Meaningful -- as in it'll mean Sony would finally bow to ubiquitous suggestions, predictions and occasional threats that see the PlayStation 3 being lowered in price please please oh please. Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia is the latest to join the frugal chorus, telling Industry Gamers, "We continue to believe a $100 price cut on PS3 will occur around the launch of EA's Madden NFL 2010, which is scheduled for release on 8/18."
Agee claims to have encountered similar sentiment at a recent GameStop executive meeting, overhearing talk of a "highly likely" and "meaningful" near-term price drop even over the clinking of diamond-encrusted chalices and relentless pre-order thrusting.
It's Sony's decision, ultimately, but if it's alright with you, we'd rather just get this price drop over with. A lower price means more people get in on the fun ... especially when they also get to stop reading these things.

Really? You're taking the word of one podcast comparing series where the last full release was in 2005 on a system designed in the 90's, where Forza 2 came out in 2007 on a platform released in 2005? Of course they're going to be different! Wait until GT5 launches, then compare it to Forza 3 and tell me which is better.

Very easy for Sony to drop the price $100. They just need to take out the blu ray player, take out the wifi chip, and start charging for online service.

Umm, the battery is fully replaceable. Did you notice the Phillps screw heads on the back? Also, it's just a miniUSB cable, buy a 10 foot one for 3 bucks and quit whining. And quit complaining about how 'oh teh noez HD-DVD was better!' because it's pointless. Blu-Ray won the format war, so suck it up and move on. So because crappy ports of games made you think the console was inferior, how do you justify the superiority of first party games? Also, mandatory install? I've got 16 games and only 4 of them required an install. Besides, there's another platform that actually almost always requires an install. It's called a PC. No one complains about that.
And, for the record, PlayStation Network is not 'internet' service, moron. Perhaps its the Dial-Up connection you were using? Its a gaming network-you can't use it without actual internet service.

@ Bradwart - Have you played Forza or seen videos of Forza 3?
You haven't said whether or not you own a 360. I've openly stated I own both systems. I've played GT and Forza. GT WAS my favorite racing game but it's stagnate compared to Forza.
If your brand loyal to GT then fine but at least be able to admit your loyal to an inferior product. It wasn't just one Joystiq podcast. Did you watch any E3 coverage? Universally - Forza 3 was praised above GT.
The next GT? Do you have a release date? It's been talked about longer than a PS3 Price Drop. Like all things Sony - Home, GT, the price drop ...drawn out forever.
The PS3 is a good system, it does a lot of things right but I wouldn't say PS3 exclusives are "superior". Superior to what? What is "superior" to Mass Effect? The PS3 SCI-FI RPG that doesn't exist?
Uncharted was a great game. It's graphics sure as hell weren't "superior" to Mass Effect. Both told great stories and were fun. Killzone 2 isn't superior to Gears of War 2. Metacric and everyone else that's played both agrees. The control scheme on Killzone 2 is widely criticized as is the constant video lag. The characters aren't nearly as memorable.
Ratchet and Clank IS superior to Banjo Kazoo. There's a feather in your hat.
As far as getting on the other poster about the slow internet on the PS3 - it is slow. I have a direct connection to mine with a high speed business line. It's not dial-up slow but it sure isn't the same as my computer speeds that link wirelessly. It's a nice feature though that the 360 doesn't have.
I don't regret buying a PS3 but if I had to pick one it would be the 360 hands down. Why? Better exclusives. And that's not just my opinion it's shown in the comparative reviews between the two's exclusives.

Migraines...but hey, I like debating.
Here's my situation as of now: I bought a Wii and DS Lite in 2007, in 2008, I bought an Xbox 360. In that year, before I bought a 360, I didn't know what to buy. It was either a PS3 or a 360.
My very first console ever was a PS1, I had great times with it. And then I had a PS2, which I also loved.
But then, it was 2008, and everyone was foaming about Halo, Gears of War, and tons of other exclusives for 360. My good friends had one and really wanted to see me on Live. I watched them play on theirs' when I went over and it looked like they were having an absolute blast.
So then, I looked at the options:
Xbox 360: Fantastic exclusives, Xbox Live, friends have one.
PS3: Also have great exclusives, however, it seemed to have a limited amount of games, PSN, Blu-Ray, Sony is home to my first console.
I ended up with a 360, as I said before.
Now, it's 2009, I have fantastic games for 360, some are non-exclusives and some are. I love my 360 and the quality of the system. But I also want a PS3. I would very much love to play Uncharted, Infamous, and LBP. I need a Blu-Ray Player, and I like the quality experience PS3 delivers. I'm also interested to see how PSN works.
But son of a gun, it's pretty expensive. Good price for what it gives you, but it's still a fortune. I seriously hope they give us a big price cut this year. I mean, did you see that article?! Activison is about to abandon the PS3! And this is Activision we're talking about, one of the biggest game companies in the world, and for that company to abort the system could put the company in a MAJOR pile of crap.

Cool story bro!
Also:
Despite what Activision says, it'll keep producing titles for the PS3. Sure, it may not make as much money as it does on the other two platforms but it still DOES make some money. They wouldn't be that stupid to stop supporting the PS3 and to start losing money (or not making as much money as they could), this is just the way they came up with to pressure Sony.
So hold down your horses. Activision is going nowhere.

You have a good point. If Activision left PS3, it would still lose some money, which could put them in a horrible situation. And I doubt a huge company like Activision would do something idiotic like that.
