Nielsen: Halo 3: ODST, God of War 3, Wii Sports Resort most desired games post-E3
Now that the excitement of E3 has died down, research firm Nielsen has readied the results of a new survey, which gauged consumer purchase intent for titles from the show. Obtained between June 7 to June 14, the results (via Edge) concluded that Bungie's upcoming jaunt through New Mombasa, Halo 3: ODST, had the highest purchase intent, with 53% of respondents taking interest. It was followed by God of War 3, which received 49% in support of its comical, over-the-top violence, and Nintendo's log-splitting sim, Wii Sports Resort, which managed 45%.
While undoubtedly big titles, we'd be lying if we said we weren't surprised by the top three. Some other titles we thought would be huge scored lower in this survey, including Assassin's Creed 2 (32%) and The Beatles: Rock Band (30%). Clearly, the allure of wasting extra-terrestrial lifeforms is still very strong in gamers. What would Spock say?

Thats right, my little Halo-Lemmings, it's a bargain. Come right this way...
Heavytoka @ Jun 18th 2009 2:31PM
I wonder why Uncharted 2 isn't even on the list?
Alex @ Jun 18th 2009 2:38PM
well that should be pretty easy to figure out based on the survey results.
RolexDPracer @ Jun 18th 2009 2:48PM
It's on the PS3. Just look at Killzone 2, Metal Gear 4, and inFamous sale. They're all great games, but the install base just isn't there.
Mark @ Jun 18th 2009 2:53PM
Erm because clearly they asked unusually balanced audience of gamers, either intentionally (my guess), or unintentionally.
Perhaps they did the survey outside Microsoft's E3 stand...
I don't know a single person even vaguely interested in Halo3 OSD, but know plenty that can't wait for Uncharted2...
I wonder who sponsored this survey?
melloncollie @ Jun 18th 2009 2:59PM
@Mark
Yes, because your anecdotal evidence that differs from this survey means this survey is just marketing.
Douche.
Wes @ Jun 18th 2009 3:00PM
I wonder how much less Wii Sports Resort costs to develop than Halo 3: ODST considering the difference in intent to purchase was only 8%.
Duke @ Jun 18th 2009 3:10PM
"It was followed by God of War 3, which received 49%"
So, explain again how the PS3 is not represented here and this is such a one sided poll? Damn Mark, you are stretching here.
Vidikron @ Jun 18th 2009 3:41PM
@Duke
You could actually at least partially explain that away due to the fact the GoW series started on the extremely popular PS2. So it already came into this generation with a huge following and name recognition.
I personally wouldn't worry about this list though. MW2 is low on the list, yet we all know it will sell millions. Uncharted doesn't have the name recognition these other titles do, but I'm sure it will still do well enough... even if likely less than it deserves.
Duke @ Jun 18th 2009 4:03PM
What Vid? Its a PS3 game, so how can you say the PS3 games aren't represented!? You cannot say the list is partial when the second highest listed game is for the PS3 no matter where the series started - hell Halo started on the XBox. That line of reasoning makes no sense either.
Vidikron @ Jun 18th 2009 4:11PM
I'm not actually saying any of that. I was just pointing out that GoW 3 likely has a lot of brand recognition even among non-PS3 owners due to its popularity on the PS2. So it is possible that it could be on the list even if PS3 owners are under represented in the poll. But, again, I'm not saying that I subscribe to these ideas.
Cr4sh Dummy @ Jun 18th 2009 4:37PM
@Mark
I also heard Microsoft is hiding the UFO that crashed at Roswell in an underground bunker adjacent to the earth's core.
Vcize @ Jun 19th 2009 11:51AM
PS3 users probably make up a smaller percentage of this poll because, you know, PS3 users make up a smaller percentage of the population.
A misrepresented sample would probably be Mark's, which sounds like it's mostly PS3 users in a world where most people are not PS3 users.
Just saying...
