live is worth paying for, especially if the permanent price becomes 30 dollars (what i payed for it)...but its the ps3 people thats always complaining about it or undercover fanboys acting like they have an xbox..

I'm going to disagree with you. PS3 owners, like myself, are able to comprehend that Xbox Live (Gold) is worth paying for if and only if an Xbox 360 is all you have in terms of a home entertainment system. If you love playing your games online, then of COURSE you will pay for Live. It's a no brainer.

However, what people really want with their online gaming experience is being able to just get in a match and play for an hour or so. When the Playstation 3 version of CoD 4: Modern Warfare, GTA IV, Rock Band, World at War, etc; are exactly the same online as the Xbox 360 version, then it is more difficult to justify a price tag on a service that is equal* to PSN or not as simple and clean as, let's say, Steam. A lot of people seem to believe that just because it's through XBL that it runs magically better on the same DSL connection as the PS3 or PC.

You're entitled to your own opinion just as I am (I've just shown you) but I'd rather not pay for a service that should be free in the first place, and without paying secondary fees to 'unlock' content on something I already paid for.

One of the selling points why I bought the PS3

Baby's crying because of a PS3 conspiracy? :(

At the most you should be crying for having to pay for a service that should be free in the first place. At the end of this console generation 360 owners will have spent much more money than PS3 owners. Ironic, since that's one the reasons you keep whining about the PS3.

I don't get what the big deal is but I think this is a pretty good deal. Yeah, it's a little annoying to call and cancel (though it does seem like you can cancel online) but it's still worth the trouble. I think I'm going to try to do it before the deal ends. The less than $40 for 13 months on Amazon does sound like a good deal though.

Where is the "you've been a gold member for years" love?

Gold member love?? Oh if only. They've had our money and subscriptions, they know we're good for another 12 months....

Why should they reward us for shelling out the cash year after year (after year!)?

They want Silver Members and their soon-to-be a few pounds/dollars/designated monetary system lighter wallets/purses/manbags!

On a plus note, 30% off Operation Anchorage for Gold Members on the dash last night. 30% off is better than a kick in the bollocks and I was going to download it anyway. Happy with that. Although %100 off would have been nicer.

Pete, I hate having a Gamerscore that ends in anything that's not 0 or 5. I had to promise myself I would get both the Two Points and Vortigaunt Cave Achievements when I played HL2.

you gotta call and go thru shit to get it canceled......and even after telling them to cancel it they STILL try to rebill your card. Luckily for me I read up on that and I just canceled my Visa Check Card and got another one. They tried to rebill it for 3 months after I canceled and during that time I couldnt connect to XBL to buy games or anything....they are Worse than AOL was back in the day, switching you to 2 or 3 people before canceling shit...

I hated aol for that but they would always give me 2 months free everytime i tried to cancel.

www.xbox.com/live/accounts

there is an option to cancel your Live account on the link above. They even let you remove your credit card from your account as long as there isnt a subscription service like zune pass or live associated with it.

Warning...the site is very slow today

Even at $12 per year, it still would be too much. I've lived just fine with my silver account for the past three years, and my PS3 lets me play online for free.

0$ is the only amount I'm willing to pay for a game service.

@ ESC

You live outside the US? That can also be the answer to why your downloads on PSN might be slow. As for Burnout Paradise yea it took me 45 min to download ALL the patches but that is because the game came out with so many updates for example the bikes, cars, island, etc. and if you didnt have the previous updates PSN downloads them all one by one. PSN is super fast for me and I live in NYC. It's not amazing with alot of features but it gets the job done which is letting me talk to my friends and play games online with them. Anything else imo is a bonus.

I once wanted to cancel my account cause I was going to work at a summer camp for 3 months. The guy I was talking to was like, "And there's no one else that would want to use your gold account while you're away?" and I was like... "What?"

Eh. I prefer Live, because it feels more "integrated" into the whole console. Plus I was a Netflix subscriber before that whole deal came in, so that's a solid benefit. I never pay retail price for Live, unless I'm getting a new piece of hardware with it that I wanted to make the price worthwhile.

I'm not going to say the PSN system is shit. My experience with it is fairly limited, even. But I don't feel like it's the worst thing ever to pay $2.50 a month for that online service.

Anyway, I mostly use it because my friends have 360s, and there are not many PS3s amongst them.

My Gold is about to expire and I have to go through the annoying process of calling them to not automatically charge me for a whole year again. Where can I get those xbox live cards instead?
