CLAMP designing costumes for Tekken 6, anime fan girls squee
Tekken 6 continues to get more bizarre. Famed all-female mangaka group CLAMP (known for Cardcaptor Sakura, X/1999, xxxHolic, Code Geass) is designing new costume designs for Namco Bandai's upcoming fighter. Here, we see Jin wearing a wardrobe that would fit perfectly in CLAMP's Tsubasa Chronicle.
Obviously, the addition of one of the most popular shoujo groups in Japan is meant to increase Tekken's appeal beyond male gamers. In fact, the high-pitched ringing you may be hearing right now is the sound of thousands of anime fan girls squeeing in unison whilst holding onto Kero-chan plushies.

Tekken 6 miniature doll fighting mode CONFIRMED!
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 17th 2009 10:41PM
and here comes the Yaoi....
Arrowned @ Jun 17th 2009 11:02PM
You act as if fangirls hadn't ALREADY written Tekken yaoi.
Izeas GT @ Jun 17th 2009 11:15PM
There's ALWAYS yaoi. I think it's a corollary to Rule 34.
P @ Jun 17th 2009 11:21PM
What is Yaoi and why do fangirls write it? And please, don't LMGT4U.

TEST COMMENT
Familyguyrokz @ Jun 18th 2009 12:08AM
@Izeas GT
Try watching shows with an all female cast. I've never seen yaoi involving Strike Witches, Lucky Star or K-ON! Feels good.
Izeas GT @ Jun 18th 2009 12:25AM
All right, they're the exception. Unless somebody does a gender-flip.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 18th 2009 1:13AM
or do what I do, watch the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and in between having your insanity slowly kill itself imagine what it would be like to have sex with god
P @ Jun 18th 2009 1:29AM
That doesn't answer the question of why fangirls write it.
Thanks for the link.
Izeas GT @ Jun 17th 2009 10:42PM
Technically, that's "Tsubasa RESERVOIR Chronicle."
For non-anime fans, they did the character designs for Sunrise's alternate-history mecha series Code Geass, too. I wonder if they're intentionally expanding into contract work.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 17th 2009 10:50PM
basically, they popularized drawing peoples heads in the shapes of turnips
waynski1457 @ Jun 17th 2009 11:22PM
And bodies like overextended stick figures.
Olicon @ Jun 17th 2009 11:40PM
What I never understand is how CCS manage to go from ultimate shojo manga to shonen anime (and dare I say with the best action scenes for the next couple of years)?
Tracy @ Jun 29th 2009 4:54PM
You look like a good person to ask.........What sort of promo items do you think would fans like for Tekken 6 launch? Something rather inexpensive but unique and useful?
Any ideas?
LameDuck @ Jun 17th 2009 10:45PM
Chi in a fighting game? Thats hot.
Rocketboy @ Jun 17th 2009 11:37PM
Yes, but she'd have the dumbest ending ever.
Totally ignoring there there's other fun parts of her robo body that don't have swtiches embeded in them.
Izeas GT @ Jun 18th 2009 12:31AM
Seriously, who builds an anatomically correct sentient gynoid capable of love and puts its memory-wiping reset switch THERE instead of, say, inside the ear thingies, with a button that needs to be held down with a pen for five seconds?
LameDuck @ Jun 18th 2009 3:36AM
Well... In the anime, it's suggested that she can. I think it happens in the pornstar arch. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the perv starts to tip her bits then Freya comes in and says something like, "Only the one just for Chi can touch you here." then later on, Chi puts Hideki's hand thar and says "Only the one just for Chi can come inside."
In the manga... I don't know... They say he can't, then they hint that she has a special ability. I would say that special ability is the program that gives Persicoms the ability to "feel", but in context I would think it's something else more relationship oriented.
I want a persicom. :D
rushtodeath @ Jun 18th 2009 6:51AM
Just stick it in her pooper!
Rocketboy @ Jun 18th 2009 9:07AM
MY POINT EXACTLY. She's got 3 inputs. Only one is off limits. Geesh.
Hell, she still has hands.
LameDuck @ Jun 18th 2009 11:54AM
@rushtodeath: I like the way you think.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jun 17th 2009 10:56PM
They should fix the juggling system instead. If someone gets you into one or two juggling combos there's really nothing you can do...GAME OVER. It's just annyoing, i want a good clean fight damnit!
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jun 17th 2009 10:57PM
I'm of course referring to the online matches here, I don't give a "%¤ about these silly costumes. ;)
bokakatech @ Jun 17th 2009 11:15PM
"noob detected"
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jun 17th 2009 11:27PM
What's your psn name? I'd love to kick your ass sometime :D
Tim @ Jun 17th 2009 11:23PM
I'll take this as a sign that Namco Bandai will make an arcade DBZ game, seeing how Tekken 6 is now SOLD OUT to FANGirlS.
Crayfish @ Jun 17th 2009 11:30PM
As well as costume will they provide alternate models where everyone has noodle proportioned limbs?
antftw @ Jun 17th 2009 11:30PM
I love Code Geass, this is great news.
devilsei @ Jun 18th 2009 2:29AM
