Nintendo selling puzzlingly vintage Professor Layton bundle in UK

MCV suggests that it's being positioned as a Father's Day bundle, but we could see it selling well beyond the gift-giving occasion, due to two factors: first, the enduring hit status of Professor Layton, and second, wow, is that ever a classy-looking box design.

Well, for one, not everyone wants/needs the new DS system, and the cost of putting a new DS as opposed to the perfectly capable lite in this package would probably jack up the price a bit. I would never use the camera, and the other features seem to require internet connectivity (store, browser, etc.), something I don't have a good part of the time when I'm using my DS (I'm not one of those people who plays handhelds at home). Also, yeah, that is one of the coolest bundle packages as far as design goes that I've seen in a while...

Good, now where the hell is the rest of the Layton games?
mr nimblewick @ Jun 16th 2009 11:32AM
Heck, I have the game and still want to buy that box.

Nice box

They're airing TV adverts in the UK, specifically saying it's a great Father's day gift.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jun 16th 2009 11:40AM
I'd pay the money just for the box.

They're also airing adverts for Mario Kart DS in America. It's not an uncommon practice for them

Give us some DSi bundles.... quit pushing the out of date stuff trying to clear out old hardware.
Sadly though... that Mother's Day bundle was really cool... the green was a nice change of pace.. just wanted the DSi though.

It's neither old nor out of date. All the games that are coming out or that are available now are playable on the DSlite. And it's a great way to introduce Layton to people who've never played it before and wanna try it before the new game comes out. It's just a matter of whether or not you well shell out the extra $40 for the camera and other extra stuff.

Prof Layton and the curious village was released in November 2008 in Europe so it's not actually that old on top of all the other correct comments above

If Nintendo was to release a DSi w/ the new Professor Layton game, I'd probably buy it. I have a 1st generation Nintendo DS that has served me well, and a bundle like that priced at 200$ would convince me.

That's not gonna selll well. Most men like to prove their "manliness"
