It's actually a pretty fun game, especially multiplayer... but I'd think it'd be pretty hard to create an awful game with the CoD4 Modern Warfare engine.
Now I know a lot of people are tired of WWII games, but I never played any of them. My first introduction to Call of Duty was Modern Warfare, so by the time WaW appeared, it just seemed like an different version of a solid product.
I know I can't be alone in starting the series with CoD4.
For me, this is just tiding me over until Modern Warfare 2 appears :) ...but I have to admit, they've done a pretty good job on the new map releases.

Isn't that merely the Natal thing packaged with new Xbox360's, which was already announced for 2010?

I think the invisible sub has clouded his judgment. I'm pretty sure he's referencing Natal.

Looking forward, we plan to innovate and grow our business exponentially. We plan to do this in three ways.
(Pause)
1 (hold finger up to emphasize): We plan to expand the marketshare of our product
2 (hold two fingers up): We will penetrate this marketshare and monetize revenue streams
3 (hold up three fingers, preferably the last three, to seem cosmopolitan): We plan to penetrate your mother with our new console and monetize all over her face.

What the hell is going on in that picture? Is there some sort of "Ark of the Covenant" weapon in this game?

Not only did Treyarch dismantle the Call of Duty series, but now they've defiled World War II as well.

Wait... Raiders of the Lost Ark is the one that is "real" and everyone likes, right? Shit, that didn't work the way I planned it.

Yes, I've played the game, it's utter crap. With the resources they had at their disposal the game easily been one of the best WWII shooters to be released. Instead, Treyarch released a mediocre game with bull shit gimmick. And yes, that bull shit gimmick defiles WWII, what was the aim of this game? Where they aiming to make a B movie type game? If that's the case Valve certainly kicked their ass! This game was like a Nazi exploitation film and I have a great disdain for Nazi exploitation films.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is a classic, don't besmirch that film by callously throwing it in league with World at War.

And is it just me, or did Treyarch plagiarize the name from a WWII documentary narrated by Laurence Olivier?

I hope you do realize that you manage to explain every WWII game in existence.

what was the aim? oh, i don't know, having FUN? not every video game has to be a piece of art. some are just made for fun. lighten up a little, and judge the game based on its own merits and you'll see.
and even though you're an idiot, you're a well articulated idiot and that makes a good difference.

defile WWII? oh come on. It's just an added bonus mode buried in the game. Designed for FUN, not to be historically acurate. Nobody seems to complain about Resistance making a whole franchise out of a similar WWII concept. Or Valkyria Chronicles (I mean, how dare they change the political boundaries and names, and introduce fake resources!). Probably because most people understand it's a video game, not a history book.

I don't have a problem with a game made "just for fun," I thoroughly enjoyed playing Left 4 Dead. I'm criticizing this game because Treyarch is riding on the coattails of Infinity Ward's success with COD 4, not to mention a lack of innovation. Not only did they copy and paste COD 4's multiplayer system without expanding it, but it seems they got the idea of Nazi zombies (that ostensibly seems to be heavily influenced by Return to Castle Wolfenstein) from Gears of War's Horde mode. I did like campaign and four player co-op though.
"and even though you're an idiot, you're a well articulated idiot and that makes a good difference." I'll take that as a complement.

First, that was for dramatic effect. Secondly, as I stated in my last post this game lacks originality including Zombie mode. Resistance is a game that procures innovation with it's story arch, multiplayer mode (40 players online), and because it's developer, Insomniac Games, is noted for innovation. Comparing Resistance to World at war is folly.

Who cares? W@W is a very good game. It should also be noted that W@W has a very fun 4-player co-op mode than none of the IW CoD's have. Personally, I played W@W more than I ever played CoD4 because of Zombies and Co-op. I don't give two shits about CoD4's MP so for me W@W was the better value.

And I'm not buying the "originality is the only way to make a good entertaining game" argument either. Nearly every game made now copies multiple concepts from tons of games that came before it. It's the polish and cohesiveness that make the good ones stand out. Something WaW does no worse than COD4.
Heck, and it is a stretch, but if you want to break it down enough, even COD4 borrows plenty of existing concepts. At it's heart you could argue the multiplayer is really just an MMORPG class and experience based system pasted into every multiplayer mode ever done by an online first person shooter.
See, I can get overly picky too.

"It's the polish and cohesiveness that make the good ones stand out" Well if that's the case Treyarch certainly obtains a failing grade. That game has shit load of glitches and exploits.

you do know that most of the glitches and exploits were put in on purpose right? the top people on the leaderboards work for treyarch. they're the ones that put out the videos of the glitches and patch it a while later. how do you think they found 4 exploits on the new nazi zombie map within 24 hours of the release?

Bull shit, no one puts exploits in their own game. Stop excusing poor development. Treyarch was complacent, end of story. Also those videos were uploaded by known hackers not the developers.
And I feel I've accomplished something today, I've proved that Joystiq possess the most morons on the internet, how anyone can love Nazi fucking zombies is perplexing.

Yes, god forbid I'm unwilling to shell 3200 points for a gimmick, I'm taking a totally unreasonable position.
I think what this thread of comments prove more than anything is that there are simpletons willing and able to continually be lobotomized by unoriginal developers.

Moreover, how the fuck am I a troll for voicing my disdain for this game? If I'm a troll for showing my contempt for this game, fine. But at least I'm not a lackey willing to be continually fucked in the ass by a lackluster gimmick!
