Valve releases Team Fortress 2 master maps for modding
Whether you're a multitalented master of map modification or an acutely amateurish architect, perk up your ears -- Valve just uploaded 10 original Team Fortress 2 maps into the Source developer kit for your modding pleasure. Said maps include Lumberyard, Ravine, Badlands, Dustbowl, Granary, Gravelpit, 2Fort, Badwater, Goldrush, and Hydro.
If your modding experience is limited, you can use these pre-made maps as a canvas for subtle weapon placement and blockade changes, easing you into the finer points of environmental creation. For more advanced world-shapers, you can study the intricate design of these levels to learn how the mapmaking professionals at Valve do they business.

The results of this should be interesting...

2Fort4Dead where we come!
Justin Baillargeon @ Jun 16th 2009 8:02PM
Really? Joystiq actually took time out of their day to italicize their grammar mistakes....
simblor @ Jun 16th 2009 8:10PM
Just like you took time out of your day to complain about it?
Justin Baillargeon @ Jun 16th 2009 8:35PM
Was my sarcastic way of pointing out a common mistake and hopefully they can/will fix it
Arkle @ Jun 16th 2009 8:55PM
I doubt it took them long. But more importantly, I think it was intentional.
Y'know, to make them sound hip and happening.
Billy @ Jun 17th 2009 3:35AM
It was intentional you fucking moron.
rudylongoria2 @ Jun 16th 2009 8:09PM
@Justin Baillargeon
No it wasn't joystiq that made the mistake. It was a monkey dressed up as a spy who uploaded his banana virus to make them talk like zombie pirates. But other than that, nothing else is new here just a minor technical difficulty.

cheese can now be used as an adjective but you have to slap yourself with a piece of salami 36 times before you can become the scout with an endless energy supply!! MUHAHAHAHA!!! And his energy drink!! Think of the possibilities!!! Oh crap, I can feel the crash coming!! *collapse*
Gibbeynater @ Jun 16th 2009 8:16PM
But is the drop rate fixed?
Einhanderkiller @ Jun 16th 2009 8:59PM
Has been fixed for awhile now.

"Obligatory comment regarding the 360 Orangebox"
While this is all new stuff is great how about some news regarding the 360 updates? Wouldn't just releasing TF2 on its own game disc solve a lot of problems? Nearly two years I've waited for something new. I hope they don't patch the recent case of glitchers/hackers (whichever it is) Low gravity is fun and new, and while the team kill thing can be really abused its 'fresh'. How hard is it to write a short paragraph every month or two saying how far along they are?

As I understand it, you should be blaming Microsoft, not Valve.

I love team fort 2 and finally got my hardcore kill last night! I've noticed a lot of mods and hacks on it recently though. Super high and slow jumps that turn it into wirefighting matches, antlions, and green spies with dumpsters for heads. We played on the half life 2 map with the crane on Sunday and it was pretty awesome. Im happy to keep waiting as the base game is still fun to me. My guess is you will see the new content in a new orange box instead of a download.

For those of you who are serious, here are Valve's own stats from each map, complete with color coded death maps, just fucking look:

Thanks for the link Jose. I was just thinking about this in my math class! lol. You saved me a google search.

I used Steam statistics for a college report I half assed. Still got a B!
Shadow Hog @ Jun 16th 2009 8:52PM
Incidentally, they also broke the model browser. It crashes Hammer every time you take a look to see what model you want your prop_statics and _dynamics and so on to be.
gj, Valve
Gibbeynater @ Jun 16th 2009 9:05PM
Ahh, I wouldn't know, I uninstalled it after they brought back milestones and I got my new items. Nice thing Valve did, lowering the milestone requirements.
Meta @ Jun 16th 2009 9:41PM
All the maps have been unofficially available for modding since before the sdk was released with vmex. http://www.geocities.com/cofrdrbob/vmex.html
:)
karmaghost @ Jun 16th 2009 11:26PM
Except for 2Fort, that map sucks.
And the last point on the 2nd section of Dustbowl, which also needs tweaking.
David @ Jun 17th 2009 9:43AM
Goldrush, Dustbowl, and probaly Badlands are the best maps on TF2 in my opinion. 2Fort is good too, but its a bit linear.
David @ Jun 17th 2009 9:44AM
They should do some tweakings with the 2Fort map, and they should also add more quality maps.
Deano @ Jun 17th 2009 2:09PM
where do you find the premade maps?
