Old Sam Fisher is old in Splinter Cell: Conviction
Despite his comfy Jason Bourne-like turtleneck and new 'tude, Sam Fisher hasn't been able to reinvent himself as far as his aging body goes. Splinter Cell: Conviction will see our stealthy superdude slinking around in his 50s, an age mostly associated with dust and Werther's Originals. "He's pretty old, actually," a game dev told VG247 back at E3, further adding that Fisher would definitely be in his 50's for Conviction. Heck, we could only hope to look that good when we hit our 50s!
So, Sam, what's your secret? Centrum Silver?

paperless @ Jun 16th 2009 10:21PM
You go uphill and then you go uphill downhill or whatever
lego91994 @ Jun 16th 2009 10:25PM
He lived in an MC Escher painting

@lego91994:
Possibly one of the best comments I've seen here.
Sly [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 16th 2009 11:03PM
nah, the best comment ever on this site was sheppy's "onion opinion SMB2" comment which was a reply to sprinkles. i think that was on january 1st this year...
CubeGuy @ Jun 16th 2009 11:44PM
Y'know, I've been using that "uphill both ways" line for as long as I can remember, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone else say it (aside from wherever I picked it up from, of course). So thank you. I'm not crazy.
IN regards to that SMB2 comment, I can't find it. Can you get any more specific than the date? I'm curious now. D=
CubeGuy @ Jun 16th 2009 11:49PM
Yeah. Nevermind. the 'site:' parameter on Google is my friend.

News must be slow today.
MystileArmor @ Jun 16th 2009 10:30PM
Last time I checked, Joystiq was a blog. Not a news broadcast.
Random G @ Jun 16th 2009 11:54PM
Can't I joke around a little? It's nothing personal. I'm not expecting to see any big announcements when E3 was just a couple of weeks ago.
Caveman @ Jun 16th 2009 10:30PM
This game is going to be so sick. It definitely didn't get enough attention at E3. The thing I like about this game is it's story. Almost like that movie Taken. I love revenge!
Anticrawl @ Jun 16th 2009 11:20PM
At first I was really pissed at what they had done with Splinter Cell, but after the E3 presentation I cooled down a great bit. Even though there aren't any sexy gadgets and no longer a cynical jaded and somewhat humorous Sam Fisher the new style and gameplay elements make up for it. I chose the Ubisoft E3 Conference as my favorite when I voted, sure it was really slow and poorly put together but I don't care about the politics, I just loved the games.
ToRo @ Jun 17th 2009 1:58AM
The next Splinter Cell will either be a prequel similar to Splinter cell Essentials or they will end the Sam Fisher storyline and start up with a new character.
It pains me to say this but I am hoping for the latter. Sam Fisher is awesome. But after conviction, is he or the government really going to forget everything that has happened? He won't be able to go back doing field ops. They need to tie off Fisher and start fresh with a new character.
Jose @ Jun 16th 2009 10:33PM
50 isn't that old. You guys seen that bow flex commercial with that fifty year old lady with the huge fake rack. I'd still smash it like an Idaho potato, is all I'm saying...
Anticrawl @ Jun 16th 2009 11:22PM
Mmmmm potatoes. You can't go wrong with a potato, they are good for everything. Truely the most amazing vegetable.
NoughtSoClever @ Jun 17th 2009 9:43AM
I think you missed the point Anti. The dude was saying that he really likes the Bowflex.
abelpc @ Jun 16th 2009 10:33PM
Although Hollywood shaved his age by quite a bit, Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne was around 50 years old and he kicked butt.
Sam Fisher would be No different.. he will be an ass kicker into his 60's.. LOL
NoughtSoClever @ Jun 17th 2009 9:45AM
Jack Bauer. He's nearly 50.
Dave @ Jun 16th 2009 10:33PM
"Heck, we could only hope to look that good when we hit our 50's!"
Hey, we've seen the pics--you guys don't look that good now. You expecting the chiseled-jaw fairy to pay you a visit between now and then?

