Look, there`s a soldier with glasses on. Nerds everywhere, now you have no reason to not join the army.
Warlord @ Jun 16th 2009 5:34PM
not realy
Erluti @ Jun 16th 2009 5:34PM
Why do 2/3 of them wear glasses?
What are the statistics on soldiers wearing glasses?
Anonymous @ Jun 16th 2009 5:36PM
my ass
Tyler @ Jun 16th 2009 5:38PM
I'm sure a lot soldiers have to get glasses after their physical in order to proceed with their service.
Bobby S. @ Jun 16th 2009 6:53PM
I've seen a lot of pictures of soldiers wearing either glasses or goggles.
It makes sense to protect your eye from debris, small fragments, and dust.

Could those character models look any more awkward in fatigues?
reagan @ Jun 16th 2009 5:40PM
Anyone else thing that this is just a way for the good ol US of A to recruit people into the military?
I mean, think about it. Its our tax dollars, and since it's F2P, it is accessible for even the poorest families, as long as hey have internet. Considering America has blatantly said that they focus recruitment on lower class people, It should be obvious.
Kids see this and they think "Oh, Cool! I can shoot terrorists and bad guys!" when really, it portrays real life soldiers as "respawnable" and embeds a small amount of paranoia into us, as we think that there are terrorists and bad guys everywhere.
Plus, the other americas army games were over run by little kids and I'm sure this one is to.
I'm not a big fan of the gameplay in AA either.
SilverFireshot @ Jun 16th 2009 5:44PM
They make no secret that this is a recruitment tool. There are even arcade versions in recruitment centers now.
TrojanGuy @ Jun 16th 2009 6:07PM
That's the whole purpose of the AA games. They've never tried to hide that fact.
This_Time @ Jun 16th 2009 6:33PM
I've heard this argument before, and I'm not buying it. It's like saying Gmail is a form of recruitment for Google. While some people's interest in the designer may be piqued thanks to their product, calling it "just a way for the good ol US of A to recruit people into the military" is a bit of an overstatement.

Reagan: Although you haven't uncovered any "super secret mystery," there are still valid points in your post, so I hear you, bro. I don't like the targeting of this game, never have. It's brilliant, actually. in a 'Don King' sort of way, I mean.
Arkitekt @ Jun 16th 2009 10:57PM
Have you even every played AA? ever? you don't respawn.. you are dead until the round is over. As well there are actually informational areas to the game..
Any game that can teach a kid enough first aid to save someone's life has got my backing.

Here's another link for the same story: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2008/01/americas-army-t/
Also this game was created to be a recruitment tool. It was/is its main development purpose.
F1: Basu Gasu Bakuhatsu @ Jun 16th 2009 5:41PM
suddenly I want to join the army...
BananaBoat @ Jun 16th 2009 8:21PM
Let's enlist togayther!
Oh crap...they won't notice that Freudian slip will they?
zaglis @ Jun 16th 2009 5:53PM
Save your gigabytes! -Its a big pile of technical mess. Stay away! (Ya, its free but this might be the worst free game ever made. IMO)
bluenocturnex @ Jun 16th 2009 5:57PM
It will brainwash you.
mars @ Jun 16th 2009 5:57PM
I just hope they don't start making console versions and give them away. that is where I draw the line on recruitment. when a parents sees "Free Game!" and gives it to their kids
sp23hagbard5 @ Jun 16th 2009 6:49PM
they made a xbox version of the first one, but it had a 45€ pricetag....and sucked
David @ Jun 16th 2009 6:02PM
Lol, you guys pay taxes to pay for developments of games
nmorris @ Jun 16th 2009 6:44PM
I want to see a tax-payer developed FPS in Canada called Canadian Army. The game would consist of rowing a canoe to stop children from crossing the drop off line of a lake in a national park, and every soldier would be equipped with a pea-shooter.
sp23hagbard5 @ Jun 16th 2009 6:49PM
sounds like fun
reagan @ Jun 16th 2009 6:51PM
Oh yea.
West @ Jun 16th 2009 7:09PM
Didn't they call that Halo 2? I distinctly remember crossing a river or a lake and a very underpowered pistol. Eh, ODST will be better!
Ted @ Jun 16th 2009 6:58PM
Get it from Steam, which has Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud support.
CubeGuy @ Jun 16th 2009 7:11PM
There was a second one?
Stochinblockin @ Jun 16th 2009 7:55PM
At least with AA3 I can see where PART of my taxpayer money went. I'm still waiting on this so-called "stimulus" money to surface.
Arkitekt @ Jun 16th 2009 10:52PM
Just wanted to inform some that asked, those glasses are not necessarily the same glasses that civilians wear. Most military personnel that are in a combat environment wear ballistic glasses, the person in the front in the picture above is wearing them, the second one in is probably wearing ballistic prescription glasses.
SuperA187 @ Jun 16th 2009 11:07PM
America, fuck yeah!
iceykitsune @ Jun 17th 2009 2:19AM
The deploy client must go, It is slow as molasses in winter!
Video Games Blog @ Jun 17th 2009 12:50PM
The comments here are ignorant. Bunch of ignorant kids mouthing off while real life soldiers are deployed in the most dangerous area in the world - some who want to be there and others who don't.
Yeah AA is OBVIOUSLY a recruitment tool, there's no denying that. There's also nothing wrong with joining the armed forces. Some of you little shits could probably benefit from it.
