Capcom to provide Lost Planet 2's game engine to its external studios
Capcom's practices haven't changed much over the years. The company has been using MT Framework -- an internal engine designed for multiplatform use -- for quite some time now. It's powered many games over the years, including Dead Rising, Devil May Cry 4, and Resident Evil 5. With the release of Lost Planet 2, however, the company is poised to introduce the next evolution of its multiplatform engine, MT Framework 2.0. Capcom has high hopes for 2.0, and is actually going to provide the engine to its external contract studios, RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi told Game Watch. This is a first for the company, which used the first engine as its be-all, end-all means for making games.
MT Framework 1 was always designed to be an internal engine; Capcom saw MT Framework 1 as an essential tool of its own to create games. After having great success with the engine over many years, however, folks started asking about using it. So, Capcom kept that in mind when creating the new engine, which the company said won't be outsourced as part of its business (like Epic does with its Unreal Engine, for example), but, again, will be provided to its external contract studios for use.

Kinda like SEGA is doing with the Hedgehog Engine, I hope it works out for them and we end up with better games because of that.

Considering the results it put out with RE5, this is a very good thing.
Poddie @ Jun 18th 2009 3:59AM

Rollins @ Jun 18th 2009 8:42AM
Havoc is just for physics.

This looks like that screenshot was taken from a Unix/Linux machine, or a very weird Windows theme, hopefully it is a Linux computer :-)

Thats nice of Capcom. Unreal Engine needs to go away already. Im tired of wet looking games.
WiredKnight @ Jun 18th 2009 1:41PM
That's the studio's fault, not the Engine's.
anoteoftruth @ Jun 18th 2009 11:58AM
I'm really excited about this one.. considering RE5 was on the MT1, I can only imagine what kind of awesomeness will come from the MT2. I'm so happy to see this, especially after the huge disapointment in Terminal Reality's "Infernal engine." They might as well just name it the "everything floats to the ground and glides on any surface like its weightless-bullshit engine." How can u go aruond touting a new engine when in Ghostbusters, If a door knocked down in front of me, I can push it weightlessly across the room just by walking into it? Retarded man. Can't wait to see what MT2 will bring.
badbob001 @ Jun 18th 2009 4:18PM
So *now* can we have Megaman Legends 3?
Levi @ Jun 18th 2009 7:22PM
