In-Stat, a market analysis group, published a report this week which takes a look at how online video-to-television streaming is putting pressure on traditional cable providers and will eventually restructure "today's video distribution ecosystem." As noted by In-Stat, gaming consoles are at the forefront of this new direction, leading in web-based video streaming and beating other devices like digital media adapters, set top boxes (Apple TV), Blu-ray players, web-connected HDTVs and even PC media-centers.
Indeed, current gen consoles hold many advantages over the competition, seeing as they're relatively inexpensive and serve multiple purposes. The Xbox 360 has supported Netflix streaming since late last year, and both PS3 and Wii feature internet browsers (additionally, the PS3 allows for YouTube uploads on some software). In-Stat claims 29% of US console owners between the ages of 25 and 34 currently use their consoles to stream video to their televisions.
In-Stat expects consoles to stay as the top device for at least the next five years. As long as people know they can still stream pr0n on their consoles, we're sure it will.

Well they're gonna do it in the UK, so the option for people to get it elsewhere is very realistic.

The "watch instantly" collection on Netflix has some gems, mostly on the TV show side, but movies are a big stink. Mostly 80s and early 90s stuff. I get that studios want us to buy the same content over and over again, but Netflix really needs to get studios to put more movie and TV show content on there before it'll be possible to drop cable (permanently).
And those that say that Hulu + Netflix will let you ditch cable, I say "More power to ya!" But the experience you get browsing a website isn't really the same as the TV I want to enjoy (where you have to watch it X number of days before/after it airs or it's gone as well as the ridiculously low quality).

Oh Hell, every since they added this feature to the 360 I have to battle with my wife to actually play games. Since Oct the SexBox360 has been more a video service than a game machine. On other hand, she approves of the game console like never before.

Season 1 of The Office wasn't as good as the others, however...

You should watch the brittish version of the Office, you can find that on Netflix as well. It's arguably alot better.

Well, I personalyl don't like the American version too much. It's a bit over-the-top. The English version is a bit more credible, you "believe" more in the characters. It's a different kind of comedy, really. Ricky Gervais is perfect as the boss that everyone just loves to hate. A real dickhead of a boss that thinks he's awesome.
I don't know, if you have Netflix, check it out. Nothing to lose I'd say.
Also, on a side-note, check out Fawlty Towers (with John Cleese), one of the best british comedy's ever made.

We have enough problems here with console flame wars, and you want to start the British vs American Office one? Come on, man. I love ‘em both.

Netflix and Giganews = win.
Cable television is completely inferior. That's only pathetic because it's completely unnecessary. The cable companies and movie/television studios could fix it if they gave a damn about their customers.

I absolutely agree! With cable:
- You have to follow their schedule or rent/buy an expensive PVR.
- You can't look up and watch previous episodes. What do you do if you miss an episode, or are recommended a series after it has aired?
- You have to pay for channels that you don't watch because channels are arranged in tiers.
- You pay the cable company, but very little of your money actually goes towards the specific channels that you watch, and less still to the specific shows that you watch.
