Modern Warfare 2 receiving collector's edition (and that's all we know!)

We contacted Infinity Ward's community guy Robert Bowling (aka Fourzerotwo), who told us he's waiting to have the first physical copy of the collector's edition sent for a quality check, after which he'll make an unboxing video for the community. At that point, the company will have promotional pictures and update online retailers.

Know what? For the first time this gen, I am truly uninterested in any special editions.
Because I lost a bet, I spent this past Holiday season having to skip over every special edition released. And you know what? I actually wound up buying and playing a lot more games.
Looking back at it, I really question myself why on Earth I ever got excited about a special edition in the first place. Almost all of them fit into one of two categories: over priced, or worthless crap. Come to think about it, the only CE released so far that was neither, was when BioShock came with that big-ass, Big Daddy figurine. Large/heavy enough to be a bookend, and it only cost a measly $10 (free if you got it under the Gamestop promo for pre-ordering it six months early). See, not totally worthless and it was not over priced.
Either way, after having to abstain from CEs last fall, I've come to the conclusion, that I'd rather not any longer, and just spend the money on more games instead.
Besides, everyone knows these CEs will just wind up for half price (or less) on Amazon.com a few months later. Like last month when Amazon was selling the Fallout 3 CE for around $30.
If that is going to happen to every CE, and it seems to be that way, you are better off getting a Gamefly account, renting games with CEs when they come out, and picking up the whole CE a few months later for half price (or less).

I kind of agree, Swagman... Ever since I bought Halo 3 Limited Edition, I've been kind of like "Eh...". First off there was the problem with the cases ruining the discs. I still can't use the case because it will crack the disc. I got the Fable 2 LE and wondered what I spent my extra money on... The bonus disc seemed half-assed, as opposed to the Halo 3 bonus disc that I really enjoyed. I got GTA IV LE as a birthday gift, and I ended up pulling the game out, shoving the rest of the stuff back in the lock box and putting it in my closet.
There is one LE I really liked, though. Halo Wars LE came with that beautiful case... It's no larger than the standard plastic case and it is incredibly high quality. The artwork on it is just beautiful. I just stared at the box when I first got it. The graphic novel was cool, and the Halo 3 DLC was an awesome bonus. It's pretty much the only LE I bought that I have never been like "Damn... Maybe that extra $10 wasn't worth it..."

For an extra $20, my collector's edition better come with a lapdance and not some crappy ass making of video or some purty golden weapon that I could care less about.

if you're the type who doesn't play online, then a golden weapon is pointless, but if you play online only, then the golden gun is a major bragging right. assuming they took out cage match and you can't get it from unlocks...

they should include an exclusive weapon, early access to a weapon, a ballistics knife (shoots the blade), and triple XP for the first month of online.

So far I've bought only 3 collectors edition games (RE5, Gears 2, and Demigod).
and so far .... I don't feel any happier lol.
Guess I go nuts for cheaply made 6" figures of uber manly Chris and the Rook. Metal game cases are pretty nice to have.
One thing to Activision (that should have been said to Epic) ...

I feel like such a nerd because I pre-ordered it before I knew of anything in it.

The biggest thing for me is the size of the stuff that comes with it... I didn't like that the Halo 3 CE was 3x the size of a normal case. The GTA IV lockbox was cool, but it's just kind of in the way now. Fallout 3 CE was pretty large, too.
I think slim aluminum cases are the way to go... The Halo Wars CE is, by far, the most beautiful CE available. It's not larger than a standard plastic case, and it feels like the extra cash went someplace. Halo 2 CE used a slim case, too, but I've never seen one in person, other than on a friend's shelf.
Anyone ever wonder why a collector's edition game needs to be stripped of all of its beauty? Halo 3 CE was the Halo 3 logo on a blue background. Fable 2 was just a grey case with a good/bad character on it... It's very boring. I always love the box art of the standard editions, but the box art never seems to carry over, except in the case of Halo Wars.

age of empires 3 was the greatest collectors edition of all time. The box is great and the huge artbook is really cool to look at, it cost 10€ more....

some suggestions: i would say a search and destroy bomb case would be cool, but i think they already have the case designed. for all the fat gamers out there, the design would be simple: just the disc, swimming in a crapload of candy. maybe a keychain at the bottom :P.next, a real suggestion, as heard from one of my friends, a golden gun with silencer, red dot, and noob tube.
