Max Payne 3 gets different, older voice actor
73
We've already seen the new, grizzled face of Max Payne in upcoming sequel Max Payne 3, and found out a few details on the game from Game Informer's preview of the title. More news coming out of July's GI today (via Eurogamer) says that the game's titular character will lose the first two games' voice actor, James McCaffrey, and be replaced by, well, we're not quite sure yet.
"We're good at casting," Jeronimo Barrera of the game's developer, Rockstar Games, points out. "All the Max Payne themes will remain intact - manipulation, betrayal, and the stuff that really made Max Payne," art director Rob Nelson backs the decision up with. And so it seems that, while the various themes may stay intact, the main character's look and sound have absolutely changed. Here's hoping Rockstar doesn't change the title to "Minimum Pleasure!"

Is all the same, every time the developers decide to make a drastic change to their games people start bitching...
Heck, I remember people bitching because Snake would be old on MGS4..
Max Payne is not about his hair or face, not even about night shootings in New York...
For all you people who are so convinced that taking the series to Brazil is a mistake, I ask you, none of you guys have ever been to Brazil have you? Or for São Paulo for that matter... If you guys think that São Paulo is all about jungles and monkeys jumping around and half-baked mobs you obviously don't know how to use the *GOOGLE* function properly before making assumptions...
São Paulo has all the potential to be in a noir-like story, since pretty much all the city is grey and no one looks/care about the other one..
Oh wait, just like a... lemme see... a Big City maybe?? I wonder what São Paulo and New York has in common... (/sarcasm)

I agree. I have great love for Mr. Payne, and I trust Rockstar not to fuck it up.

I am not a huge Max Payne fan, haven't played the first game, and only played part of the second. Only Max Payne game I played was the GBA port which was pretty good.
But I do know enough about Max Payne to know that he was all about the destruction of the drug that he tied to the murder of his family. So to me, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that he maybe going to Brazil to take on the drug trades at the source.
I mean, I totally see this, he is no longer a cop... He sees the American Government and American Police doing nothing about stopping the manufacturing of drugs at the source, so he has nothing else to live for anymore... he uses all his money and time to find the source, then blow up the fucking shit out of it. He won't care if he lives or dies, as long as the drug dies with him.
That's the Max Payne 3 I envision, and so far seeing what I am seeing, that's exactly what it is.

People complain SOOOO much. Just be happy there is a third one even being made and calm down. If we hear the voice and it sucks and/or the story sounds retarted/too different THEN complaining will be justified but at this point you're all just complaining because you have nothing better to do.

Sorry to Vegeta and others who feel that same way, but...
Based off everything I've read and seen (like that Game Informer issue), the game so far just doesn't give me that somber Max Payne feel that I remember from when I was younger.

I know we have lots to see of the game still, but so far I can't help but expect to be disappointed. So far it's simply not Max Payne. :(

I'm not sure about the different voice actor. I mean, once you're an adult your voice doesn't even really change.

Even if that is the case, and if they had the choice and means to bring back the original guy to do his voice they should have.
The best thing about one and two was that there was almost no gap. The first one ended, and the second basically picked up immediately. I mean, yea, they can pull off the 12 year gap with the memories and talking about how he got to where he was, but thats still a big time difference. I'm just doubting :(

Fuck you Rockstar! What the Fuck are you doing?! Which corporate, video-game-daft executive came up with this decision?! The same guy who pitched the Street Fighter Chun Li Movie?! Seriously Come On!

You know I read the article and to me it has the makings to be a good game. Kind of reminds me of lethal weapon. You know how bruce willace looked fairly young in the first two, then in the last one you can see he hi rock bottom. I think it will work because true character is really seen when your stripped of everything......including hair.

2nd this. I really really wanted a Max Payne 3...
especially after all of the improvements 2 had over 1.. (We went from a bushy eyebrowed, frizzy haired mona to.. well.. Moooan-a.) And Max lost that doofy grin and became even more badass looking... Vlad also took on a better voice actor... etc I can go on.. and on about how awesome the first two games were... and it felt like New York... a snow storm, the dark night sky lit up with street lamps... you felt a part of it...
And especially GTAIV there is NO REASON Max Payne is leaving NYC other than rockstar betraying the MP franchise.
No snow, no NYPD, no NYC, no italian/russian mob bosses, I assume the wit is gone as well (baseball bat boy Vinnie gonitti was hilarious)... Max is now ugly as crap... with no reason (oh time has passed BS).. no reason because.. ALL the Max Payne stories happened in the past. Max is telling them AFTER THE FACT. So that must mean we have an even older (wheelchaired) max payne telling the story of this old man roaming a sunny, hot brazil.(wtf?)
So.. again
No snow
No NYC
No NYPD
No 100% nighttime
No mob wars betwixt russians and italians
Oh.. and no James McCaffrey now?
NO BUY.
"All the Max Payne themes will remain intact - manipulation, betrayal, and the stuff that really made Max Payne," art director Rob Nelson backs the decision up with.
Themes? Those are the same themes in HAMLET for eff sake!
Please.. please rename the game already. this is a horrible joke.
*end rant* *vomits*

I don't really get this whole, max being angrier thing. Because Max Payne 2 ended on a positive note if you beat it on DOA and the hardest difficulty endings are generally the "true" endings. Unless Rockstar has worked that in. I was expecting and hoping to see more of Mona. She made Max Payne 2 for me.
