Raccoon City recreated in Left 4 Dead, full RE3 campaign on the way

Well, that didn't take long. The Left 4 Dead authoring tools have been available to the public for just over a month and an aspiring game creator known as Outatime is already injecting some Resident Evil into Valve's zombie kill-a-thon. Specifically, Outatime is creating an entire campaign based on Resdent Evil 3. One map of the campaign has already been released, Resident Evil's legendary locale, Raccoon City. The map includes lots of twists and turns and a super spiffy rendition of the Raccoon City Police Department.

It's not VALVe. It's Capcom. And it's not infringement either as it does not impact on the (What sales?) sales or value of Resident Evil 3. Nor is their commercial profit to be gained. Hell, if anything, this is fair use.

That's the most ridiculous legal analysis I've ever heard, Papa. Considering RE3 is an expressive work and this misappropriates pretty much all of it, a fair use defense would likely fail, especially considering Capcom /could/ enter the market. That's why many mods of this type run into legal trouble.

This has been in the works at least since the hacked SDK came out in January, thus the "quick" turnaround. In fact, Outatime's been at work on the Raccoon City map since _2006_, and expanded his plans from a single-map Raccoon City mod to a 6-map L4D campaign after the game came out.
Here's 70 screenshots of Outatime's work from January:

Outatime's wasn't even the first RE/L4D crossover announced. That goes to Bioh4zard 2, which seems to have vanished but had some locations modeled back in January as well.

This is awesome. Both games are awesome. The Redfields are awesome. Except Chris, who took steroids. That's not cool.
