Pachter: Wii price drop coming before the holiday

Michael Pachter loves low prices. First he does flip floppings around the PSP Go's price and now he's predicting a Wii price drop later this year. He notes that "Wii supply has finally exceeded demand," and that he "expect[s] Nintendo to cut the price of the Wii before [the] holiday." If true, this would be the first price drop since the Wii's release in late 2006.

Alternatively, Nintendo could simply bundle the system with software in order to persuade people to buy the system. Wii Sports was a good enough selling point back in ought-six, so why not a Wii, Wii Sports Resort and Wii MotionPlus bundle? Still, Pachter's pretty well known around these parts, so he's bound to be right. Who knows, maybe the price drop will arrive just in time for the Wii HD announcement, right Michael?

JXC, remember I don't give money to activision either? I buy all of their stuff used. I even stopped playing WoW and sold my account.

I did not know for sure they were doing that, but I don't see myself going out of my way for the NXE avatar stuff. Namco is releasing a PSN game with their classic games, and if you do something special in Pacman you get something like a Pacman arcade game for your Home space. That's the kind of stuff I can get behind, stuff that has some sort of value and I can mess around with if I'm in Home.

tmac, I am impressed by ur dedication. I have activision too but as you may have noticed i love Infinity Ward so instead of blindly hurting a large group, i boycott devs and outlets i dont like(treyarch and gamestop for example) rather than try and hurt blizzard who makes good games and supports their games like WoW

Actually my friend is a Gamestop manager and they tell people buying used games they have 7 days to return it for ANY reason including if they didn't like it. Trying to equate piracy with buying stuff second hand just shows how much of a T-mac troll you really are. The way they encourage people to buy used games is by allowing them to have 7 days to return it. Seems to be working pretty well for them, doesn't it?

Whether you agree with his rationale or not it is consistent and they are his reasons. You just make yourself look like a douche bag troll when you bash him for no good reason.

Seriously, no one cares what Pachter thinks. He's doesn't work for nintendo, he has no idea what they're going to do. He knows nothing more than you and me. Stop posting his worthless guesses.

This is job of analysts. They project sales figures, correlate them with market conditions - normally on order of customers (game companies in the case). Sometimes the analysts in interviews might give an opinion to press - but for them this is either PR or loss of money.

I know what the job of an analyst is, and it's ridiculous. They get paid to make an educated guess. My mom could guess after a few years the wii would drop in price.

And Pachter has the highest rate of success at 60%. Sixty percent? Really? How is that useful? That's hardly better than flipping a coin. There's no reason for an article every time this guy shits out a guess.

Also like to add that Wii's are still flying off shelves, even with the 360 arcade being cheaper, so I kind of doubt nintendo will just throw away a bunch of profit when there is still demand for their product with its current price point.

I've noticed that Wii's are selling for about 30$ off around my city lately. I thought that maybe no one is buying them anymore because....well......everyone has already bought one, it seems.

They only recently got the supply problem under control. I think they would want to milk it for a while as demand remains high and supply rises to meet it.

I would call for one sometime next year. Perhaps next Spring or so.

Editors: Holiday should be capitalized in your headline, as it is a proper noun. You can certainly diss Christmas by failing to name it, but you've still got to capitalize if you're going to reference it by another name.

between my XBOX 360 and PS3 i dont have time to squeeze in a Wii and its shovelware.

Is Pachter one of those jobless morons that also predict a price drop for the PS3 every couple of months?

Am I the only person who has noticed the recent media trend of reporting things that analysts GUESS as actual NEWS?

It's quite sad really... were media outlets to report on the finding of chicken bones thrown around by some voodoo queen they'd be laughed out of town, but if an ANALYST makes a wacky prediction, it's full fledged NEWS!

I don't know if a price drop is that needed, but I was wondering when Nintendo would get a price drop on the Wii. Pachter's guess could be right.
