Open world meets underwater in new Oblivion, Bioshock bundle [update]

Bethesda, proprietor of large, navigable worlds both post-apocalyptic and, uh, pre-apocalyptic, has teamed up with 2K Games to offer a gaming bundle not seen since the days of the original Xbox, when you could get Jet Set Radio and Sega GT together in one convenient package. 2K and Bethesda are bundling Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Bioshock together for Xbox 360 and Windows PC, for $39.99 and $29.99, respectively, starting July 7.
The press release was unclear on which version of Oblivion this is (Game of the Year edition?), so we've sent word for a comment regarding that.

InFaMoUs1- @ Jun 17th 2009 3:43PM
lol the PS3 version would be on one bluray
McWilly @ Jun 17th 2009 4:07PM
Why did you get get down rated. He's probably right.
LaughingTarget @ Jun 17th 2009 4:09PM
Probably because it was completely irrelevant.
Robin @ Jun 17th 2009 4:12PM
The bundle isn't coming to the PS3 because 2K didn't co-publish Oblivion on the PS3 (they did on the PC/360 versions). We confirmed w/ Bethesda. :)

@InFaMoUs1-
Christ almighty shut the fuck up! Look I know the PS3 is a good system but god damn it your comments are completely stupid and the exact reason fanboys deserve to be called nothing less than retarded.
Sly [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 17th 2009 5:54PM
tep, i think you meant longhorn or marius or whatever the fuck he calls himself now. he's worse than infamous...
Hydrophobicfish @ Jun 17th 2009 3:47PM
I see absolutely no reason left for anyone to not pick up either of these games.
Bioshock is one of the greatest games ever, and Oblivion is pretty darned good too.
If you don't have either of these games, well... start saving your change from Taco Bell so you can get this bundle next month.
Brodo @ Jun 17th 2009 4:03PM
I didnt enjoy bioshock very much. I found it to be very repetitive and overrated.
The final boss was probably the easiest thing ever too.
eddienoteddy @ Jun 17th 2009 3:39PM
Bioshock new = $20
Oblivion new =$30
so we're talking a savings of $10.
woo hoo?
Orange Box is still the best deal in gaming HISTORY
Einhanderkiller @ Jun 17th 2009 3:45PM
Or if you already picked up BioShock on Steam the two times it was selling for $5, you could pick up The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Deluxe, which includes all the DLC, for $20 on Steam. That's a savings of $25!
Maxathon @ Jun 17th 2009 3:52PM
What is wrong with gamers? Why are you complaining about this, or acting defensive? "My favorite games came in an even better combo package!"

