Atlus continues to package some of the coolest goodies with its games. The upcoming PSP version of Persona, Atlus' flagship RPG series, will include a two-disc soundtrack set ... with every copy of the game. No, this isn't some elusive pre-order bonus that you can only get from Retailer X (which, by the way, would be an awesome store to go to).
In addition to the soundtrack CDs, the US release of Persona will be coming with a nifty extra that didn't make the original Japanese cut. "We are able to confirm to series fans that in addition to the all-new localization, the 'Snow Queen' quest, game content never before available in North America, will be included in this new release," an Atlus PR e-mail told us.
Expect Persona on September 22nd.

I wonder if you'll get the soundtrack if you download the game...or if the game will even be downloadable from PSN...?

I want to check this series out. Do the games have a continuing story (1-4), or are they not connected like Final Fantasy?

I figure they are doing this to snag some extra shelf space and free advertisement in store. I sure as hell will notice a box 3 times bigger then the rest of the games.

Great idea. It will make a fine offer for serious collectors. Video game soundtracks are epic wins, they are just really difficult to find where I live.

I was happy when I read Persona, then I saw it was the WORST Persona game in the series.

Aw, atlus, why do you always make me want to spend money? You're worse than Working Designs (R.I.P). But I love the collectables... Gah, ok. I got Prinny, one more for the psp shelf.

You do realize they're co-releasing UMDs with the digital releases for all new games right?

Do want. Can't wait. Glad it's on UMD. I know I'm one of the few and proud that still love UMD's, but I don't care. Since it's an Atlus game and probably going to be one of the last UMD based games on the PSP, I think the value will shoot up pretty quick. Couple that with the fact that it's a Persona game and you have a nice collector's item. Too bad digital games will never be as collectable as the hard copies. R.I.P. hard copies of games. I will miss you. BTW, thanks for the supporting the PSP, Atlus. You guys totally rock in my book. Also, thanks a souper bunch for Demon's Soul! I love y'all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't bury hard copies just yet. Music has been digitally distributed for years now and CDs and records are still getting released. And that won't change for a while. Anyone who thinks digital distribution will completely dominate the gaming market should think again. Think about the money they cash in with Limted or Collector's editions. Think about all those gamers who just prefer a hard copy (I'm such a guy myself). Hard copies will be around for years to come, perhaps even longer. I'm not even sure if they can ever be wiped out. Apple couldn't do it with music either.

I'm sure places like f.y.e. and Suncoast will thank you for reminding people that CDs still exist. CDs are going to make a good revival this year in the marketplace, i think. With new releases everywhere from people like Eminem, Pearl Jam, Offspring, etc...