Tightie whities, huh?
Judd @ Jun 16th 2009 10:58PM
There's definitely some sort of brown stain on Kiefer's undies.
ToRo @ Jun 17th 2009 1:50AM
Kiefer wears Tightie whities. So that means their cool, lol. And yeah there is a stain somewhere there.
chris.rackley @ Jun 16th 2009 10:43PM
I watched it and could see his age in the video. They're staying true to form. To me, he reminds me a lot of Bruce Willis' John McClane in Live Free and Die Hard. Dude was old . . . but dude was ripped.
Daniel @ Jun 16th 2009 10:53PM
Anyone notice another MGS parallel with the age progression?
MystileArmor @ Jun 16th 2009 11:03PM
They totally ripped it off from Star Wars! First Anakin is a little boy, then he's a teenager and then he's like all old and shit in a black suit!
Geeezzzz...
Daniel @ Jun 16th 2009 11:18PM
Clever...
The SC series has drawn comparison to the MGS series since the first game
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Jun 17th 2009 1:17AM
Totally brah. Because MGS is the only fictional series that had a main character grow old. Kojima invented that.
K1LLER HORNET @ Jun 17th 2009 6:23AM
@ Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta)
of course he did... didn't you know :P
NoughtSoClever @ Jun 17th 2009 9:48AM
Daniel is right! It will finally be revealed that Fisher is a clone, which explains his accelerated aging.
DeepFriedSushi @ Jun 16th 2009 10:56PM
i liked hobo fisher, he seemed more interesting and complex.
Sly [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 16th 2009 11:05PM

MuToiD_MaN @ Jun 16th 2009 11:07PM
Well at least he hasn't let himself go like Max Payne ...
Shashwat @ Jun 16th 2009 11:12PM
oh yeah guess what little sammy, i had to walk 1 mile up and down a himalayan slope in a forest infested with dangerous monkeys all while the path's covered with 1 inch thick ice which makes the 60 degree slope dangerous. yeah that's my old school. your school can suck it you pussy ass spy with no respect for us himalayan veterans.

The Bourne Comparison #2:
Jason Bourne was in his Fifties in The Bourne Ultimatum. (book, not movie)

but Matt Damon is an awesome super soldier who shows no sign of age,
or emotion,
or pain,
or hunger,
or mercy!

If Sam Fisher where in his seventies, I bet he could climb Mt. Everest, jump off of it, get hit by 10 cars at once, be in the middle of a nuclear bomb, be dipped in acid, fight 15 Mafia gangs at once, swim across the Amazon and get bitten by a hundred deadly fish, get hit by 5 B-52 bombers, and the whole time 20 machine guns being shot at him---But he's SAM FISHER, and he would survive all of that. There wouldn't be a scratch on him, and he wouldn't even break a drop of sweat...Because he's SAM FISHER.
Alex McKee @ Jun 17th 2009 1:42AM
Pretty sure you're confusing him with Chuck Norris, Gordon Freeman, Master Chief, and/or other random gaming deities.
Bravo6 @ Jun 17th 2009 12:08AM
Liam Neeson in Taken. 'nuff said.
Michael K. @ Jun 17th 2009 12:44AM
an old sam fisher? its kinda cute that they're trying to be like metal gear
Weaver Fever @ Jun 17th 2009 1:15AM
It's cool though. See, Sam Fisher doesn't have a mutation in his blood caused by another mutation, that's mutated further to maybe cause mutation among the populace. Did I mention it's mutated? Guess what, hero's age. It's not like it's a new invention.
Michael K. @ Jun 17th 2009 1:24PM
Wow, that was an even whinier reply than I ever expected to get, which probably deserves some sort of prize. First of all, not all heros age in the videogame industry (look at Mario, he hasn't aged a day in twenty years or after 50 or so games). I was just pointing out the irony that splinter cell, which has ripped off metal gear since the beginning (and has not done it well) announced a game with an old version of the character a year after MGS4. Showing that the year since MGS4's release gave them time to play MGS4, take some notes, then start work on the splinter cell.
mgsrocks1 @ Jun 17th 2009 12:58AM
Well, maybe Sam Fisher looks great because he...you know...eats fish?
I know, I know. Lame joke.
