The future is now: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 screens in 3D
Normally we don't get excited for new screens in the "Holy S! It's the future in front of my eyes!" kind of way, but friends, today is an exception. Vicarious Visions has posted its second 3D screenshot of upcoming superhero extravaganza, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (both found after the break) on its website and, to be honest, it's really impressive, allowing you to spin the full image in three dimensions.
The newest one features Deadpool leaping into the air and firing dual pistols at a bunch of fools, while the first (and even more impressive) screen has Thor combining with The Human Torch's powers to create some form of fire tornado. That's right -- a fire tornado. And no, things don't get much sweeter than that.
[Thanks, Wombat!]

False @ Jun 16th 2009 4:20PM
Well...that just looks balls-to-the-wall awesome, doesn't it?
Day 1 purchase!
Ghen @ Jun 16th 2009 4:20PM
I like the lightning crackling. I wonder if they made a seperate tool to do that or if thats their main developer tool.

Ghen, do you make an effort to let things spew out of your mouth that don't make sense? You've sucessfully wasted a minute of my time reading and re-reading crap that doesn't make sense.
Vcize @ Jun 16th 2009 7:24PM
It took you a minute to read that?
Bagels: Commander in Chief of the lolcat sarcasm alert force. @ Jun 16th 2009 7:56PM
To try to understand it. I finally figured out he knows absolutely nothing about 3D modeling or animation, He's just pretending to.
nig @ Jun 17th 2009 1:09AM
geez bagel you're such a dick
he didn't ask that question with any technical terms, you just assumed that everyone who plays games have to have the passion to know ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING about making games
he didn't know if that was like one of the many doctored screenshots we see or based on the game engine
frankly, i don't know what's what about it either and i'm damn sure there are many people who don't as well
you having any background in game development (or maybe not, wikipedia is every tool's best friend) is no reason for you to treat any of us like idiots
8-bit.artist @ Jun 17th 2009 10:34AM
bagels just got served.
Bagels: Commander in Chief of the lolcat sarcasm alert force. @ Jun 17th 2009 1:08PM
Wow, you're taking this way too seriously and reading WAY into something. Talk about assuming. If I had a problem with people not knowing things, that'd be my fault, and frankly illogical. I have a problem with Ghen, particularily because he has a history of being pompous and assuming, and because he's ACTING like he knows what's up. I just have an issue with him, is that legal, sir? Please chill out. It's games and software. Not politics.
Ghen @ Jun 17th 2009 6:15PM
I'm kinda in the dark here.. how was my statement bad again?
I've seen 3D creation tools in developer videos before and its pretty neat what they do. I was just wondering if they had to create something else to do this animation or if that's what they see when they go to work every day. If its the latter it would be even cooler.
kn00tcn @ Jun 21st 2009 5:35AM
my theory is the engine randomly loads up some lightning type sprites whenever something gets hit by the shot, & the only way to make a '3d screenshot' is to make a screenshot a bunch of times, rotating the camera each time
so they script the action sequence, pause the engine at a specific time, take a pic, move the camera, repeat, but the bolts load a different version/angle since they're randomly generated
NaeemTHM @ Jun 16th 2009 4:20PM
This game is soooo unrealistic. It would take an adversary of god like proportions to take on a team consisting of Thor, Hulk, and IronMan. And if we're talking post-WWH then it would take God himself.

Thanos, Death, The Tribunal, The Beyonder, One-Above-All, anyone with an Omega-Level weapon (Infinity gauntlet, as an example)...
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 16th 2009 4:58PM
i can never remember, is One-Above-All the celestial or God? Or is God One Above All?
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jun 16th 2009 5:18PM
What's with all of this violence against glasses?
RPGFanatic @ Jun 16th 2009 6:17PM
Because super-heroes are totally realistic to begin with...

Maximun2k10 @ Jun 16th 2009 4:33PM
Pretty Cool ! :D
jam @ Jun 16th 2009 4:36PM
This is neat. I saw this done with the wolverine game. Game company's should think about these as new screen shots that they could give to the gaming media to show the gaming masses. IT'S THE FUTURE!!!!
Dr. steve brule (formerly ronald.raygun) @ Jun 17th 2009 1:43AM
i remember this being done with halo 2 or 3, cant remember which though
Mu93n @ Jun 16th 2009 4:41PM
so i want the deadpool one as my screensaver. just so you all know...
Nobledevil @ Jun 16th 2009 4:42PM
Damn, we need to see this more often for awesome games.
And ONLY awesome games. I don't need to have screens load for some bullsh*t Petz game, but Assassin's Creed 2 would be hot.
Mike @ Jun 16th 2009 4:44PM
Get back to me when there's a Y axis and a decent resolution.

Thanks for the "thanks", I told you those screens were awesome
mirage @ Jun 16th 2009 5:05PM
The first time I saw something like this was with COD4. There was a screenshot of guys jumping from a helicopter that you could view in quicktime. That was really sweet. Can't really compare to these since they have yet to load.
sp23hagbard5 @ Jun 16th 2009 7:30PM
also the first flatout had this kind of 360° screens
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Jun 16th 2009 6:08PM

Anthology @ Jun 17th 2009 10:31AM
Bungie did this years ago, prior to Halo 3's Beta release.
Just saying.
It's good to see these sorts of "screenshots," though.
I wish more games would use technology like this. Plain images are so... Flat.
Garst @ Jun 17th 2009 4:45AM
I hope Jean is playable in this game. She was always on my team in the X-Men Legends games, but it sucked not being able to play as her in the first MUA game.
But you know what would really suck? If they use the game data from the first game, because I would have to play the game with no mutants, gods, or california and the humans hate me. Although, I think that last one is the main plot line for the second game any way.
wrc3 @ Jun 17th 2009 10:19AM
Are those shots actually from the Wii version? I mean, Wolverine didn't look that good (and played about the same)...
rikthagreat @ Jul 21st 2009 1:42AM
IM NOT TOO CRAZY ABOUT THE 3D PART
BUT AT LEAST IT'S NO VIRTUAL BOY
