There's nothing to force feed, because there is no story. Go rescue the princess, go recover the triforce, etc etc.

To say it's on par with a game like Mass Effect is beyond ridiculous, even for a nintendo fanboy like yourself Mr Khan.

You're deliberately portraying their stories as simpler than they are. A little digging yields you a world in their games. Just 'cuz you have to dig a little deeper shouldn't make a difference.

tmac, you said:
"I have to go all the way back to the SNES era for me to remember the last time I played a nintendo game with a meaningful story, and even then it was made by someone like Square Enix."

I think what you meant was:
"I have to go all the way back to the SNES era for me to remember the last time I played a nintendo game."

Dude, wtf? At least remain somewhat reasonable even if you (obviously) don't like Nintendo.

Prime 1 had a fantastic story, not to mention OOT and WW. Paper Mario on the GC had a really funny well done story too - Eternal Darkness comes to mind as well.

I like your posts generally but you're getting a little stupid....

just sayin

People seems to forget one important internal 1st party team that create lots of deep, meaningful, serious story (hell sometime it is the opposite, funny!)...Intelligent System!! They also create the 2d metroid....One of my favorite video games teams with EAD, Treasures, Clovers (RIP), Cave (Shmups FTW), etc.

They are responsible for the 2-d Metroid games, the infamous Fire Emblem series that date back since Famicom and Super Famicom. The advance wars series and the Paper Mario games (yup it is an RPG with a fun story, hell i love the mario luigi).

I am a big fans of Fire Emblem...too bad most of the earlier games were in japan only, because you can't understand a damn thing lol, but i love Ogre Battle, FF Tactics and most Strat RPG and they are usually riddle with political theme and the Fire Emblem series is known for that.

(PS 3 of them are in the japan VC....mmm since there are tons of dialogue...one would hope to see it coming to VC translated...praying here! me want Thracia 776!)

Fire Emblem is known to be one of the first tactical rpg and here is an excerpt from wiki: "The series is also renowned for having deeply developed characters, as well as the fact that most units' death—or defeat in battle—is permanent in the game until the end of the play through" (source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_emblem)

tmacairjordan87....for christ sake...u are a shame for all his royal airness the king number 23 JORDAN (RESPECT)

1987...if u are really 22 years, u are still a young pups that needs to OPEN his eyes and close your inner fanboy sexualness, too bad for you if you can't enjoy gaming on all system. To limit oneself is to degrade and deprive of the diversity that life has given upon us. amen brotha

Hahaha! Now he sounds like the retard he really is! I really do love it!

It's ok, they've helped me a lot with my psychology paper I've been working on for over a year (on behavior patterns and how they're influenced). I've purposely been upping the trolling to see what I could get out of them, and it's worked brilliantly. So brilliantly, that someone actually took time out to write a code to stop me.

But yeah now's as good a time as ever to complete it, since I only have a month left to finish it. Sorry I've put you all through that, even though it was fun to watch all the reactions both good and bad :P.

Although, it's not like I haven't tried to tell you all it was an act before. The real me doesn't even hate nintendo, it's more like a begrudging indifference. Hell, I'm surprised none of you caught on when I was openly saying I was getting a Wii. I'm going to be getting one around christmas time just in case they do actually drop the price, although I should know better than to follow Patcher's rumors but I figure I might as well with this one.

I completely agree with Chad, and I even own an xbox360, without having any shooter (well GoW and RE5 came with the console), Because most of them are explosions and manly men shouting each other. I like the jrpgs on it though, people should hype them more so they release more (not only on the 360, on the wii too).

Also why is everyone forgetting Fire Emblem, and Zelda (try to make a timeline, it creates one of the most complex stories in games), also mario rpgs (the first one, paper(s), M&L) have really well written story, sure it's not completely serious, but it's really funny (and comedy is difficult to write, considering how different is everyone's sense of humor).