Shagittarius @ Jun 18th 2009 2:31PM
I understand why all 3 are there, not that I agree with it.
Me personally I couldn't care less about Halo 3:ODST.
Do you think the reception to the Beatles Rock Band is due to The Beatles not appealing to the younger generation as much meaning a smaller core audience. Or do you think its cause Rhythm games are going out of vogue?
WREturns @ Jun 18th 2009 2:32PM
Yes.
Shagittarius @ Jun 18th 2009 2:34PM
LOL, even more frightening:
Guitar Hero: Van Halen - 34%
Thats 4% more interest in an inferior product and band.
AsherR @ Jun 18th 2009 2:48PM
I'm curious as to why you are getting downvoted....
You politely expressed your opinion. I suppose that's not allowed?
Or because you asked a relevant question about Rock Band?
Shagittarius @ Jun 18th 2009 2:54PM
Its my fan club.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Jun 18th 2009 3:08PM
I've got some thing for the masses to downvote...
The Beatles are overrated and the idea that large enough numbers of people willing to buy that steaming pile baffles my mind.
Duke @ Jun 18th 2009 4:29PM
Is Shag being downvoted because he doesn't care for ODST? I don't get the dislike for his comment at all. He didn't slam the game, and you cant expect everyone to love every game out there.
SoulBlade @ Jun 18th 2009 4:32PM
i actually agree with you on this one... though i know a few people who are really excited for ODST... not sure why though.
i think people are getting tired of rhythm games.. but also this generation knows little about groups like the Beatles... so yea... like WREturns answered - Yes.
GoW3 has been on my list since I finished Gow2 and I wanted it more after Chains. After E3 though, the game I'm really pumped for is Uncharted 2
ToTheMoon @ Jun 18th 2009 5:52PM
I think I can field that one... There are casual players (people who play here and there), hardcore players (own and play all three systems) and fanboys (people who subscribe to the notion that one console is the best regardless of evidence to the contrary).
Those folk are all knowns to us but I think there are sub-groups of the fanboys which are forces to be reckoned with. These are the Halo whores, the Mario misfits and Ratchet rejects who quietly read the daily news and instantly downvote anyone who does not agree with their one dimension view.
I also think Shag's response was well written but that doesn't always matter on the 'Stiq...
WREturns @ Jun 18th 2009 2:31PM
Of the three I think that Wii Sports Resort is first on my list with God of War 3 and Halo: OBGYN tying for second.
MisterSquared @ Jun 18th 2009 2:48PM
As much as I hate it...I C WAT U DID THAR
ChristmasBeard @ Jun 18th 2009 2:50PM
ooOOooOoOooo.... I'd play Halo: OBGYN!
Wait.... nevermind. I think two or three of the levels in Halo 3 were close enough to Halo: OBGYN and those were terrible! I'll pass on the oozing, grumbling, birth canal levels from now on.
Dr. steve brule (formerly ronald.raygun) @ Jun 19th 2009 4:51PM
so is that the only way to kill the flood? ... ewwwww
Howard @ Jun 18th 2009 2:32PM
I'm waiting for ODST - and finally grabbing a HDTV next month :D, it certainly looks good.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 18th 2009 2:32PM
I can't argue with God of War 3, that game looked stunning in motion. During the extended demo footage, when the guy walks Kratos through the dark cave with only his "lantern" I couldn't believe it wasn't CG. Same when he uses those wings to fly through the collapsing tunnel.
NaeemTHM @ Jun 18th 2009 2:43PM
Well the God of War series has always been a looker, so I wouldn't expect anything less. I mean God of War 2 looked almost like a early 360 game.
Mazrael @ Jun 18th 2009 2:57PM
Early 360 games were just Xbox 1 games - or at least that power level
Mr Khan @ Jun 18th 2009 4:11PM
I had heard that some were frustrated with the idea that it was too same-y, but the awesomeness of it all seems to have outset them.
