Telltale: Episodic Day of the Tentacle is 'feasible'
Is Telltale single-handedly reinvigorating the point-and-click adventure genre with 15+ year old game licenses? Yeah, it is -- and you don't hear us complaining. First Sam & Max made a triumphant return in 3D and then E3 saw the announcement of a new episodic Monkey Island series from the studio. Now, talking to Videogamer.com, Telltale's CEO Dan Connors said that "feasible is a good word" when asked about the chances of an episodic Day of the Tentacle series.
"I always think of Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island as the big three franchises," Connors continued. Seeing as two of the three are under the company's belt already, that makes DOTT the logical next step, but it's "having a 'wait and see' approach with Monkey." So if you want a new Day of the Tentacle series, you'd better buy -- and enjoy! -- The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Tales of Monkey Island and help usher in the next golden age of point and clicks.

Day Of The Tentacle had Maniac Mansion included within the game, so... I'd expect it to still be in there.

Absolutely right.

"......Or we'll find you, and punch you in the most delicate parts." I believe is the end of that post.

I already pre-ordered the Tales of Monkey Island, I would get this in a heart beat.

I'm ashamed to say that I've never played Maniac Mansion OR Day of the Tentacle. But, I've played the first three Monkey Island games, Full Throttle, The Dig, and Grim Fandango!
MLS @ Jun 19th 2009 1:44PM
I've only played Manic Mansion, but all the typing with the NES pad drove me nuts. I love today's DS adventure games though, so going back to these would be great.

I'm a big fan of Monkey Island, Sam and Max, Beneath a Steel Sky, etc, but I never played this one. Guess this is one I should get round to playing, either way, Telltale are great, I'm willing to buy anything they make.
arisc2 @ Jun 19th 2009 3:51PM
seriously dude, you have NO IDEA what you have missed!!!! DOT is probably one of the greatest and funniest games in history. Really if you have the opportunity don´t miss it, it´s a masterpiece. Geez i even feel a little bit of envy knowing that you can play it without knowing anything of the story. :D
how_much_I_carrot @ Jun 19th 2009 2:01PM
whoa there... let's first see how they do with Monkey Island

no grim fandango love? :/
Christian Velasquez @ Jun 19th 2009 2:27PM
Remakes of both Maniac Mansion would be pretty sweet. Especially if both are to be possibly re-released for PC/DS

Is the excitement for these adventure games purely a Joystiq thing, or is it representative of the gaming community as a whole?
Don't get me wrong - I'll be buying MI at least because I absolutely adore the series. I'm just curious.
I guess you could say that I'm MI-Curious.

I've always wanted to play the original DotT, I loved the first Maniac Mansion on NES. I'm not so sure about episodic, though, I'd rather play the original games first. We will have to check out Monkey Island and see if Telltale is as good as Lucasarts was.
arisc2 @ Jun 19th 2009 3:53PM
a remake would be great but i´d LOVE to see a brand new maniac mansion game, and please bring all the gang back i really want to see guys like: bernard, sandy, wendy, razor, dave and all the others!!!!! i just hope they decide to do a new maniac mansion game not only a remake.
Lucky @ Jun 19th 2009 4:09PM
*melts* DOTT is both my first PC game and my all-time favourite adventure game.
AwesomeTown @ Jun 19th 2009 5:26PM
mmmm, Hoagie.

Mr. Connors, I really hope you're reading this comment section. I would sell body parts for new Day Of The Tentacle content if that's what it came down to.
However, if you really want these Monkey Island (and hopefully Day of The Tentacle, Grim Fandango, etc etc etc) games to be a true success, ***RELEASE THEM ON THE XBOX 360 AND THE PS3***.
Someone in your company finally saw the light and gave us Sam And Max, now PLEASE keep the train a rollin' with Tales Of Monkey Island. Especially on the 360, as you look at some of the top sellers on the arcade are "core" games (to use today's hot buzzword) such as these, and I know sales of Tales would be incredible on the 360. Just wait and see how awesome the Secret Of Monkey Island remake is going to do.
_LarZen_ @ Jun 19th 2009 5:27PM
Hope it happens...for Pc,PS3,X360 and the Wii! EVERYONE should be able to play these games :D