David @ Jun 17th 2009 3:52PM
Or you could visit the piratebay and youll save $40!
Cosmo @ Jun 17th 2009 4:08PM
Don't pirate PC games, let's save this great gaming platform!
LaughingTarget @ Jun 17th 2009 4:10PM
We must hang pirates' computers at the entrance to the Internet as a warning to other pirates.
Andrew Timson @ Jun 17th 2009 4:13PM
This is cheaper than the Orange Box, and doesn't include any components only available in the bundle. This is a worse deal... _how_?
Sly [PSN SniperChameleon] @ Jun 17th 2009 5:55PM
i got the orange box for $5 off of steam :D
great deal.
Preston @ Jun 17th 2009 3:40PM
This would be a decent deal If I didn't already have Bioshock.
vidGuy @ Jun 17th 2009 3:42PM
Cool, if I didn't own them both already I would be interested.
And this is nitpicky, but whoever did the packaging seemed to put the emphasis on the wrong area. It seems to me a tagline that read "Winners of Over 80 Combined Game of the Year Awards!" would just work better.
Professor Lario @ Jun 17th 2009 3:46PM
Yes, but there were 80 awards in total or combined, not 80 combined awards.
"Buy this now!!" - would also work. : )
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Jun 17th 2009 3:44PM
Cool deal, bro.
Also, as Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] noted...
Where's a PS3 version?
jonjon72 @ Jun 17th 2009 3:46PM
I don't have either so this isn't a bad deal.
Amanda @ Jun 17th 2009 3:47PM
personally both games are great. But I dont see it being a good bundle... Bioshock being an older game. Which im sure most people already own.
Swagman @ Jun 17th 2009 5:06PM
Oblivion came out almost a year and a half before BioShock. You know, MARCH 20, 2006 vs. AUGUST 21, 2007
So you got a bundle with TWO older games. And each only sold around 1.5 million copies each on 360. With over 30 million Xbox 360s in circulation, there are literally tons of people who have not played either game yet - much less both of them.
Babel @ Jun 17th 2009 3:48PM
Unusual yet awesome combination, but I'd be surprised if there were many people who didn't own one or the other.
Still, it'd be great to see more of these.
Swagman @ Jun 17th 2009 5:00PM
Both games only sold around 1.5 million copies on the 360 (don't remember the numbers for PC). So technically with over 30 million Xbox 360s in circulation, and even pre-owned distribution into account, most people still have not played either game yet . . . I'd be willing to so far as to bet, that at least 50% of 360 owners have not played either, much less both.
So it is still a pretty damned good deal for a most people. Well over 100+ hours of gaming, two of the best games this gen, and if Oblivion: GOTY edition is included in the pack, $40 of free DLC, all for the budget price of $40. Now if only they had some snazzy, new box art to help promote this package . . .
LordToastington @ Jun 17th 2009 3:48PM
Bioshock on PS3 came out only last year... I suppose that's why they haven't done a PS3 bundle yet, although it would be quite agreeable.
David @ Jun 17th 2009 3:50PM
Whats the difference being Game of the Year Edition or not?
Locke @ Jun 17th 2009 3:51PM
GoTY edition has the 2 DLC packs on the disc.
Cosmo @ Jun 17th 2009 3:52PM
I believe the Oblivion DLC and expansions will be included, just like Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition is coming in October or November with all the DLC for $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on consoles.
Oblivion was not a Games for Windows title, does this mean they added support for it and also the Xbox 360 controller support?
Angelo @ Jun 17th 2009 3:52PM
The GOTY edition of Oblivion includes the Shivering Isles expansion and most, if not all, the other DLC available for it.
David @ Jun 17th 2009 3:54PM
OK, thanks for telling.
Andrew Timson @ Jun 17th 2009 4:14PM
GOTY has Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. Contrary to other replies, it does *not* have any other DLC.
Rollins @ Jun 17th 2009 4:18PM
@Cosmo
Rollins @ Jun 17th 2009 4:19PM
(Whoops, my bad)
@Cosmo
Take a look at the top of the PC box art - you'll notice that the Games for Windows bar gets cut off. No 360 gamepad support. :( You'd think it would be easy to patch in.
mercy @ Jun 17th 2009 4:36PM
@Andrew,
Does that mean I'll have to buy the horse armor again?
Swagman @ Jun 17th 2009 4:52PM
I hope this is the Game of the Year Edition, that would be even more awesome. Combined, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine (the two expansion paks included in the GOTY version) are $40 worth of DLC.
Considering this bundle for two of the best games this generation is only $40, it would be like getting all of that DLC for free.
Amanda @ Jun 17th 2009 3:52PM
the game of the year edition has some more content on it...
Tann @ Jun 17th 2009 3:53PM
I think that this is a sign from somewhere telling me to re-buy both of these games..
MetalBLACKFOX @ Jun 17th 2009 3:53PM
oblivions so boring but bioshock was good..
Swagman @ Jun 17th 2009 4:39PM
I used to think the same thing, until I actually put the investment in to get into the game. Oblivion just takes some getting into, but once you do, the pay off is tremendous. Easily one of the best games this gen.
Amanda @ Jun 17th 2009 3:55PM
hahaha oblivion boring?
Petebot330 @ Jun 17th 2009 3:57PM
I that the real box art? Did they spend 5 minutes putting that together? So many design crimes committed there...
Jack Tretton @ Jun 17th 2009 4:07PM
I've been thinking about playing Oblivion again for a third time as I've become nostalgic for the two voice actors.
Storm Eagle @ Jun 17th 2009 4:33PM
C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!!
Maulok @ Jun 17th 2009 5:45PM
Did anyone ever try the Bioshock DLC on PS3? I have Bioshock for PC only and was curious if I was missing out on anything fun.
SEVENim @ Jun 17th 2009 5:49PM
This is a nice combo, but probably one of the most obscure ones considering its from 2 different developers. The Red Steel / No More Heroes combo made more sense because Ubisoft made both of them. Not complaining, just saying its odd.
I thought id see an Oblivion / Fallout 3 combo before id see something like this.
Entity @ Jun 17th 2009 7:24PM
I don't know why, but this somehow reminds me of the candy 'Nerds'

genaldar @ Jun 17th 2009 9:36PM
I love how the author forgot about the Forza 2/Marvel Ultimate Alliance combo deal. Granted it was a pack in with 360s rather than a stand alone product, but its really easy to find used (I got mine at Gamestop a year ago for like $13 with my edge card).
Rogue5 @ Jun 18th 2009 1:46AM
I guess PS3 is left out in the cold again, if this comes with the GOTY edition for oblivion then i will consider getting it for the pc.
