PSA: Xbox Live Marketplace has the hiccups [update: MS responds]

We were a little miffed that we were completely unable to download Rocket Riot from Xbox Live Marketplace this morning. We were slightly more miffed when the download for Magic: The Gathering also failed. When the download for Sam & Max failed, however, we were positively livid. And now, we've received a tip that certain content on XBLM has disappeared entirely, namely Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island DLC. The new Sega Vintage Collection games seem to have vanished as well.

We're not sure what's going on, but we're willing to bet it's got something to do with the Xbox Live maintenance that took place yesterday. We've contacted Microsoft and will update this post as soon as we hear anything more.

[Update: Microsoft has informed Joystiq that it is "aware of an issue affecting a small amount of content on Xbox LIVE Marketplace since the service came back online" and hopes to "resolve the issue soon." We'll update this post again once services return to normal.]

ive been having trouble with xblm for weeks. some of the free themes, gamerpics, even new xbla demos are almost impossible to download.. going into the memory and deleting the failed dls seems to help but its annoying..

I was pumping myself up for Sam and Max as I played hit the road ages ago.

you feel like i did when i got my 1st xbox back, er.. i mean second, doh! 3rd xbox 360 back from RRoD number 2 (2nd failure was an unreadable disc error, that one cost me 50 bucks)

It's amazing how quickly they took my microsoft points this morning when I purchased MTG. Now I'm less ten bucks and still have no game to play. I guess Microsoft not only screwed the pooch, but has now screwed me too!!!

This is bullshit!! I can't even check my 360 repair status because of this "maintenance". The whole online repair is showing unavailable. That's pretty funny considering their online billing works perfectly fine.

call them.. calling 1800 4my xbox (i think thats right) gets a better response than just checking the website.. i called everyday my last two xbox repairs and i got them both back in 2 weeks, first repair took almost a full month..

i doubt they streamlined the process that much so quickly (given their continued problems with updates and the NXE im not surprised).. i tell anyone that gets a 360 repaired to call them regularly, at least it feels like they work faster when im calling..

I called them. The lady basically told me what I already knew. She just said that I would receive an email comfirming that it had been repaired. I guess I need to be patient. :(

You think thats bad?!?!?!? I tried getting Sam and Max this morning, paid 1600 MS points for it, the download would get to 1% and fail....tried again around lunch, same thing....just tried again and I got a message that read I didn't have enough MS points for this purchase. The system which told me earlier that I wouldn't be rebilled for the game is doing just that, rebilling me for the game. Total bullshit! MS owes me 1600 points or the damn game!

I want to thank Joystiq for posts like these. I tried to download MTG today, but it failed. I figured it was because of my crappy Internet connection. I was going to retry later, but then I saw this post first. I figure you guys saved me several hours of frustration trying to mess with my router and XBox settings, etc. So thanks for that and for the updates to the story so I know when it is okay to download again.

I still say f*ck Microsoft. As much as I want to be a 360 fanboy, it's things like this and the fact that I am now on my 6th...did you catch that SIXTH xbox360, that keep me from being so. Now the last thing I want to do is buy a PS3. However, when I pay for a game (yes, I should have tried downloading the trial first, but I didn't) I expect to be able to actually play it the same day.

Just think about this. If you go to Circuit City...no, their bankrupt. If you were to go to Game Stop to pick up a game you have been waiting months to play, you pay your money and wait for the attendant to hand you the game...and wait...and wait....and wait......

Well Double Dragon has been missing from the store for some time now....

I bought a new, bigger HD, and then I noticed I could no longer get the game :(

Yep I just purchased MTG. I was hoping to play and get my code for Garruk but no luck here. Hopefully it'll get resolved soon. Oh well I have inFAMOUS to keep me busy for awhile. Kisses

Same here, no luck actually downloading it.

the garrok password doesnt seem to even exist yet. I tried to get my password and it said it wasn't available cause XBL wasn't conected or whatever.

I also was trying to download GOW2 flashback map pack and didnt work :S

Sweet! You got my tip. Ya, I was pretty pissed that I couldn't download Rocket Riot this morning (I was planning on playing it until iPhone 3.0 got released!). It better be working soon. :)

All of the Sega Vintage titles that were released last week are not even on the marketplace.

Its working now. I got it.

You get what you pay for.

I still got an error when first going to the Sam & Max page in the Marketplace, but after a few seconds of loading, the "grayed out" "Buy for 1600 pts" became "Download Again" and it's actually working now. I am currently @ 50%!

OK - download complete, game working!

Seems like its up and running! just downloaded MTG and its working!
