JBO: Joystiq Box Office, June 15 - 19

We can't be gaming all the time, despite our best efforts, and from time to time we'll actually take advantage of the movie-playing abilities on our gaming systems. JBO features our top picks for XBL, PSN, Netflix's Watch Instantly, and Blu-ray each week.
Recommendation of the Week:
Donkey Punch (PSN: $5.99 HD and $3.99 SD to rent, $19.99 HD and $14.99 SD to own): Despite the title, Donkey Punch isn't a zany college comedy. It's a taut thriller that takes place in the confines of a luxury yacht at sea, and the titular term plays a big part in making everything unravel. It was shot for less than a million dollars in three weeks, yet still manages to look like a slick Hollywood film. Great soundtrack, terrific performances from a cast of unknowns, and you've got the perfect summer accompaniment. This will make you think twice (or even a third time!) before getting on a boat with a stranger.
Read for the full list on a system by system basis just after the break. As usual, we'll see you at the popcorn st ... well, actually we won't see you at all. But you catch our drift.

Xbox Live Video Marketplace
The Land of the Lost: The Entire Series (160 MS Points, or roughly $2.00 per episode)Even though the new Will Ferrell movie version is getting hammered by The Hangover at the box office (it cost $100 million and has barely taken in $35 million so far), the Sid and Marty Krofft version should still be appreciated. Sure, it has cheesy effects. Yes, the acting is melodramatic. Sure, the premise of Season Three is goofy when Uncle Jack replaces Rick Marshall via the same exact waterfall. But, it's a classic and the Sleestaks are creepy no matter what decade you're in.
Netflix Watch Instantly (Xbox Live)
Chaplin: The Movie (Watch instantly through Xbox Live via Netflix, subscription required: starts at $4.99 per month)If you're a fan of Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man and are looking forward to the upcoming Sherlock Holmes, then you might want to take a look at his performance in Chaplin, which netted him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Of course, this is pre-multiple run-ins with the law Downey, but he learned how to play the violin and saw a physical therapist to imitate Chaplin's posture for this role. Pretty impressive.
PlayStation Store
Gran Torino ($5.99 high definition, $3.99 standard definition to rent, $14.99 SD to own - no HD currently available to own)Clint Eastwood is has been the human equivalent of Pixar lately: he just can't seem to make a flop. Since 2003 alone he's directed four films that have been nominated for multiple Oscars, and that roll was cut abruptly short when the Academy snubbed Gran Torino altogether. But who needs cares about an Oscar when it turns out being your highest-grossing film to date? Eastwood's Kowalski character in this movie makes "Dirty" Harry Callahan look like someone with mild indigestion, and is well worth seeing.
Blu-ray Disc
Lost: Seasons One and Two ($69.99 each)ABC has finally brought the entire series up to HD Blu-ray by releasing the first two seasons of Lost on Blu-ray. You know, just in case you'd forgotten how they got stuck on that island in the first place. Even stranger is the fact that despite them finding just about everything they need to live on in the wreckage of that plane ... no one had a PSP or a DS aboard? Sadly, the special features don't explain that one. They've ported over all the special features from the original DVD releases, upped the picture to 1080p, and added PCM 5.1 soundtracks. Also exclusive to the Blu-ray set is "Season Pass," which allows you to pick up wherever you stopped watching, even if you take the disc out, play 27 different games, ship your console to Hawaii, and set it up beachside on a deserted island.

TheLionOfAzzalle @ Jun 19th 2009 8:14PM
Lol talk about jumping the shark...that's it right there. The beginning of the end.
Simstim @ Jun 19th 2009 8:20PM
Please go back to the old format, these combined posts are terrible.
Jonathan @ Jun 19th 2009 9:19PM
For real, ever since PS3Fanboy turned into Joystiq Playstation, this site has gone down in quality fast.
Christopher Grant @ Jun 19th 2009 9:43PM
This is the first time we've ever done this post – how could we "go back" to any other format? Don't like it, skip it. It's not homework.
Jonathan @ Jun 19th 2009 10:51PM
The old format was that each system had its own Fanboy site. The new format is a combined system site that leads to posts like Joystiq Box Office.
Whispertrance @ Jun 19th 2009 10:51PM
Snap.
Whispertrance @ Jun 19th 2009 10:52PM
Dude, Jonathan, click the tabs at the top of the page. You know, the ones that say "Playstation" or "Xbox" or "Nintendo"?
Yeah, those.
Jonathan @ Jun 19th 2009 11:03PM
Shit, I guess I didn't hit the reply button, my reply is down below.
hey asshole @ Jun 20th 2009 7:40AM
@whispertrance

