Dark Sector half-priced on Steam, console versions also going for cheap
Having only been on the market for three months, the PC version of Dark Sector will already be going on sale for half price on Steam. The third-person shooter will stay at the slashed price of $9.99 throughout the week and up until next Monday, June 22.
If you're strictly a PC gamer and looking to dive into Dark Sector, then this appears to be a good time to pick it up. Those with consoles should hit Amazon. The site lists the PS3 version at only $6, and the Xbox 360 version is going for an acceptable $1.49. The PC software of Dark Sector is a direct port of the original console game released last year, so the only difference you'll notice between versions is the price.

This one was in my top 10 games last year. A steal at those prices!
ThatPCgameryouhate @ Jun 16th 2009 2:16AM
@ 1.49 this game literally is being stolen by that company.
Also, that should be the price of every game ever released. That's how to solve those economic problems.
Alphathon @ Jun 16th 2009 9:13AM
@ThatPCgameryouhate - what evidence do you have that they are literally stealing it. Either you are using literally for emphasis (which is almost as bad as using metric for emphasis - a metric ton exisit, as ton is part of the metric system people. There is no such thing as a metric gallon or a metric yard /rant) or you have some kind of inside info on the matter.
Shagittarius @ Jun 16th 2009 9:53AM
What about a shit ton?
Vidikron @ Jun 16th 2009 11:04AM
"There is no such thing as a metric gallon or a metric yard /rant) or you have some kind of inside info on the matter."
I've never seen anyone say those.
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Jun 16th 2009 11:27AM
People use "ton" for emphasis, but you object to them saying "metric ton" on the basis that a metric ton actually exists? Where's the logic in that? Of course a metric ton exists! It'd make no sense otherwise. Let's try this out: "I've got a skimdish of work to do today, but I'm spending my time on Joystiq instead." See? It just doesn't work as well.
There's nothing wrong with saying "metric ton" as an exaggeration. It just means "I've got so much, it's more than a ton; it's a metric ton."
ignfan69 @ Jun 16th 2009 12:49PM
The economic problems must be the reason it has $7.99 shipping.
For that shipping price the developer of the game better hand deliver it themselves and explain to me why over half the achievements are uninspired and based on a subpar multiplayer experience.
natepetedmb @ Jun 16th 2009 2:05PM
Me too! How did this game fly under the radar/get bad reviews.
Mr.U2 @ Jun 16th 2009 2:21AM
Wait... a brand new plastic-wrapped never-been-opened copy of the Xbox 360 version of Dark Sector is on sale for $1.49? One dollar and forty-nine cents? Seriously?
melloncollie @ Jun 16th 2009 2:24AM
Plus $7.99 shipping.
Mr.U2 @ Jun 16th 2009 2:27AM
Yea... Just saw that myself. Ha, well to be honest, $9.49 for a brand new decent third person shooter is still pretty good.
Strike Man @ Jun 16th 2009 2:55AM
"Those with consoles should hit Amazon. The site lists the PS3 version at only $6, and the Xbox 360 version is going for an acceptable $1.49. "
To clarify, Amazon.com is not selling Dark Sector for this price (the 360 version is being sold at the MSRP of $19.99). An outfit known as "Quick Buys" is listing a new copy for sale through Amazon's site for $1.49. As others have noted, they do also charge $7 for shipping.
TheDemiurge @ Jun 16th 2009 4:36PM
I just spent $9.98 for FarCry 2 at Target the other day. Kind of off topic, I know.
Alex @ Jun 16th 2009 2:31AM
maybe I heard completely wrong, but isn't this a horrible and extremely buggy game, getting reviews around 50%?
uncle jesse @ Jun 16th 2009 10:03AM
Dark Sector is worth 10 bucks, easy. I bought it for $15 a while ago and it was decent. It's not going to blow you away or anything, but it's fun while it lasts. There are some annoying parts that you have to just plow through. But the glaive can make for some pretty sweet kills.
