According to a number of reports from North American purchasers of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, the highly anticipated film-to-game adaptation is more than capable of crossing the stream known as the Atlantic Ocean. Yes, players are claiming that the Xbox 360 version of the title isn't region-locked, and can be played on consoles worldwide -- even in Europe, where Sony recently scored the publishing rights for the title, turning it into a PS3 exclusive.
In other words, for Europe's import-savvy 360 owners, the chance to digitally don a proton pack is just one transatlantic cargo plane journey away.

oh its people up there making a big deal out of it....the fact of the matter is that its not region locked and can be imported. Ok but we have been doing that for years now and I will most likely do it for a much BIGGER game(FF13) so I dont have wait a whole 6+ months for a US release. Its not a big deal at all other than a 360 game isnt region locked

And how many people does this affect? Like 7?
I really don't understand the big deal about region locking. Sure, it's a lame restriction that producers use to keep control over sales in different countries, but how many people routinely pick up foreign games to play at home?
The only time it matters is if one region gets a game before another, and you happen to be able to speak the language the foreign games are in. Otherwise you're just waiting a week or two. BFD.

can you understand Japanese?
or will the Jap version of FF13 have Eng subs?
if not, then importing is a bit silly imo.
you basically ruin the experience for when you get the Eng version (you know whats gonna happen).
plus there's the whole language barrier thing - learning through trial & error, how to play & what to do.
if it had Eng audio, i'd import it - but not if it just has Eng subs - i'd wanna watch the video, not focus on reading the text.

can I read Japanese?? nah...but I've been seriously learning to understand it from the TONS of Anime I have watched over the years. Seriously thinking about getting Rosetta Stone for Japanese so I CAN learn it. I mean I know more than a few people that ordered the Advent Children Bluray from Japan just to get their hands on the demo. I think some people would be surprised just how many people import games for the PS3 in numerous regions

Yeah, Chris is a troll. The dood replies to so many comments it's not even funny. I tell him post once and move on.
Wait for his reply however. "I have both Xbox 360 and PS3, spending $600 on a console is no big deal for me.... the 120GB HDD is a rip off"

Welcome to last week.
This has been confirmed for awhile now. Long enough for me to order and get delivered from the US to the UK.
Secondly, it was never an exclusive. Atari are strapped for cash therefore decided not to do a European release until October and purely do a US release now. This makes things easier for them with regard to cash flow on two fronts, firstly its not a huge hit all at once and secondly, it means they have a game release in Q3.
Sony are backing everything Ghostbusers atm because its the 25th Anniversity of the films. They therefore picked up the distrubution rights to the game in europe.
They then decided to only distrubute it in europe to sony products and Atari would do their planned launch on all other formats in October.
So in short, Sony never had any arrangement for exclusive platform rights with Atari. Just distrubution.

Region locking is bad enough but how many North American readers are aware that Sony prevent Play-Asia from seling PSP & PS3 imports to the UK & other European countries. They closed down Lik-sang a while back and threatened other import stores with fines and legal action. All this despite the fact that import gamers are those who buy the most games!!!! Oh, and lets not fight over Ghostbusters.....Lol.

Yeah cos no other 360 game is region free at all, this is the first RF game us 360 users have ever had. oh how we envy you ps3 owners with your region free games (SARCASM!!). pretty sure ms leaves it up to the dev whether region free or not.
plus ( for the fboys) we get the exclusive "not total blur" edition of the game, which apparently is not available on ps3 :D But we probably miss out on the "extremely long and frequent load times" feature that im sure will be available for every ps3 user.

The developer was lazy, idiot. Has nothing to do with the box you're playing it on. My god, I swear 95% of the people here are pre-schoolers. About the only people here anymore on this site with half a mind are Chris D, Alistair, Rhamsey, Naeem, and Storm Eagle.

