Also this Wednesday: Rocket Riot [update]
($10). See original post below. So, um, apparently there's another game hitting Xbox Live Arcade this week. The thing is, you see, Microsoft apparently left it out of the announcement press release. The game in question is Rocket Riot, which, appropriately enough, involves plenty of riotous, rocket blasting action. Codeglue, the game's developer, has announced that the game will release tomorrow alongside the previously announced titles.
Now, we would be remiss if we didn't point out that developers have been wrong about XBLA release dates before. As a general rule, we don't accept releases as fact unless Microsoft announces them. Alas, we've yet to receive confirmation from Microsoft about Rocket Riot. Still, even Xbox.com states the game is out tomorrow (for 800
), so we'd say it's probably a safe bet. Probably.

Why do XBLA release titles and dates have to be shrouded in such secrecy? I guarantee that if you announced the release dates for whats coming out for the next 3 months they would get people excited and will sell more XBLA games (more of the good games at least... oh... did I just answer my own question?) Retail games they slowly release information over a year or more (teaser trailers, set lists, boss characters, playable characters, etc) and it builds excitement and anticipation. And don't tell me that Microsoft doesn't know until a week beforehand what will be ready for release, they know when titles will be ready.

I think XBLA releases are kept secret because MS and/or the developer doesn't know until the very end when something will actually be released. I can imagine the Marketplace schedule gods playing musical chairs every day.

I guess they put all ready titles in a hat and do a draw on like, friday mornings. And some idiots write the ready titles on post-its, that's why we get multiple titles some weeks.

I've never heard of this game, but it looks entertaining. My MS points are still goin down on Magic the Gathering though.
Dishwasher @ Jun 16th 2009 5:08PM
that actually looks really cool
mars @ Jun 16th 2009 5:08PM
sorry, but my last points went to big surf island.
one of the best uses of microsoft points i've ever used. so fun! however, I can't find the last megajump. I've smashed all the gates and broken all the billboards, but the megajumps are the hardest cause you can't tell if they've been completed or not.
Kattleox @ Jun 16th 2009 5:13PM
have you done the big ski jump yet? Somehow that was the one I had overlooked.
mars @ Jun 16th 2009 6:05PM
yeah I have. and the one next to it. I'm thinking its probably one that I've jumped off but maybe landed sideways and crashed, so it didn't count. so far, I can't find a map online of all 15 of them so I can just hit them all and check them off. that would be really helpful if I could find it

I wish to GOD this was an XBLA remake of Rocket Jockey... :(
SovereignSky @ Jun 16th 2009 5:32PM
The homeless looking rocket guy carrying the "will kill for gamerscore" sign at the end of the trailer was hilarious

Wonder why they left this out of the announcement - it looks kinda awesome.

It really looks good. Consider it bought, if I like what the demo offers. Rest'll go to Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Jun 17th 2009 11:13AM
Yeah actually Rocket Riot looks like it could be cool. I'll try the demo.
