Bleszinski not working on survival horror game, not sick of Gears yet
We've heard a number of rumors claiming Mr. Clifford B. was preparing to eschew his chainsawgun-heavy namesake in favor of one more spooky. However, these rumors were recently crushed between Bleszinski's manly, well-maintained jaws during an interview with OXM, in which he explains he's "not making a horror game next," because, well, "Gears is very much near and dear" to him.
While news that Bleszinski's next project won't contain ammo conservation or purposefully poor lighting may seem like the biggest news to come out of the interview, the real sizzler arises three questions later, when Bleszinski proudly admits, "I'm a giant douchebag." (No, we're not making that up. Promise!)

I honestly have no clue why he's so gosh darned "revered".
PR0F3TA @ Jun 19th 2009 12:05PM
because at one point Gears of War was the best looking game out there... that, and xbox owners love their shooters.
i guess the xbox fanbase needs their own Kojima
MosquitoControl @ Jun 19th 2009 12:07PM
Then you weren't playing Jazz Jackrabbit in the mid 90s, Unreal in the late 90s, and Gears now.
He's one of the last "rock star" developers. Possibly the absolute last. A relic of another time, probably, but one of the few devs recognized by face by a huge chunk of gamers and one of the last devs willing to speak without filter about anything you want.
Many of the rest have gone Jeter on us - completely hide personality whenever the public is listening. Then there's Dave Jaffe, who tries to prove he's not a dork by swearing too much (you make games, you're a dork, live with it.)
tenor77 @ Jun 19th 2009 12:17PM
I'm going to guess it's the influence he's had through his company and games.
I think PC gamers think more of him that Xboxers
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 19th 2009 12:18PM
Ahh, Jazz Jackrabbit, oh man that brings back memories. Same with Jill of the Jungle.
Why did Jazz Jackrabbit 3 have to be scrapped? Looks like this generation now wouldn't be welcoming of a Jazz 3, unless his gun has a chainsaw attached to it.
NaeemTHM @ Jun 19th 2009 12:26PM
"i guess the xbox fanbase needs their own Kojima"
But....they have Kojima.
arkweld @ Jun 19th 2009 12:36PM
because while you were waiting for an Xbox to be developed CliffyB was playing online with fans and interacting with the gaming and modding community.
"I owned CliffyB" was a regular feature on his ownage site if I remember correctly.
snarfoogle @ Jun 19th 2009 1:00PM
@Cosmo
After reading your comment I really want to play a next gen Jazz of War where you get a chainsaw bayonet. >:(
Tre (formerly known as digitaltre) @ Jun 19th 2009 1:06PM
@MosquitoControl: My dad played Unreal, but I don't ever recall anything about this Jazz Jackrabbit character. (P.S. I'm 12.)
VicViper @ Jun 19th 2009 1:34PM
"I honestly have no clue why he's so gosh darned "revered"."
I used to admire him, because GoW 1, while not perfect, did so many things right, particularly gameplay wise. To date, I don't think any other game has a cover system that feels so robust, and intuitive. And multiplayer, while bit flawed (host advantage, shotgunning) was pretty great.
However GoW 2, particularly multiplayer, was/is such a disaster, I can only conclude it was mostly dumb luck the first time around, as they continue to strip away, slowdown, and dumb down gameplay, so that all that's left is an exercise in slow running character models, nerfed down manuvering, the same hosting problems as the original and then some, bots doing GoW 1 glitches that were patched in GoW 1, and so many more. Also, match making which completely misses the point by not even allowing players to specify game type, which leads to chronic dropping.
Essentially they knowingly shipped a broken multiplayer game and didn't even patch it until months later.
Oh yeah, and they even had DLC maps to sell starting less than 6 weeks after it's release.
Ridgecity @ Jun 19th 2009 1:48PM
He's almost C-list material! He deserves his spot right next to the Kardashians!
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 19th 2009 4:38PM
Well Tre, Jazz Jackrabbit came out before you were born, it came out back in 1994 and I played it first back in 1997. A sequel came out in 1998 and they wanted to make a third game but it was sadly scrapped. I can't believe how much Epic has changed since then.
[tre] @ Jun 20th 2009 3:52PM
Thanks Cosmo. Finally, someone who is nice to me on the Stiq. +1 for you and a cookie.

Psycho2 @ Jun 19th 2009 11:57AM
If gears is so damn "Near and dear" to him why'd he F up the sequel?
ryan @ Jun 19th 2009 12:13PM
Because sometimes you hurt the ones you love.
Wait, what?
Psycho2 @ Jun 19th 2009 12:20PM
Yeah I'm not gonna lie, That was pretty funny.
MaliceMajorE15 @ Jun 19th 2009 12:32PM
so is gears 2 fucked up? i was under the impression that everyone like it cos it was the first game with a few issues sorted out. or as mr b puts it "bigger and more badass".
every reviewer says that now, its the gow2 catchphrase
Jerk Face @ Jun 19th 2009 12:43PM
I don't think it's fucked. It's basically the first, but more, and a bit better. Nothing wrong with that.
VicViper @ Jun 19th 2009 1:35PM
Psycho2 is right on.
GoW2 is totally fucked up, especially in multiplayer. Anyone who played GoW 1 online for more than a week could tell you that.