I especially like the GIF that i saw on VGChartz, where Kratos just sort of pulls this guy's head off. Not snaps or twists, just sort of pulls the neck until it pops off.
Duke @ Jun 18th 2009 4:46PM
Mazrael, I have to agree with your downvotes here - that comment was baseless.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Jun 18th 2009 5:17PM
"Early 360 games were just Xbox 1 games - or at least that power level"
sigh. If you're going to troll at least try not to make it so damn obvious.
Balloonfighter99 @ Jun 18th 2009 2:36PM
Yah, it's kinda sad but I do think The Beatles are lost on the youngins, but this game may change that. That may be a big reason why it was made.
Anti-Villian @ Jun 19th 2009 4:58AM
ROCKBAND: Mozart!
Everyone would buy that!!!
tmmoore_nc @ Jun 18th 2009 2:39PM
Titles missing from this list make me question its' accuracy. No Modern Warfare 2?
Kdiggy @ Jun 18th 2009 2:41PM
I'm amazed people still care about Halo... and a 3 hour expansion masquerading as a full retail game to boot.
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jun 18th 2009 2:45PM
Its probably because of the Halo: Reach Beta
NaeemTHM @ Jun 18th 2009 2:46PM
Why wouldn't we care about Halo? This is only the 4th Halo FPS to be released and according to early previews it's definitely a full blown game. Not only that, it does deviate a lot from the old formula (apparently it's an open world game).
It boggles my mind that people still give a damn about the Final Fantasy franchise. X and XII were subpar compared to the Playstation games, and XIII looks like a massive joke.
NaeemTHM @ Jun 18th 2009 2:49PM
I mean look at this:

WHAT THE HELL MAN! It's like a Final Fantasy game made by the Wayne's Brothers.
ChristmasBeard @ Jun 18th 2009 2:53PM
@NaeemTHM: Do you mean Wayans brothers?
NaeemTHM @ Jun 18th 2009 2:57PM
The Waynes Bros tend to make spoof movies (i.e. Scary Movie, Dance Movie, Insert Movie Here).
Final Fantasy XIII seems like an amalgam of every JRPG stereotype times ten.
Storm Eagle @ Jun 18th 2009 3:03PM
No. It's Wayans. Damon, Marlon, Keenan Ivory....I'm sure there's more but those are the only ones I can remember.
uncle jesse @ Jun 18th 2009 3:04PM
Wayne's Brothers
i heard they were on In Loving Color
redjack @ Jun 18th 2009 3:05PM
So the Wayans brothers.
NaeemTHM @ Jun 18th 2009 3:12PM
Oh! My apologize, I meant Wayans Brothers.
Anyone ever watch that show? It was pretty funny...
"We're brothers! We're happy and we're singing and we're colored!"
redjack @ Jun 18th 2009 3:21PM
Most definitely. I'm a fan of their earlier stuff. They fell off after Scary Movie though. Course, the Zucker Brothers used to be good too (Airplane, Top Secret!) and they made the 3rd Scary Movie. I guess you can't be funny all of the time.
Though you should check out each set of brothers first major movie. I'm Gonna Git You Sucka! and Kentucky Fried Movie if you haven't yet. Gems those two.
ChristmasBeard @ Jun 18th 2009 3:31PM
I've been disappointed with the look of the upcoming GI Joe movie... but once I learned they had cast a Wayans brother (Marlon) as a GI Joe character I knew it would be an awful movie.
I hope Cobra wins. Stupid Marlon Wayans as Ripcord. psh.
redjack @ Jun 18th 2009 3:34PM
Even if you took him out of the D&D movie it wouldn't of saved that POS. The dwarf was funny though.
ohyeahcola @ Jun 18th 2009 4:05PM
@NaeemTHM
Final Fantasy X is the 3rd best FF behind FF IV and VII. so saying it was sub-par means you probably never played it.
