Like a case of bad allergies, Metal Gear Solid 4's graphics left us rubbing our eyes. That said, when it comes to developing the recently unveiled Metal Gear Solid Rising, the latest sequel's eye candy is not nearly sweet enough.
According to Kojima Productions assistant producer Sean Eyestone, the team is remaking Rising's engine "from scratch" to make it look better than MGS4. Speaking during a recent Kojima Productions podcast, Eyestone describes the multiplatform project as "a big project like Metal Gear Solid 4," adding that the team "team is serious about making it look as good as possible on every platform." Let's just hope our meager eyes can take it.

You nailed it perfectly man, and like you said the best part is watching so many people turn into wannabe experts as soon as they purchase a console, and who apparently hang out commenting on blogs all day!! (and here I thought it took years of schooling and experience to become an expert; oh well kids forget school because you to can be an expert @ Joystiq)!!

Dude, seriously... Take Ben's advice. Shut up, email him with whatever issues you have.
I'd seriously consider posting here all together, if I were you. You come off like Jeffrey Dahmer trying to fit in on an Human Rights Activists forum.

I was surprised how much better the ps3 version looked (talking about FF 13). I was actually able to see both E3 trailers, and I could easily see that the ps3 version looked better and I usually can't do that since my eyesight isn't the best.

They most likely have to re-do the engine because of the 360.
Generally when you Multi-Platform, the Art Work will be the Same for Both Systems.
The Engines will differ slightly.
Since the MGS4 was PS3 Only, they probably did not Write things with Multi-Platform in Mind. So now that this is Multi-Platform, they need to start from Scratch.

So many idiots.
It doesn't matter if you can fit massive textures on blu-ray, because the fucking hardware CAN NOT RUN IT. I really don't see whats so hard to understand here. Say you change out a texture on a 360 DVD game for one on blu-ray that's 4 times the size, yeah it's possible, but then what happens when the massive texture is loaded in, oh yeah, the framerate dives.
Hence why blu-ray is totally unneccesary this gen.

They can't use the MGS4 engine, because it was build around the PS3 architecture. They have to work with another engine, if they want to make Rising for the 360 as well.

Its alright, as the complete hypocritical moron that Sprinkles is, the slip-up comment I made way back in August of 2008 is something Sprinkles will keep milking until the end of time because that's the only thing he can possibly use against me, despite the fact that he certainly has dislike at the least for whites as he made a comment thinking I was white when I made the "racist" comment against blacks.
All of us always destroy his arguments and comments and this is the only pathetic piece of ammunition he can use against me. What else would you expect from him?
Your just driving your respect and credibility into the negative numbers here now Sprinkles.

Anybody remember when Metal Gear Solid 4 was supposedly pushing the PS3 to it's limit and it just wasn't powerful enough?

No, It was the blu ray was too small. But that problem is mute now. BLU RAY can hold up to about 470gigs right now.

I hope they don't marginalize the game development in order to accommodate 1 console, if that means 5 dvds for xbox owners so be it. My concern is how is this game going to turn out without Kojima's involvement and with a completely new team.

The PS3 has more graphical oomph. For comparison, look at Uncharted 2. That's not possible on the 360. For that matter, Uncharted 1 probably isn't possible either. Neither is Little Big Planet because of the advanced texturing in the game. The 360 was released a year earlier, and has other issues (non shareable RAM, for one) that make it slightly less powerful than the PS3 graphics wise, however the PS3 has not been pushed to 100 percent yet. I think Naughty Dog's estimates for Uncharted 2 was what, 90 percent? The first was only around 30 percent. Having to rebuild the engine isn't a good sign. Developers want immediate profits-if they could release MGS4 as is to the 360, they would. Since they aren't, that implies there are other reasons (a.k.a. they can't). This doesn't mean the 360 is a bad console, but it's older than the rest and there are some things you just cant do. The PS2 was a year older and there were Xbox 1 games it just couldn't do. Plain and simple.

I'm sorry, but didn't they just re-write the engine for MGS4?!
This sounds to me alot like, "we need to re-write the engine so it'll actually run on both platforms b/c as of right now, the MGS4 engine would never be able to run on a 360."
Get ready for Metal Gear Solid Rising....coming to stores near you in 2016!!

maybe they are ALSO re-doing the engine because of the whole lightning bolt action thing... This game might not even feature a whole lot of stealth, so they would probably need to tweak the mechanics of the game which might not have been possible on the MGS4 engine.
... Just airing my thoughts. Can't wait for this though Raiden is a badass!!

