Half-Life 2 developer Valve Software is remaining unsurprisingly cagey in conversations about Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Speaking with G4, the company's managing director Gabe Newell said, "There are very good reasons why we're not talking about Episode 3, which I can't talk about yet."
When pressed on the possibility of hearing more about the game by the end of 2009, Newell downright dismisses the question and, instead, chooses to speak about the "rhythm" the team working on Episode 3 is developing. Does that mean Valve's working on the long-awaited rhythm/music component to Half-Life 2? We can only dream.

I bet he's sorry he doesn't have the hunky, model good looks of you guys. The millions of dollars he sleeps on top of probably helps dry his tears though.

i have a ps3 and i would not play hl2 episode 3 on the console. it came out on pc and it must be played on pc. i cant be bothered how long it takes for newell to release hl2. The longer it takes to develop it the better it should become.

Gabe newell needs to lose some weight. i wouldn't want him to get a heart attack when he's young, who'll produce all those awesome games?

I think they need to hurry up with 3, after all, the whole reason you episodic games is to eliminate the time between installments. Clearly Gabe didn't get the memo

The memo is probably under that box of donuts that's been on his food table. I would call it a desk, but since there is probably more food on it than paperwork, it is hereby called a food table.

No he got the memo. He just got it mixed up with the other memo about how soon you should release a sequel to L4D.

Valve abandoned that whole "episodic gaming reduces development time" rationale a long, long time ago. They have accepted that their role is to take a really, really long time to develop games that keep turning out awesome.
Portal contained references to the Half-Life universe, and the end of Episode 2 contained references to the Portal universe. I expect that Episode 3 is going to be where the two games converge.
I was dying for an Episode 3 announcement at E3. But they can take as long as they want to get this one right, they've earned that right. Gabe can gain another 500 pounds as long as he keeps publishing the righteous stuff.

Clearly you didn't get the memo about Valve acknowledging that the small gap plan between episodes simply wasn't going to work because every episode got bigger and more ambitious.

I'll be shocked if they actually come up with a new engine. Although Epic tends to rehash their games a bit, at least they make improvements to their engine other than experimenting with cel-shaded graphics or putting zombies in a game and pretending it's a new genre.

I don't care for a new engine. The games are great fun. I want to finish the story. I want to know what happened with the girlfriend Alex, that I've never spoken a word to.

You have no idea how much has been added to the Source engine since its release, do you? Ever wonder why Episode 2 looked so much better than the original?

Cheese, I'll tell you a tale, you do not like valve one bit. I am not trying to get in an arguement with you, but vale is in my opinion a great gaming company and they have consistantly made great games and have been really close with the gaming community that supports it. You are entitled to your opinion and I repect it.

I like and play the games Valve makes. I just don't care for devs who don't think before they speak. It's kind of like the band Oasis. I like the music, but the artists just come off as pricks.
I've got all the HL games, including Orange Box for PS3, L4D on 360. I even have the old school retail box that HL1 came in. I built a new PC just so I could run Halflife 2.

I don't disagree Giroro, and I know TF2 is not cel-shaded, but for lack of a better term, it is kind of the style they went for. Besides, I could have been talking about any other developer like the ones behind Prince of Persia (who did do cel-shading) or Treyarch, who decided to throw zombies into a WW2 game. Re-read my posting.

When he talks about the rhythm that the team is developing with the HL2 episodes, he's referring to the classic rhythm of a half-note then a few billion rests.

It's tough love. Nobody wants this "genius" to die before HL ep 3 gets made right? Besides it's hell of a lot more love than he's given the PS3, but what do you expect from someone that worked for MS for 13+ years?

He isn't going to die anytime soon (unless he gets hit by a car or something). That's just some scare tactic you learned from people who want to control the way you live.

I would look at his eating habits, not really his weight. I had a friend who ate nothing but sugary sweets (and alcohol) all day long. Of course he had an athletic body with negative body fat and muscles everywhere. I asked him if eating like that is really a good idea.
Then he got in a car accident on St. Pattricks day and is now inbetween a vegtable and in a coma (he is aware but and can respond for the most part but isn't really there).
So I know there are various ways to die or be incapped other than "OMG Getting FATZ gonna amake you die real fast"

There's a big difference between doing games for a console exclusively and being an outright a$$hole about it like Gabe does. He has repeatedly trashed the PS3 as a waste of time to develop for. You don't hear that kind of talk from developers that make games on PS3 exclusively. Sucker Punch, for example, is just happy to be able to focus themselves on their craft, instead of getting too greedy and trying to make games on multiple platforms. Gabe couldn't take the high road and show some respect for Sony, who has done alot to broaden the horizon as far as gaming is concerned.