ottoman673 @ Jun 20th 2009 9:55AM
Jonathan, you win ottoman673's ceremonial 'You ever wonder what an e-tard looks like?' award.
Ladies and gentlemen... Well bam. there it is.
See the tab at the top that says Playstation? Click it. Have a nerdgasm.
ottoman673 @ Jun 20th 2009 9:57AM
Oh, btw; simstim's a runner-up for the award as well.
If you don't like the post? Scroll past it. Kevin's not forcing you to read it now, is he?
Jonathan @ Jun 20th 2009 2:28PM
Hey genius, the only Joystiq site I look at is the one from the Playstation tab. Guess what post is still on top of that site? How you think I even came across this post?
I love it when morons try and call other people idiots.
[tre] @ Jun 20th 2009 4:04PM
You know, they have "PS3" and "PSP" miniature buttons on the side right NEXT to the Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo tabs.
Jonathan @ Jun 20th 2009 8:33PM
Are you guys really this stupid or is this just a sick joke? NO MATTER WHAT SUB-SONY SITE YOU DIRECT ME TO, THIS ARTICLE WILL BE THERE BECAUSE IT'S A JOINT ARTICLE. THIS ARTICLE WOULDN'T EXIST IF WE WERE BACK IN THE FANBOY DAYS.
Do you guys understand our point now?
ZaxCG2 @ Jun 19th 2009 8:24PM
I'm going to watch NONE OF THESE this weekend. I do have Dragon Ball Evolution I plan to stream through Orb to the PS3 though. My friends told me it was a cinematic masterpiece. I CAN'T WAIT.
Silencio @ Jun 19th 2009 8:31PM
Masterpiece? You're friends are playing a joke on you.
Silencio @ Jun 19th 2009 8:32PM
*your
Ashitaka @ Jun 19th 2009 8:47PM
Yeah, I agree with Silencio, somebody tricked you xD
Also, ditch Winamp Orb! I used to have it too, but the Google PS3 Media Server is so much better! Even xbox owners are asking the developers to make an xbox version of it.
You can download it here if you want: http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/list
You won't regret it, I know I haven't.
TomRR @ Jun 19th 2009 8:25PM
What the fuck is this shit? Joystiq, this is why I stopped reading Kotaku.
Stick to gaming or I'm out of here, I have no loyalty to you guys, you just happen to be the most convenient source of news.
Kevin Kelly @ Jun 19th 2009 8:36PM
Here's how things normally work: If there's a post you see, but it doesn't interest you... don't read it! If I see a link on some news site that says "Obese People in New Guinea Find New Way To Lose Weight", I probably ain't gonna click on it. Or click on it, read it, then bitch about it.
Now, speaking of Troll 2...