I say, if you are on the fence, just pick it up. It's cheap and if you end up hating it, you only bought it for a couple of bucks anyways. Chances are that you will end up having a good time.
fischju @ Jun 16th 2009 2:34AM
I had zero bugs with the PC version and played with a 360 controller, it was a perfectly enoyable experience. At this price, I would recommend it.
carg0 @ Jun 16th 2009 2:35AM
i wouldn't add that piece of sh*t to my collection even if they paid me.
Tiptup300 @ Jun 16th 2009 3:12AM
I don't think you've played it. There was nothing wrong with the game, it's just that it explored nothing at all. Like it was been there done that, like the instant you started the game.
carg0 @ Jun 16th 2009 3:38AM
uh, no, actually i did, though i wish i hadn't.
ya see, when you've been playing for as long as i have, you don't have to be kind to garbage like Dark Sector for fear of upsetting relationships with the developer/publisher or 15 year-old's who's definition of "classic" extends no further than Halo for the Xbox.
it's called 'experience'. you'll understand when you're older, i promise.

...said the pathetic little troll with no opinion of his own to contribute.
still upset? *points* the brick wall is over there.
Payka @ Jun 16th 2009 4:53AM
wow, honestly, i haven't seen a bigger douchebag on the entire internet ALL day. Nobody thinks you're cool, we're just laughing at you. You know that right?
carg0 @ Jun 16th 2009 5:12AM
*sigh*... said yet another pathetic little troll with nothing to contribute. you're under the impression i give a f*uck what you think, troll?
these are my comments you're replying to, dumb ass. you have a problem with them, talk to my secretary (points to brick wall).
are all trolls this irretrievably stupid?
The Baron @ Jun 16th 2009 6:59AM
Well, you did start it.
Wizzleteets @ Jun 16th 2009 8:39AM
First of all, if you didn't give a shit what people think, you wouldn't be replying.
Secondly, if you're the free-thinking, mature gamer you seem to think you are, you wouldn't be using the word "troll."
wonderweazel @ Jun 16th 2009 9:41AM
but his opinion must matter, he is wearing a tie.
PSN:JACKOFNOTRADES85 @ Jun 16th 2009 9:48AM
@carg0
You really must be a fucking retarded. Your the one thats being the troll. Go back and read you comments. You nothing but a hypocrite loser.
Alphathon @ Jun 16th 2009 9:54AM
I see only one troll here - you (well maybe dark inchworm as well, as he's the one who took it off-topic, without adding much. He's right, but also a troll). Also, I agree with what Wizzleteets and Payka said whole-heartedly.
So you don't like the game. Big whoop, wanna fight about it? (Clearly the answer is yes, but it just seemed so appropriate to quote that).
Also when you say about people definition of classic, I hope you aren't saying that classic games can't be as new as halo 1 (although I don't think it is a classic, things like timesplitters 2 I consider to be classic CONSOLE fps's, along with things like goldeneye) as if you are then you're no better than they are. So you've been gaming for longer that some. So what? The very fact that most people havn't been exposed to things that you would seem to consider classic seems to have no bearing on your opinion. Some games I consider classics for example (starcraft, dungeon keeper, the original C&Cs, conker's bad fur day, tekken 3 etc) has a lot to do with the fact I got my first PC in 1998, and my first console was a PS1 (got that in '98 or '99).
Oh well, at least you didn't start a "which console is best" debate.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jun 16th 2009 10:05AM
My apologies if I come off as a troll, but seriously... the guy acts as though his many years (how many?) of gaming adds more weight to his opinion than that of Tiptup's, and he boldly assumes that Tiptup is a young teenage drone. About the worst thing Tiptup did is conclude that the OP may not have played the game, and he even left that open to the possibility of being mistaken.