Cal @ Jun 19th 2009 2:40PM
Played GoW online most nights for two years, I couldn't even stand two weeks of GoW2. They are two completely different games online, with 2 going for gimmicks and slow gameplay which killed it for me. I hope that Gears 3 goes back to GoW style, abandoning 2 as the troublesome middle child, it won't happen, but I can dream..
TruthBringer @ Jun 19th 2009 5:48PM
Some people just can't stand it when their favorite franchises change... even for the better. Gears of War 2 is the grownup, more mature brother of Gears of War. It is just simply better.
Cr4sh Dummy @ Jun 19th 2009 8:01PM
Gears 2 was profoundly better than the first game, especially with the addition of Horde mode.
acefondu @ Jun 19th 2009 11:58AM
"Near and Dear" translates to "I'm looking to buy my own island, so I need to make Gears of War 3."
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Jun 19th 2009 12:06PM
lolled.
Trance Addix @ Jun 19th 2009 12:04PM
He has a good taste in cars -- except I would never buy a Spyder (and kindly refuse when the salesman offers).
Storm Eagle @ Jun 19th 2009 12:04PM
You see that?! Right there? He admitted it! He's a giant douchebag. The universe is complete!
bioadam @ Jun 19th 2009 12:25PM
By admitting it, he can't be one. Everyone who took douchebaggery 101 knows that it is impossible for douchebag to see himself as a douchebag much less admit he is a douchebag. The universe is incomplete again.
Anticrawl @ Jun 19th 2009 12:29PM
That's just a coverup for his true identity - a turd sandwich.
Sam @ Jun 19th 2009 12:06PM
i'm sorry cliffy. i just can't do it anymore. quit making gears. i'm tired of girly-men continually expressing their manliness by over-compensating in media. Yes, that's right Sheila Labeuf, i'm talking to you too.
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 19th 2009 12:12PM
His games aren't bad, but his face just rubs me the wrong way. Well that, and sorta abandoning the PC market that supported him from the beginning.
Velocifaptor @ Jun 19th 2009 12:13PM
Damn people and their faces. Why can't he just look more appealing to everyone?
Velocifaptor @ Jun 19th 2009 12:13PM
Sorry to go against the grain but I think Cliffy is a cool guy.
Ihavepants @ Jun 19th 2009 12:16PM
eh makes games and doesn't afraid of anything.
Kizzle @ Jun 19th 2009 3:29PM
I don't know how cool he is. But he is an asset to the gaming industry. That's all i care about.
Dance Mofo @ Jun 19th 2009 12:15PM
CliffyB.
Nick @ Jun 19th 2009 12:15PM
Oh Odin, not another one!
MrMuggs @ Jun 19th 2009 12:25PM
Telling everyone he's all grown up and no longer wants to be called "CliffyB" was his best douchebag move in recent memory. "CliffyB" is your nickname. You're not Puff Daddy/P.Diddy/Diddy/Sean John/Sean Combs. You're a nerd who makes games that wants everyone to think you're cool because you highlight your hair, whitened your creepy jackal teeth and wear an earring. Get over yourself. You are a douchebag.
xbox420king @ Jun 19th 2009 11:15PM
LOL really hard when i read "you're a nerd who makes games..."
Anticrawl @ Jun 19th 2009 12:26PM
Mr. B is all about "player choice."
I wonder if "player choice" was in mind when he shoved the god awful matchmaking systems down our throats where we couldn't setup or choose the way we wanted to play the game we spent 60 US dollars + tax. If they were to remove matcmaking and have online setup like the first Gears of War with lobbies then it would have been an accetable game. What is the purpose of paying for Xbox Live and a Live enabled game when the only human interaction you get in the 5 short rounds is after each match a little "Fuck your mom and suck my cock" banter?
Vcize @ Jun 19th 2009 12:30PM
Well, to be fair, matchmaking is something that everyone begged and pleaded for in Gears 2. They just, you know, expected it to work properly when they asked for it.
I'm not sure what your last comment is about, they (finally) changed it so you can talk to the other team in between rounds, and you've always been able to talk to them in the dead room.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 19th 2009 1:41PM
the only player choice I ever saw in Gears was whether you wanted to go left or right a few times
Zakeru @ Jun 19th 2009 12:36PM
BRING US GEARS OF WAR 3!!!
Can't wait for it ;__;
tupacmania1991 @ Jun 19th 2009 12:40PM
No new Epic PS3 game? Bullshit!
TruthBringer @ Jun 19th 2009 5:52PM
Maybe that is because the PS3 sucks in comparison to the 360. That is why Activision is considering not even bothering with it anymore.
uncle jesse @ Jun 19th 2009 1:00PM
I like Gears of War... more than friends.
AtomB @ Jun 19th 2009 1:17PM
i actually liked the 2nd one better then the first..
Cyro @ Jun 19th 2009 2:06PM
Actually it is better. Gameplay feels better and its more fun. Story was good too. Now the only thing that feels that they took a step backwards was in the multiplayer. Matchmaking was a total disaster when it came out and it is still not very good (unless you have a great internet connection).
I don't know, maybe I'm not being fair to it, since I am comparing Halo 3 multiplayer to it.
Cr4sh Dummy @ Jun 19th 2009 8:02PM
I concur.
Candlejack @ Jun 19th 2009 1:42PM
Gears 2 is just as good as Gears 1. Stop looking through rose tinted goggles.
iamthestatic @ Jun 19th 2009 1:41PM
Hehe I got a pic with Cliffy B at E3 two weeks ago. All I know is he has rock hard back muscles.
