I think he blew the price out of proportion a little, that's all. The PSPgo is bound to cost close to the psp3000 to make, and I would think probably more. 16gb of internal is a nice chunk, plus the new opening design must cost more to manufacture. Add this on top of the idea that it always costs more when you first start a new model. Sony probably showed him some numbers and spanked him behind the shed. I'll stick to my psp3000, though.

What about the development costs? The research and design that went into the PSP Go are likely going to need to be accounted for by initial sales. That could account for some of that additional $80.

Why is he apologizing? You can get a Wii or Xbox 360 for that price. They ARE ripping off the consumer. Especially if it costs less to manufacture than the PSP 3000. What is this.. courtesy hour? Sony needs some price cuts if it wants stay competitive with everyone (not just hardcore). Besides.. iPhone is more practical unless PSP go has a phone too.

I agree with what past Pachter had to say about the PSP Go being a bit more expensive than the PSP 3000 and for what? A few more features that shouldn't really hinder the already existing price point of the PSP 3000 model? I agree that the handheld is expensive. What I don't agree with was Pachter's comments saying that Sony is ripping people off. If that's the case then Microsoft is ripping people off with the price point of their 360 hard drives. But both companies have the right to price their products however they see fit.

Sony is trying to make as much profit as possible within their games division of the company right now since they've lost millions on the PS3, which should of been reasonably managed in the first place, in my opinion. But that's neither here nor there right now. And what people need to do when attending E3, especially the gaming media, is take a deep breath and calm down. The hyperbole that spreads at the big 3 press conferences can be contagious but it shouldn't effect what is being reported, analyzed, what have you. i.e Alex Albrecht.

I think pressure made him change this but I think he was right. PSP Go doesnt offer anything truely new at a bloated price. They could have made money, The PSP is not a iPod but it could compete if done right especially if they price it for much less than the competition.

Exactly what kind of man is he? He made a great argument and is basically caving into Sony's demands. Say "hi" to Liksang when you hit the bottom Patcher.

Y'all, why do you keep posting about this jackass? He's pretty much never right, and his predictions aren't any more interesting than the crap that gets thrown around on GameFAQs forums, which interestingly is correct more often than Michael Pachter.

What is it that makes this guy so special he deserves his own posts? Is it because he calls himself an analyst?

Buck! buck! B'KAW!!

He hits the nail on the head, then loses his nerve. What a letdown. What did they do, send some thugs to accost him on the street? Threaten to sue?

A full-blown PSP plus a big memory stick cost less than the PSP Go, so you get all the functionality of the Go PLUS THE UMD DRIVE for less money. Which part of that *ripoff* is hard to understand?

At least the DSi included some upgrades such as a bigger (slightly) larger screen and two cameras. The PSPGo shrunk the screen :)

As for Pratcher - he had nothing to apologize for. He spoke his mind and, if anything, echoes the comments of the majority of people out there. The price is too expensive.

Whatever Mr. Pachter spoke of, he missed the most pertinent point of this "new" system.. that it is a Overpriced juiced up piece of shit! The incredible idiocy of the company to Still not put in another joystick and fail to make it a Touch screen is but two of many fails for that POC!

The cost should be equal to any iphone -when it first came out- to make it the true elite it Should of Been!

The already worn out statement made by many posters is so very apropos now...

EPIC F**KN' FAIL!!!

P-man aint no nerdy consumer with his first statement, he's just some soccer mom bitch whining about all them overpriced toys coming out now.

I would've prefered an option to get a unit with just a 1gb internal harddrive, but allow it to read highcapacity memory sticks for a much lower price. But that's just me.

Sony just sent Mr Pachter a PSP Go for free and promised him a brand new PS3 Slim later also for free. That is why Mr Pachter are so happy to apologize for his previous statement.

Yes, SONY IS RIPPING off consumers with PSP Go! at USD 249.00 and they will make a lot of $$$ with that price. The cost is about USD 125.00 only.

Sony, send me a PSP Go! for free and I will apologize too. And also the PS3 Slim later. Thanks.

I don't know why he regrets now. He has the right to give opinions to the consumer. Is like, ok, i'll buy the pspgo, then i evaluate and if i think was a waste of money i'll write about it.

And indeed, i think the price and the pspgo sucks. You can get right now better thing for a psp3000 for less.