.... and the 360's limitations begin to destroy this game. It will look better than 4?... who are they kidding? It's going to be like a 20 disc set for the 360.

Why is this multi disk argument going, Blue ray is great which will allow for one disk where as the xbox you can install the game on the hard drive. So what does it matter?
Posted: Jun 15th 2009 12:35PM (Unverified) said
The gpu in the 360 isn't all that better. You go to gamespot and read that garbage if you want. The ps3 gpu is around the same as the 360 one.The funny thing is the nvidia cards do more with less.Shaders and such, these ps3 titles from first party devs are killing anything the 360 has.Uncharted 2 murders GoW2 and EVERYTHING the 360 has on it atm.If they tried to port mgs4 to the 360 it would look and sound bad..Wish peeps would quit the fanboy bs and play your systems.

Meh....
If it's going to be on the X360, then the graphics can't get much better than MG4. Developers are coming out now saying the X360 has reached it's potential, while the PS3 is just barely scratching it's potential. (Not fan boy claim, just the truth).
Not to mention, as much as I loved MGS4 for the game-play, the incoherent rambling storyline was horrific. The only thing they didn't include in there were aliens. When do we find out the whole Snake genome experiments were directed by the "greys" from Zeta Reticula?

I've had my fill of toying with you. Have fun believing the shit you read. I don't even give a shit about the 360 or PS3, but it really pisses me off when retards like you come around spouting the "truth" about something and you know next to nothing about it. Like that like you posted, to a fanboy forum, with references to other fanboys on that forum. If I get a group of friends toghter, I could come up with random shit about anything and make it sound real too.

I have to say, this is the first time i've ever sat here and read every page of the comments anywhere. The comparison to a car crash is possibly the most accurate thing i've seen throughout the entire 6 pages. This is even my first comment here ever, well done to all players that helped make that happen.
Just the...absurd amount of time people spent going "no my system is better, because this guy said this *link*" which inevitably led to "nuh-uh fucktard, my system is better because THIS guy said this *link*" I notice some of the links even led to specific pages, out of context, because in the context of the entire article they come from...it dealt a major blow to the point the poster was trying to make. Kinda like what Fox news did to Obama's comments about 9/11 (o man, there's a can of worms that will be entertaining to watch spill all over) check out the June 8th episode of The Daily Show to see what I mean, and with humorous commentary to boot! Woah, digression, hang on, let me steer my thoughts back...
Personally i chose PS3 this generation. Why? In no particular order: I have an HDTV and wanted some 1080p video content, so a blu-ray player was a huge bonus. Next, they had more titles and series i wanted to play (present or planned) at the time i made my decision. Including, in no small degree, Metal Gear Solid 4. Yes, the previous two made their way to the Xbox as well, but they hit Sony's system first, and i'm very impatient. And 3, because i AM a fanboy...a naughty dog fanboy. I know that sounds stupid but i have loved every game naughty dog has produced, from Crash 2 onward (i missed the first one), like I have loved few others. I even preferred Jak to Ratchet, gasp! So were Naughty Dog ever to move to MS (yes i know, that would more or less require Sony to implode and leave Naughty Dog intact somehow) i would instantly switch sides. So sorry Sony fanboys, but i'm about to deal another blow as well: i also maintain a decently beefy PC (wait for it) because i also wanted to play Gears of War, Mass Effect and, most importantly, BioShock (and then they ported it, bastards!) i may check out Halo 3 if they port that as well. I liked the first one, but thought it was overhyped, the second one was enjoyable but kind of disappointing = i'll buy Halo 3, but not shell out a few c-notes to play it. Yes Jack Tretton, there is a lack of some games on PS3 that i want to play. (Yes Virginia, there is a...nm you got it or you didn't it was lame either way)
But to have something in keeping with the actual topic of the article. I hope the game IS a side story AND about Raiden. I want to know what the hell happened after he wandered off, still completely human, into NYC to take care of his vagina before rescuing Sonny that led to him coming back as a cybernetic ninja with the required testicular fortitude to take on multiple bipedal tanks with just a sword and be quite arrogant while doing so. Again, MGS2: vagina *in between time* MGS4: huge fucking balls. Do tell...