Heh, gotta agree, some of the stuff in Code Geass looked great, specially Zero's costume, and Collen's fight suit wasn't too bad either.
xGearSecondx @ Jun 18th 2009 7:50AM
I wish I had Geass... :(
devilsei @ Jun 18th 2009 3:42PM
Heh, you wouldn't want me to have Geass, either Lelouche's or Rolo's...
Either giving me the ability to manipulate and control someone, even though I can use it only once on a person, or the ability to slow everyone's perception of time, would be dangerous with me :D
Crazylink @ Jun 17th 2009 11:36PM
Let's see just how FABULOUS the costumes can be.
Cicadymn @ Jun 17th 2009 11:48PM
CLAMP desinging costumes for Tekken 6...
and there gonna be FAAAAABUULOUSSSSSSS
Familyguyrokz @ Jun 18th 2009 12:02AM
Hearing high pitched squeals? I'm hearing something different. It's kind of muffled, but it still sounds very angry. It sounds something like: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Justin @ Jun 18th 2009 12:05AM
Man, I must be getting old since half that article didn't make sense to me. A list of terms I was completely unfamiliar with:
CLAMP
mangaka
Cardcaptor Sakura
X/1999
xxxHolic
Code Geass
Tsubasa Chronicle
shoujo
Kero-chan
And since it was mentioned in the comments, I should add that I have no idea what 'yaoi' is either.
So, do you have to be living in Japan (or madly in love with the country) to understand this post?
Jack Hollow @ Jun 18th 2009 12:17AM
Good sir, CLAMP is one of the best manga artists (mangaka) to exist. They've been around for 22 years. Rather than bore everyone with their history, I'll simply post a link to their Wiki for those who are interested.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clamp_(manga_artists)
X/1999 and xxxHOLiC are some of the best CLAMP works.
Izeas GT @ Jun 18th 2009 12:23AM
Manga-ka: someone who writes/draws manga.
CLAMP: a group of four women who've made some very popular manga.
Cardcaptor Sakura, X/1999, xxxHolic, Tsubasa: some of CLAMP's better-known manga, which also include Magic Knight Rayearth, Chobits, Angelic Layer, and Tokyo Babylon. They're popular in America, too, just go into a bookstore.
Shoujo: Japanese for "girl." In an English context, usually refers to "shoujo manga," or "girls' comics." A lot of CLAMP's stuff is this.
Kero-chan: the mascot character from Cardcaptor Sakura.
Yaoi: ...you know what? No. Google this one yourself.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 18th 2009 12:48AM
CLAMP: artists who draw stick figures, then add noodle arms/legs and turnip heads. They tend make all the males ridiculous pretty boys. Think Sephiroth and Cloud times 9000
mangaka: manga artists
Cardcaptor Sakura: manga
X/1999:manga
xxxHolic:manga
Code Geass: animu that became manga
Tsubasa Chronicle:manga
Shoujo: girls manga. Shounen would be boys manga
Kero-chan: mascot for Cardcaptor Sakura
Yaoi: http://rule34.paheal.net/post/view/296625?search=Miles_Edgeworth
Mr.Happy @ Jun 18th 2009 12:10AM
Freaking sweet, Code Geass is awesome.
tyetheczar @ Jun 18th 2009 12:11AM
And for the female characters: Chobits-inspired costumes. Either that, or C.C.'s signature outfit. Viva la Pizza Butt!
-Vexx- @ Jun 18th 2009 12:11AM
Sweet.
Lelouch dies.
Again
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 18th 2009 12:49AM
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
just kidding, I saw the ending and I must say: Way better than Death Notes and a hell of a lot better than Evangelions (yes, all 20 of them)
Cloud_ST @ Jun 18th 2009 2:14AM
You asshole...
xGearSecondx @ Jun 18th 2009 7:50AM
ALL HAIL BRITANIA!!!
Cosmo @ Jun 18th 2009 12:45AM
That costume is awesome.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 18th 2009 12:53AM
it probably took them 5 minutes to make, since they basically copied Lelouch's emperor outfit and added some red to it
Jack Hollow @ Jun 18th 2009 1:09AM
@Chad
You my friend need to go through their entire library of work you'll see that their art takes more than 5 minutes to create. And I'm not merely referring to this post, you've continually taken stabs at CLAMP your comments on this story.
I do not wish to start an argument, I simply suggest you look into their work and not judge them on character design alone. Though I do think they have some excellent character designs, their environment backgrounds are visually stunning as well.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 18th 2009 1:33AM
I actually like CLAMPs design. But the facts remain:
1.Most of the males are pretty boys
COUGHCOUGHLELOUCHCOUGHCOUGH
COUGHSPINZAKUCOUGH
COUGHSCHNEIZELCOUGHCOUGHCOUGH
2. The characters limbs are noodles and their heads are turnips

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7a/Cgr20212-1-.jpg
3. If you take the outfit Jin has on, replace the red with gold and blue, you essentially have Lelouch's emperor outfit

Jack Hollow @ Jun 18th 2009 1:55AM
I agree with all your points Mr. Chad. I still like many of their character designs though, regardless of their noodle like limbs and vegetable shaped craniums and pretty boy good looks. Their work is meant for a female audience after all, though doesn't mean I myself can't enjoy their stories and art. I sure hope they finish Legal Drug one of these days.
