Another StarCraft II battle report just hit the interwebs. This one is out a little early, as you won't find it anywhere on the official site just yet. Blizzard's third battle report (as obtained by Gamez.nl) shows off some new units, a new map called Scrap Yard and also features over 17 minutes of Zerg vs. Protoss action.
While 17 minutes may not be enough to completely satiate a decade-long deficit of StarCraft goodness, it sure does leave us smiling and gets us excited about playing it later this year. Get briefed on the full battle report right after the break.

You know, I'm a huge Starcraft fan, but I'm really not interested in these battle reports of multiplayer matches. I understand that multiplayer is what a good bulk of people want out of Starcraft, but I always loved the game for the story.

You aren't alone. The single-player campaigns were the reason why I fell in love with Starcraft in the first place, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story will continue in the sequel.

You don't want to watch a stupid clickcraft fight seeing who can cast spells the fastest.
Casting Spells the fastest is an important life skill

I would be excited if not for the fact I have to pay full price for one game instead of three.
So unless Blizzard decided to be nice and actually put all factions one disc instead of three.

The Wings of Liberty campaign is supposedly the length of the entire three-faction StarCraft campaign.

Anyone here wish that Blizzard would 'Orange Box' this game, instead of three different titles sold separately? -_-

it's not even "Orange Boxing" it, it'd just be selling a regular fucking game!

Yeah, just like how they released Starcraft, Broodwars and another full length campaign on Starcrafts original release date for the price of one campaign!

The story? really?
visit the sci fi section of your local bookstore or amazon and I think you might find something a little more engaging than a cardboard video game story.

The story is extremely engaging, and fills up some of that shelf space you were talking about, albeit, some of the books are less than stellar.
The story in this game is as epic as Mass Effect's, and far more complex than Halo's. There is a very detailed backstory, and a lot of moral and philosophical themes are touched on with the Terran and Protoss race, such as extreme drug use, human guinea pigs, and the tyrannical super power of the rich for the Terran and things such as pride and collectivism/individualism on the side of the Protoss. It isn't some cookie-cutter story, even though many of it's settings come from previous sci-fi endeavors, such as Warhammer 40k.
There's also a lot of character in the story. Jim Raynor is probably one of my favorite characters, because he is just a man doing what he thinks is right in a world full of deceit and terrible change. Zeratul is a confused soul looking for wisdom in the middle of conflict, with the hopes of unifying his degenerating race to reclaim it's power and keep it from falling just like those that were before the Protoss.
Maybe you should play the campaign and read some of the backstory before you say anything. Ignorance =/= stupidity, but it sure makes people say stupid things.

You all do realize that there will not be 3 separate games, right?
The initial release will include full functionality for all three civs, multiplayer, map editor, all that jazz, as well as the 30-scenerio long terran campaign. Then, Blizzard will release 2 subsequent x-packs/add-ons (just like basically any other PC strategy game) that will contain the Zerg and Protoss campaigns, respectively, along with new units/features/maps, in all likelihood at the $30 (US) price point. So no, the game is not split up and no you will not have to pay for three separate games.
And goldeneyesoldier, you will almost certainly see a gold edition for Starcraft II, but, like all things like this (including Orange Box), it will come out a while after the original has launched.

Apparently Beta will be releasing on Monday.
Evidence:
- Game journalists were sent an email from Blizzard telling them to sign up at Battle.net by June 19th (which is today, if you didn't notice).
- They said beta would not be released until after Battle Report 3
- There is a rumoured press conference at Blizzard HQ on Monday (start of beta, perhaps?)

Nice reply fail, but yes, the story. Starcraft has one of the most engaging stories in videogames. While it's true that it relies upon familiar Sci-Fi setpieces, so do Star Wars, BSG, Ender's Game or any other number of Sci-Fi standards. This does not diminish the quality of storytelling.
Further, I thoroughly disapprove of your depiction as "a cardboard video game story", which implies that videogames are inherently inferior to other mediums like books. That's bullshit. I'm sorry, but Starcraft has an incredible story, and I'd put it up against any other Sci-Fi work ever. Period.

Why would I rather watch only 3 minutes of the Battle Report? The 8 minutes on YouTube are higher quality!
Anyone have a link to the full Battle Report yet?

Interesting about how Blizzard is packaging this. Shipping game includes Terran campaign with Protoss and Zerg campaigns to come in later sales of DLC/expansion packs.
I'm under no illusions that Blizzard has to deliver the game I expect, but they did sort of set the bar for themselves in the original.
I don't know -- vote with your wallet, I guess.
