"What can we call PC fanboys since I am currently one?"
NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDS!
Roto13 @ Jun 12th 2009 1:10PM
Everyone knows the proper term is "Sony Cronies." "Sony Ponies" doesn't even make sense.

Eh, I always wanted to build a PC but finally got around to doing it this year and since I spent a lot of money on it, I'm gonna be a PC gamer for a bit.
Though seeing all the great games coming to 360 and PS3 the PC won't get makes me jealous. : )
ohyeahcola @ Jun 12th 2009 1:15PM
lol im a sony pony

I'm a NNEEEEERRRRRRRDDDDDDDDD and proud.
Mr Khan @ Jun 12th 2009 1:25PM
Who the hell even came up with that? It makes no sense.
Cosmo @ Jun 12th 2009 1:41PM
I vote in favor of using "Sony Cronies" instead of "Sony Ponies", both rhyme and sound cute yet annoying but Cronies seems to work better no?
Vidikron @ Jun 12th 2009 1:48PM
I LOL'd the first time I saw "Sony Pony" used, but when I thought about it I wasn't sure if it was actually an insult or not. Seems fairly neutral.
Saria the Cat @ Jun 12th 2009 2:18PM
:( But I like ponies.
MrKlorox @ Jun 12th 2009 2:22PM
PC fanboys are known as PC Fundies or fundamentalists. Like the insane religious nuts who can't see any flaws in their own doctrine.

"Doesn't even make sense."
Retards are known to spout nonsense.
There is only one thing more annoying than a die hard fan boy, and make no mistake, when you preemptively attack fanboys before they even show up, that one thing is you.
D_Average @ Jun 12th 2009 3:42PM
I'm shocked no one has suggested "Sony Phonies"
I'm a Sony fan by the way, and I kind of like "Sony Pony". It makes no sense. Its absurd. Its perfect.
D_Average @ Jun 12th 2009 3:47PM
By the way, nothing will ever top "MicroSlaves". Catchy, and makes perfect sense.
Saikisen @ Jun 12th 2009 4:08PM

as trident reveals in his message.
Too bad they overused it to the point it was not even funny. Oh wait, never mind, it never was funny.
SaltyGary @ Jun 12th 2009 4:51PM
Is 3 times really being overused? The only reason it's funny because people are getting so riled up. Folks need to get a grip.
xbox420king @ Jun 12th 2009 5:10PM
What about Sony Phonies? You know like Michael Pachter and his phony "regret" for his statement.
squeehunter @ Jun 12th 2009 5:11PM
Reading "Sony Ponies" and "Nintendonalds" gave me a case of the giggles that caused me to have to leave the library at school because I didn't want to have a laughing attack infront of 50 people.
Has "Gaystation Pee" been said yet?
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jun 12th 2009 8:41PM
Yes, 3 times is overused. It wasn't really all that funny the first time.
sc00by_y00 @ Jun 12th 2009 11:45PM
What are you inferring when you say "Sony Ponies" ?
It is probably the lamest thing I have heard..
Maybe you should be called Micro Spastic ?
my little pony, skinny & bony made out plastic its a bit spastic.. I cant remember the rest of that crappy playground rhyme.. :)
Either way the psp Go is a rip off...
Premature ejaculation man @ Jun 13th 2009 1:54AM
Phoney Sony Homies ridin' their ponies
Sidebuster @ Jun 12th 2009 12:48PM
Sounds like Sony hired a goomba to twist his arm until he changed his opinion.
copa @ Jun 12th 2009 12:58PM
More likely, Pachter woke up and found a Pony head in his bed.
Peter Moore @ Jun 12th 2009 1:24PM
A Sony pony..?
...I'll stop.
Geist @ Jun 12th 2009 2:50PM
It was a Sony Crony Pony...with Balogna.

Don't apologize Mikey, for once you were actually right about something!
If anything, you should be congratulating yourself!
hunter2223 @ Jun 12th 2009 12:49PM
No doubt... this is the first thing he was right about in years.
dabamf @ Jun 12th 2009 1:16PM
Agreed...I can't think of one reason why I would want to replace my PSP-2000 with a "Go."
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jun 12th 2009 1:23PM
Yeah I have to say...Pachter has been one gigantic idiot over the years, but I'm glad he had the balls this time to use some of his saying power for something everyone knows.
...until he retracted his statement of course. Now he's no better than the rest IMO.
GewurztraminerX @ Jun 12th 2009 1:24PM
and ruin the record?
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jun 12th 2009 1:41PM
that's how i feel. he was right on the money with this original statements for once.....and then he goes and retracts them. crazy.
Saikisen @ Jun 12th 2009 4:13PM
Either way he was bound to get flamed and I'm being honest.
The PSP fanboys would flame him for calling the PSP GO overpriced even though hes right, it is actually overpriced. I mean who is actually going to buy a brand new PSP that has a smaller screen? Just get a PSP 3000 with a 16gb memory stick and you can play both UMDs and the psn games.
Other option was that people who agreed with his original statement would get dissapointed or some other mutual feeling for retracting that statement of his.
Saikisen @ Jun 12th 2009 4:17PM
and I forgot to add on, even though they did make a UMD converting program, I doubt all third party software will be supported until a good 2-3 years. If they do get it in a years length after psp go's launch, i take it all back.
Sly [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 12th 2009 4:25PM
i think the big selling point is the 16GB built in with upgradeable memory. add a 16GB M2 and you have 32GB... a 3000 with a 16GB can't get anymore...
Mike @ Jun 12th 2009 5:31PM
You can get up to 32GB in a PSP - 3000
ilean @ Jun 12th 2009 12:49PM

Hell, even a uniball has more guts then this pussy. Patcher should start a club with Konami after that 6DiF thing and call it the "Backpeddle and pussyout club"
C.A. @ Jun 12th 2009 5:19PM
"Backpeddle and pussyout club"
Ordeith @ Jun 12th 2009 12:50PM
Sony must have greased some palms.
Pachter is a poorly disguised industry shill for hire - CONFIRMED!
waves @ Jun 12th 2009 12:51PM
I don't have a PSP, but I've been waiting for this revision to get one. I think the Go looks really nice, and I would have jumped on it for $200. I figured it would launch as a more expensive device than the PSP 3000, but not that much more. Hopefully they can bring it down after the holidays.
Pumapayam @ Jun 12th 2009 12:55PM
I agree, it will sell for $199 soon.
With the pending refresh of the iPod Touches likely at an event in the fall, the 16 GB version will fall to $229, and maybe lower.
I am surprised that Sony is actually acknowledging that the iPod touch is even a contender now.
The must see the iPod Touch as a threat now.
Trev @ Jun 12th 2009 1:08PM
Since Sony announced an app store (sorry, can't find the link again), the comparison to an ipod touch or iphone makes sense. What I remember from it is a 100MB size limit, and that the software can be mini-game stuff or non-game applications as well.