Hmm... My opinion? I've already mentioned this before as far as the Ghostbusters deal. What doesn't shock me is that this is news to Joystiq. Figures 1) They'd take such pride and joy in insulting Sony, sinse they want to make sweet, sweet love to Xbox 360, though they should be careful, that disc drive could slice something off. But 2) They just barely discoevered this? Where have you been and 3) Joystiq better be be careful, cause someone knows something on the inside that could seriously hurt them.
Anyway, moving on, Sony just needs to write Atari off altogether. They don't really make anything worth playing anymore anyway. So they can let Microsoft have all Atari's worthless crap. I would. Its GREAT BUSINESS! Ta shed someone that would just assume stab ya in the back. There's a saying... Well, two actually. Write them off Sony 'Cause Busineth, is Busineth!" and two I quote Bill (William) Gates "A true artist doesn't create, he steals." Microsoft has always been a bunch of cheating, lying, thieving backstabbers. If consumers want to be dumb enough to let Microsoft stick them, then they can feel the pain. They're cocky "We're pleased to see so many of these news games (Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Tekken, Grand Theft Auto) on Xbox 360." - E3 2008 Clearly picking at Sony, they haven't started on Nintendo, yet. They're Coneiving "Now, Atari, we've just looked at the numbersm and if Sony pulls this off, we're gonna hurt. Honestly, we had no idea this game was gonna do this good and have this much hype. I flabberghast. So, could you just... I know its difficult, sinse we've never done this before, but could there be no reigon lock on Ghostbusters. We'll pay. Ask and we'll give it to you. We'll just lay off more of our staff to make up the difference. It won't hurt em. The economy is tough, but they'll land on their feet. So can ya do it? Honestly, we didn't see this coming. Sony somehow knows a good game when they see it, and we've just been picking up crap! I don't know how they do it, but this is all we can do to combat their insanely well though out and execuited business decisions." and three, that they're really that stupid. "Kojima-San ('San' is a suck up word) we're excited to witness Solid Snakes next mission on Xbox 360." Kojima looks at him with the look of 'Dumb-ass' replying "Wait, I never said anything about Solid Snake." Did I mention he'd made it sound like Metal Gear was coming to the Xbox for the first time? No! This is business stratagy for gamers who are mindless sheep and cant research or are just picking up Metal Gear or a controller for the first time. MICROSOFT LIED TO YOU! Metal Gear Solid 2: Guns of the Patriots was on Xbox. Kojima developed for the Xbox AND HATED IT! Metal Gear Rising is a means to make more money! He even stated Raidens game would be different than Metal Gear and that Metal Gear: Peace Walker EXCLUSIVELY for a PlayStation platform was the Metal Gear Solid 5. 360 owners are getting something to pacify them. To shut them up!

Erm....Ghostbuster on the PS3 is exactly the same game as the one on the 360. Development is done by Atari. The only difference in Europe is that Sony have distrubution rights until October while Atari are doing cross platform in the US.
And why the hell are you going on about MGS and Konami. Its not related to the story and most of your logic is based on opinion not fact regardless of which fanboy camp you sit in.
Seriously, either grow up (I assume you're like 14 or something) or go find a board to troll on.

My bad. I just thought I'd see how many 360 fans would snap at that. I'm human. I make mistakes. You can judge me, but you're only shooting yourself in the foot for being human too. I means, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty... Why? Oh, cause just like that didn't make sense, Metal Gear Solid 4 on the 360 doesn't make sense. Why build a new engine? Cause the Xbox 360 can't handle the one developed on the PlayStation 3 I quote Valve this time and their lazy staff that (Whining) "Its just to (sniff, sniff) difficult to develop for the PlayStation 3. (Pouts and wimpers a little)" Kojima mentioned that a new and better engine was in development, but I guess everyone fell for that one too. True, Metal Gear Rising is on the PlayStation 3, and I love Metal Gear just as much as everyone else, but only a blind idiot would miss the fact that, Kojima's gonna say whatever he's got to, to sell his game. he doesn't want to make 360 fans feel like their inferior, cause he's gotta convince them to pay him! But, notice that even though Microsoft gets a Metal Gear game, ITS CROSS PLATFORM and HE'S FOLLOWING UP DIRECTLY WITH ANOTHER PLAYSTATION EXCLUSIVE!
