Fans of Criterion's beloved Billy Joel driving/crashing simulator, Burnout Paradise, were hit hard by the events of yesterday's Xbox Live Marketplace implosion -- frequent Burn-ers have been unable to download the game's long anticipated territorial expansion, Big Surf Island. According to Criterion, "unforeseen technical problems caused this content to be to be removed from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace." Fortunately, the Burnout team is all up on it, working with Microsoft to get a fix out as soon as possible. We'll let you know when they're successful!
Update: Success! Just like that, Criterion's got Big Surf Island online. If you've got $12.99 to drop, Burnout Paradise has a new landmass for you explore.

It stopped being 'fun' at the A-license. I've since completed the Elite, out of completism. there was no really fun achievements to break the bordom of getting to 100% completion, yet my mate said there was loads of fun trophies, which somehow didn't make it to 360

There was also a lot of problem with Rock Band DLC disappearing from the Marketplace. Including the new Spinal Tap/Evanescence tracks. I love it. Every single time they take down Live for maintenance, they seem to screw it up even more.

I just picked it up the original game for $19.99 new as a clearance or something or other that Walmart was ditching. I find it hard to drop another $12.99 for something that for all intents and purposes isn't much of an "expansion". Its a bit more space to do the same exact thing as the main game.

I wonder what the technical issues were. Was it a bug in the game, or a problem with the download infrastructure?
I got it last week and played it for an hour or two with no problems besides a couple of clipping issues on the island.

According to their twitter, it came back up about an hour and a half before this post was made. Thanks for the effort, Joystiq.

Glad I bought this on PS3. Har har har.....
Seriously, though. Big Surf Island may be small, but it's dense with roads and paths to discover and drive on. Just finished unlocking the last of the Toy Legendary cars last night. I'm glad they made the Jansen 88 Special the easiest one to earn.... it's definitely the most fun.

So did the Live maintenance only effect the marketplace content that was released this week or has older content been effected as well?
I was downloading some things on Monday and didn't finish and forgot about the Tuesday shutdown and didn't have time to power up my 360 yesterday to see if the things were still in my queue.

I downloaded this and bought it on Monday. Have played it a few time since then without problem.
A lot of fun. You can really get high scores with stunt-runs on this island.
Worth the $12.50 to me, anyhow.

There isn't a dash in Burners. We're just Burners with a capital B.