I may not have a lot of room to speak, being the snark_inchworm that I am, but I call out the Internet Tough Guys as I see them. Bad habit, I guess.
deaftly @ Jun 16th 2009 3:06AM
Picked it up at gamestop used for like 6 bucks a month or 2 ago, great game. I actually found people playing it online on ps3.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jun 16th 2009 9:45AM
I found it about 4 months ago at my local Wal-Mart for $10 and thought "WTH". It's actually a pretty solid game! I did get handed my ass online, though.
l33tpushpop @ Jun 16th 2009 3:24AM
Yeah, when you add the nasty $7.99 shipping...might as well go to your local Gamestop where you can get it new for $9.99 if you want it so bad.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jun 16th 2009 3:48AM

BPMOmega [GT,Steam] @ Jun 16th 2009 3:43AM
I'd buy that for a dollar!
Kadamon @ Jun 16th 2009 4:17AM
'Eh...I don't think I'd pay that much for it anyway, of course, that might be because I found it kind of boring. I guess it's because I didn't get that far.
Underground with some weirdo-mutants and I could electrify the Glaive.
It was fun at first, but it got really boring really quick when you only have a temporary machinegun, a useless pistol and the Glaive.
Deaddy @ Jun 16th 2009 4:22AM
Dark Sector is way underrated. I'm done with it tho and I was insulted when EB offered me $2 for it. I decided to keep the game, maybe I'll play it again one day.
Gerik @ Jun 16th 2009 5:00AM
$10 for the Steam version is a bargain in my book. Long live PC gaming!
kingheff1 @ Jun 16th 2009 4:47PM
I got the UK version for £7.50, only up to the second level, hardly a world beater but for that price I'm hardly going to moan!
StalkerB @ Jun 16th 2009 5:04AM
I got this just last month for £4.49 delivered and it's actually pretty decent.
I ordered it on Jan 22nd and got it May 22nd from The Hut, but that's a different story.
I'm up to chapter 7 or 8 now and while it's smooth to play the cover system is a bit worse than Gears and no blind fire, the level design is sometimes atrocious but won't hold you up for too long if you quickly look it up (I'm looking at you switch over the fence) and the Glaive is a pretty cool weapon/feature.
Defo worth it for $10 if you like that sort of thing.
meatee @ Jun 16th 2009 5:52AM
yeah that over the fence crap was annoying, but once I (finally) got past that, I haven't run into any other glaringly bad design choices. I'd say its worth it to pick it up for cheap.
Gerik @ Jun 16th 2009 5:17AM
If you don't think that Dark Inchworm's remark of calling you a presumptuous jerk was an opinion, you are then qualifying it as fact.
Gerik @ Jun 16th 2009 5:19AM
yeah, that was meant to be @carg0. woot lack of edit or delete buttons.
derdaim @ Jun 16th 2009 5:41AM
mmh - I never heard about this game Oo
Metoo @ Jun 16th 2009 6:51AM
I had fun with the game. It was the greatest story ever told, but the Glaive-play was satisfying.
whylekat @ Jun 16th 2009 7:20AM
Greatest story ever told?
Seriously? Come on dude, read a book for once =P
Poisoned Al @ Jun 16th 2009 8:58AM
What he said. Also, don't ever play Grim Fandango. I'm sure it would blow your tiny, little mind!
Metoo @ Jun 16th 2009 7:21AM
Come on dude, it was a typo. "wasn't the greatest story" I meant. No edit function.
aristokrat @ Jun 16th 2009 7:29AM
But there is a reply function!
Vcize @ Jun 16th 2009 10:55AM
Hey-oh!
tracerbond @ Jun 16th 2009 7:46AM
Ehhh, I played through the story mode once. The story was uninspired, the bosses were easily figured out, the only real innovation it had over Gears of War was that glaive thing attached to the protagonist's arm. Sure, it's worth a rental, but Dark Sector is another example of something that should have stayed as vaporware. If it takes you 8 years to create one merely okay game, then it's probably time to try something else.
Oh, and good luck trying to get those multiplayer achievements when there are maybe eight people still playing online, and if they do show up they appear in unranked servers.