As a fan of the series I must admit this game has me excited and nervous. Part of me thinks Nintendo doesn't "get" Metroid anymore and this game will be too different from the rest. That could be a good thing though. It looks sweet so my opinion is more positive than negative.

I honestly don't understand why people say stupid shit like that. "Nintendo doesn't get this franchise anymore." Nintendo CREATED Metroid. They've been making Metroid games since the 1986. Believe me, they get it. All this speculation and worry about how the game will turn out is because WE don't get it. Metroid is about plenty of exploration, but it is just as much action and puzzles, too.

So this one actually gives Samus a story. Great. I want that and I'm sure everybody wants that. They're just worried about how it will turn out. The only other Metroid games that provide a backstory for her would be Fusion, and Super Metroid (but only slightly).

But I hope that this doesn't come off as me bashing you unnecessarily. Its just something I see all over the place. I'm sure this game will be absolutely fine and I'm not sure if there's really THAT much to worry about.

@chriscanberg

It makes perfect sense that the creator of something can lose sight of what made it great. Think of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. George Lucas made it, but he clearly did a poor job of carrying over the things that made the originals great.

"So this one actually gives Samus a story. Great. I want that and I'm sure everybody wants that."
I don't. Metroid has always been about exploring desolate alien worlds and the Prime series introduced logs so you could piece together what happened there. That is fantastic. We don't need black marine mentors chatting us up or stuffy looking admirals. Those things failed to make any other game compelling and they will make metroid just another space shooter.

I really like that this game is going to stick with existing canon, and not try to be Metroid 5. Makes me that much more eager to get my hands on it.

Still, I hope Nintendo comes back with an actual Fusion sequel / Metroid 5. I'd love to see where that story goes.

I would be very fascinated in the direction they would take it, since Samus would naturally be a wanted criminal, since she defied the Federation military and destroyed the SA-X, their Omega Metroid, and blew up their whole space station in defiance of their orders

In fact, that might be why they've hesitated to commission a Metroid V. They might have written themselves into a corner, unsure about how to take Samus in the direction of outlaw

The trailer was a true Megaton. Amazing action, and a shit load of actual story just by watching the cinematic portions.

"Nintendo doesn't do stories. There's no trolling there, because it's 100% fact."

Your right tmac I forgot that they taught us that in elementary school.

WTF are you talking about, your opinions are now FACTS? Before this trolling just made conversation but now your like a kid trying to perform surgery.

If you know something we dont you might want to tell the millions of gamers (and developers) that think otherwise.

I only played through Metroid Fusion once, back in Christmas of 2002, but now that i think about it, the game had a pretty decent system for unearthing the story, between Samus's little soliloquys and her interactions with Adam the computer. So i'm optimistic for now.

I am excited yet a little apprehensive. I am a huge fan of the Prime series. The reps at Nintendo seem like they are trying to convince us that this new game is way better than the Prime series. Plus I am not a big fan of team ninja's work. I hope they do well. I just wish they stop trying to convince us this is the best direction for the series.

Too bad they cut out the scanning, as it was one of my favourite parts of the Metroid Primes. This sound like an action oriented game with story told through cutscenes. Not very original, and they didn't need to use Samus Aran for that. Metroid games are special - and I hope this one is too :)

I always thought that the brilliance of the Metroid series was how the story was implied rather than told... you could tell that there was a cohesive reality behind it all, but you were left -- as an explorer -- to infer the details of it.

Prime found a good balance, making you feel like you were spying on little snippets of the whole plan through your scanning.

Corruption went too far, much as I appreciate their efforts. I have no doubt Metroid Other M will be a blast to play... but I really hope they try to re-capture the sense of isolation and mystery that was, until recently, a hallmark fo the series.

The action itself in this game looks awesome, but it does not feel a thing like Metroid, which was the only reason the Prime series was able to get away with going first-person. It still felt like Metroid. This doesn't.

Of course, things could change once the game is actually out.

I'd prefer a story presented in a way that gives you snippets of that happened/is happening, and you have to piece together the story on your own.
