I wonder if this means we'll see multiplatform games on the iPhone and PSP. Of course they wont use a touch screen but actual buttons and a dpad don't hurt.

Boy oh boy I can't wait for the app store to be flooded with useless shit like in the DSIware store. Nothing but clocks and calculators and all that garbage.

don't hold back now tmac, tell us how you really feel! ;P

I agree, although all of those apps find a home and a use for someone on this rock we call home. Buyer beware, right?

In the end look at it like this man - you don't have to buy anything....yet you get a selection to peruse through..which is better than we were a year ago in North America.

Remember when the PSP store wasn't tied to PSN??? Remember the hassles of downloading to XP machine, then transferring to your PSP????

I do. I'm glad those days are gone.

Are Sony always going to plat catch-up this generation?

They don't seem to have any unique ideas for their consoles this generation - except the PS3 price, but we see where that got them. Everything else seems to be a repeat of the competitors, except with a delay.

Uhm, are you kidding me? Its SONY. I dont want to sound like a fanboy here, but without Sony, most of the games we are playing now wouldnt be here.

Sorry, but I think Sony revolutionized gaming with the PS1(Maybe.), PS2, and now the PS3.

Sony is a giant in electronics, they sell from tvs to stereos and want to sell videogames the same manner. PS3 and PSP can bankrupt but sony will be fine without them.

Now nintendo and microsoft are different, one needs the game industry to survive so all the urge to have something new for the public, the other is a giant in software and want's his products in everyone house's.

No unique ideas? Is that a fanboy statement, because I find that hard to believe, that would be like saying Microsoft have shown nothing unique or Nintendo has shown nothing unique.

@ Masterofallz

Noooo, actually, that was Nintendo, Sony just introduced the CD and carried it on from there.

Before Nintendo came about, the world consisted of overpriced consoles with rubbishy games no one wanted to play

They are playing catch-up this generation. The store for the PSP should've been booming years ago, but it was lacking up until recently when they finally added it into the PSP itself. Bad advertising left owners completely oblivious to the PC connectivity. They could've had a huge start on the competition, given that the PSP released 4 years ago is fully capable of doing everything anyway.

Nintendo came when the industry was rebounding anyway. Seriously, look at the sales trends. The fact that it caught on in the test market wasn't because of the plastic robot. And keep in mind, during the great industry crash, arcades had a dramatic increase in popularity.

Also, you forget the tons and tons and tons of rubbish on Nintendo and Sega systems. No company, aside from Neo Geo, was immune from this.

Sony offered full game downloads of retail titles before Microsoft did. Sony had the first Blu-Ray based console on the market. Sony allowed users to replace the PS3's HDD with any drive, not a proprietary solution. Sony used Bluetooth to great effect in the PS3. These all sound like firsts to me.

Shall I go on?

I dont want to get into a debate but as a Sony devotee, even I can see the many missteps they've made. Their infrastructure for updating the PS3 and allowing basic tenets of multiplayer gaming is flawed and has been flawed since release. They aren't perfect, but they've got a hell of a machine that i love to death. I'm glad to hear the PSP Go will be getting the iPhone app/dsiware treatment. It just sort of makes sense, with the added benefit of full retail sized games that from what I can tell, the iPhone has yet to nail down.

Why do people keep naming the PSP Go specifically when referring to an impending App Store? Am I mistaken, or shouldn't this also be coming to the previous PSP models?

I think they are linking the release of the PSP Go with the PR campaign something to the effect of competing with the DSi that ushered the nentendo app store for the first time with their portable system. Ignoring the fact and to some extent pulling the wool over the fact the PSP has had the potential to do exactly what the DSi has now enabled the DS to do since its launch several years ago with the first 1000 model and has just been sorely neglected until this the fourth iteration of the PSP.

I'm sure with all the negative response to the GO it doesn't hurt to try to link the black sheep of the PSP family to some positive upcoming all be it totally unrelated aspect that can probably apply to any PSP model

I don't think Sony considers the DSi competition. I think they're trying to go head-on with the iPod Touch hence the similar pricing structure.

see, now you're just trolling. the short answer is "no dumbass"

a touch screen interface is great, it's intuitive. as far as using it for games, well I had a DS before I bought a PSP, and most of my DS games are d-pad controlled - so I'm not sweating it. I don't care, but for general interface and navigation of the system and associated networks and network capabilities....yeah - that'd be spot on IMO.

;)

Remote Play?

Isn't that kind of lame for a portable device? It should download and play youtube videos right on the device, not require you to get them from your PS3 in the first place.

Yes, give us YouTube or a decent Flash Player sony!

I doubt you will ever see a full version of the flash player on the PSP for one reason .... it would allow people to play software that sony didn't put their rubber stamp on first. the fact that flash is so open and can be used in such an array of versatile ways at least in my opinion is what has kept it off the system.

I dunno about innovation, but these dancing robots were really cool when they first showed them to the public. It's a shame that they could never be mass-produced due to costs.

this is piss poor reporting. the store has been in place for a long time now. you have been able to buy and download many applications (including games) from it directly on the PSP. lots of free stuff too, including demos, themes, trailers, etcetera. all they are talking about is adding a widget section which will most likely house things like http://www.psponme.com/list_psp.asp?cat=Tools