Uh, trust me. AOL has no say over what we post or don't post. AOL didn't say "Hey! Write this article! Now!" The fact is that most game systems can play movies now, and they make a big point out of providing new content (1080p instant-on from MS at E3, Blu-ray from Sony, XBL and PS store for dloads, etc.)
We thought it would be a nice weekly post where people can read a few recommendations about what's new, and if they so desire, watch one. There are so many new things being tossed up on all of those locations constantly, but nowhere that says "Hey gamers, you interested? Here's what you can watch."
And let me suggest that the thing that you watch is Donkey Punch. Most definitely NSFW.
Ashitaka @ Jun 19th 2009 8:50PM
Now we don't have to put up with your stupid comments. Don't worry Tom, we won't miss you.
Christopher Grant @ Jun 19th 2009 9:46PM
"Anyways I doubt you have any real control over what's posted since you guys are servants to AOL so I'm sure that may have something to do with it."
Uhhh... you ARE trolling. And you're banned. Don't come back.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 19th 2009 10:25PM
Wow, I finally got to witness a Sprinkles B&hammer. And I must say, its everything I ever imagined and more
Mr Khan @ Jun 19th 2009 11:36PM
Bets on how quick he'll come back.
$13 on this Tuesday
Slaziman @ Jun 20th 2009 12:19AM
OH shit, you had to scroll the mouse wheel one more rotation that you would've had to if this post wasn't here, oh the humanity!!!
Seriously guys? I don't give a damn about half the business news on Joystiq so I scroll past it, that's what headlines are for dummies.
Slaziman @ Jun 20th 2009 12:22AM
Also, I think this is a pretty neat feature.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 20th 2009 10:32AM
professionalism and objectiveness are overrated, I like feeling like the guy's giving me news are friends. For the most part, I like the "favoritism" too, I dont want nor expect any news sight to have unveiled the Wii Vitality sensor without a quip or mild animosity
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 20th 2009 11:00AM
That was golden. As much as he gets banned I rarely get to see it for some reason.
Sly @ Jun 20th 2009 2:46PM
it was beautiful. i finally witnessed a sprinkles banning. thank you chris grant for making my day.
and in regards to the post, it's nice to see joystiq branching out just a bit, but still staying in the gaming world.
Cosmo (formerly Chin-Poh) @ Jun 21st 2009 1:06PM
Apparently the ban didn't work sadly.
Hopper @ Jun 19th 2009 8:28PM
Donkey Punch!?!?!? Haha, that movie is AOL KEYWORD: THEWORST! Actually, any movie that involves a girl getting killed by a donkey punch is A+ in my book.
Brownjohn @ Jun 19th 2009 8:29PM
I nominate Gran Torino. It really was a wonderful movie, and something nobody should miss.
If you want to watch something for free, I recommend Troll 2 on Hulu: http://www.hulu.com/watch/31381/troll-2
Its one of the best-worst movies, a close second to Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Kevin Kelly @ Jun 19th 2009 8:36PM
In fact, Troll 2 is the subject of the movie, Best Worst Movie. Great stuff:
http://bestworstmovie.com/
bass1x @ Jun 19th 2009 8:47PM
Killer Klowns from Outer Space is nothing like troll2 killer klowns had awesome speical effects they really did go all out with the clowns and the quality of the customs shows not only that its got its moments and carrys the creepy weird silly mood quiet well it also has a sci fi vibe to it when they board the circus tent mothership gives some scary insight into the origin of the clown.overall a very watchable 80s flick.troll 2 is crap nothing about that movie is original or quality its unwatchable please dont compare a gem like kkfos to trolls2.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 19th 2009 10:09PM
SHAKMA!
j.howlett @ Jun 19th 2009 11:41PM
watch troll 1 for harry potter and harry potter jr. people turn into trees and woodland creatures
dylan @ Jun 20th 2009 1:34AM
Gran Torino was in my top 5 most hated films of all time. That kid had the acting talent of a walk on character in a soap opera.
Crimson_Ryan @ Jun 19th 2009 8:31PM
Gran Torino was an amazing movie.
Don't sell out Joystiq. I dig you guys too much.
Christopher Grant @ Jun 19th 2009 9:47PM
Sell out?
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 19th 2009 10:01PM
wtf, they're listing new releases they think we'd enjoy, they aren't being paid to tell us what to watch. Besides, joystiq is a for profit website owned by AOL. so you cant blame them. If they started taking cash for what games they report on then yeah id be worried, but this is nothing
JoeTheBlow @ Jun 19th 2009 8:32PM
Hey, its the gaming DEAD season, and the week after E3 so nothing is news, give Joystiq a break on his one.
I just wish they had NEW films on these services, going the cinema is such a fucking chore now, i'd pay lots of money to have new releases available on my HOME cinema, instead of the one with sticky floors.
Kevin Kelly @ Jun 19th 2009 8:37PM
It'll get there, one day. In fact some films are streaming to home services before they come out in theaters:
http://www.cinematical.com/2009/04/02/would-you-pay-for-this-girlfriend-early/
Diskoboy7 @ Jun 19th 2009 8:38PM
"This will make you think twice (or even a third time!) before getting on a boat with a stranger"
And "Dead Calm" does it even better. That movie still creeps me out.
Shagittarius @ Jun 19th 2009 9:06PM
Is this an XBox exclusive?
deathxrebirth @ Jun 19th 2009 9:43PM
Donkey Punch? Seriously? One of the WORST movies I have ever seen. Just god f-ing awful. The only thing I will agree with was that the soundtrack was not bad... I guess...
The only thing good about this movie is me and my gf were so bored halfway through it we decided to try out our own variations of 'sexual terms'.
Seriously Joystiq, I am all for this feature. It could be fun. But you already lost LOADS of credit points for leading with DP. Jeez...
