WRUP: Who's your daddy edition?

[Image]
- Alexander Sliwinski (@XanderSliwinski): It's a toss-up between finally getting into Fallout 3: Broken Steel or grabbing Metal Gear Solid from PSN. Oops, I also have Prototype from GameFly. I'm so torn about that game after playing inFamous.
- Andrew Yoon: I got some more games in this week, but to be honest, I just want to play
"sleeping: the game." - Ben Gilbert (@BigBossBgilbert): In a weekend spent shuffling various family members around Philly, I'll be sneaking any time I can in with the remaining hours of Fallout 3 and the beginning stages of Mass Effect. Chris is also forcing me to play Sam & Max Hit the Road on ScummVM, so there's that. Any of you folks out there wanna explain how I make it work on my iPhone (legally)? That'd be golden!
- Christopher Grant (@ChrisGrant): I've finally picked up Resident Evil 5, so Engadget EIC JoshTops and I are playing co-op, leaving a trail of (un)dead in our wake. So far, so good. Besides that, I've got a real hankering to pick up Red Faction: Guerilla after Bill Harris demanded that I do. Suggestions?
- David Hinkle (@DaveHinkle): ...
- Dustin Burg (@SuperDunner): Playing both Prototype and Halo 3 until my nose bleeds with gaming joy.
- Griffin McElroy (@griffinmcelroy): Chipping away at the giant stone obelisk known as Final Fantasy VII. I've almost reached the part where I quit playing a decade ago!
- James Ransom-Wiley: Tap-gaming on my iPhone Slow while in transit this weekend.
- Jason Dobson (@eToyChest): While embroiled in a legal fencing match with a local mortgage firm, like Ben I'll be revisiting my roots, waxing musical with my son in a little game called Loom.
- Jem Alexander (@Yembles): ...
- JC Fletcher (@jcfletcher): I feel like playing some classic music games this weekend. I'll probably play through Parappa the Rapper and Um Jammer Lammy a couple of times, and then get out my turntable for some vintage Beatmania. I've had the game since about 1998, but the method I use to play imports on my PlayStation doesn't allow me to swap discs, so I've never played any of the songs on the append disc that came with it!
- Justin McElroy (@JustinMcElroy): ...
- Kevin Kelly (@gadgetguy): I'm playing "Let's go camping!" and also lots of Starcraft to prepare for a Starcraft 2 megabarrage on Monday.
- Ludwig Kietzmann (@LudwigK): ....
- Majed Athab: I hate games. I mean, I have games... yeah, that's what I meant.
- Randy Nelson (@DangerPenguin): I'm going to play the most dangerous game. Yes: Mario Kart Wii, using the steering wheel, while balancing on a tightrope over the Grand Canyon -- without a net. What do you mean you thought I was going to hunt humans? That's crazy!
- Richard Mitchell (@SenseiRAM): Behold, for I am screwed. I'm currently playing Prototype, Sam & Max Save the World (XBLA), Plants vs Zombies and I just started another new character in Oblivion. And I just started reading The Shining. I'm doomed, but in a good way.
- Xav de Matos (@Xav): Nothing. Sick... and super annoyed.
- Justin Glow (@justinglow): (Joystiq will be nursing from him all weekend.)

Me and my friend traded consoles for the week(end?) so he gets Prototype, Halo and Gears, and I finally get to play Killzone 2, Infamous and MGS4!!! Wooo! Maybe if i can blow through them fast then i'll rent resistance and ratchet too!
InFaMoUs1- @ Jun 19th 2009 10:12PM
damn you have ALOT of games to play then huh? I hope you get to try out Flower. Flower is a great PSN game and an experience like no other.. trust me
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jun 19th 2009 10:15PM
haha good luck
You wont get far (this weekend?) unless you skip the MGS4 cut scenes and play Killzone 2 on easy
Sly @ Jun 19th 2009 10:20PM
my advice: DON'T skip the cutscenes and play killzone on easy. and play infamous on whatever because it's not terribly difficult either way.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 19th 2009 10:43PM
Try to pass as fast Killzone 2 chapters 1 to 5 on easy as fast as you can and try adjusting your tv settings to get the most out of the graphics. From Chapter 6 and ahead the game is great, try playing on hard after chapter 5 but be warned that Radec is cheap so in the last fight place the sensibility at the top and don’t bother with the shotgun.
MGS4 can only be beat in less than a weekend if you know what to do otherwise I would play InFamous instead .You could spend the whole weekend MGS4 alone.
My PS ID is F102_Crossfire if anyone wants to play Kz2 or LBP online.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 19th 2009 11:06PM
i dont think im gonna play MGS4 because ive never played any others, and I dont want to be completely lost. I wont get to experience everything until tomorrow because he only gave me his AV cables instead of HDMI : / so the brilliance of KZ2, the only one i have to play, will be lost on me for teh night
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 19th 2009 11:09PM
i should have mentioned he makes heavy use of gamefly, so I have to rent everything but LBP and MGS4
Iroquois @ Jun 19th 2009 11:44PM
Yeah MGS4 might be a bad place to start with the series. Not to say is isn't great. It just might confuse you. Hey, you know number 1 was re-released on PSN. download that for your friend's sake and play it instead of 4 lol.
Or if you want to play them in chronological order, play MGS3 first. Then 1. Then 2.
InFaMoUs1- @ Jun 20th 2009 12:19AM
NOOOO PLAY MGS4!!! Trust me i never played MGS1 or 2 only 3 and i loved it even though i didnt understand most of it
Alistair Azimuth PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Jun 20th 2009 12:45AM
MGS 4 is pure gaming majesty. If you have some intelligence and you can think things through the story will make sense. I expect nothing less from a someone with a billion dollars! In all seriousness you should play MGS 4 because the game is just awesome. I can understand why some people don't like the long cut scenes but the game is just so damn epic.
I would say you should play (not in any order) Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Heavenly Sword, Resistance 2, MGS 4 and ratchet and clank future tools of destruction as they are some of the best ps3 exclusives. There are other ones but those are some of the best games.
Alistair Azimuth PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Jun 20th 2009 12:47AM
forgot about Infamous ... another one you should consider playing.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 20th 2009 1:23AM
Oh my God, KZ2 is making me sad I dont have a PS3. This is exactly what ive been looking for! Ever since Quantum of Solace and RSV2 ive felt like any fps i play NEEDED a cover system, but didnt necessarily want 3rd person, and KZ2 does it perfect! Why dont more FPS' do this!?
ohyeahcola @ Jun 20th 2009 3:05AM
the only bad part of KZ2 is you feel like a fatass running around a battlefield
PR0F3TA @ Jun 20th 2009 3:29AM
Dude you HAVE to play InFamous. i been addicted to it since it came out
thecmoneyshow @ Jun 20th 2009 9:03AM
Is it just me or does anybody else get bothered by the fact that your character seems about a foot shorter than everyone else in KZ2?
Sly @ Jun 20th 2009 10:38AM
@thecmoneyshow
i thought i was the only one that noticed... in cutscenes, you look like you're at everyone else's level, but when you walk right up to them, your face is at their chests. it's weird...
Babel @ Jun 20th 2009 5:32PM
Haha, yeah, it's so true. It ruins the feeling of 'badassness' slightly when, after slaughtering a hundred Helghast, you find yourself barely reaching the chin of your teammates.
Still, I'd recommend playing MGS4 - even if you only play the first few chapters, you'll get an idea of just how incredible the game is. Skip the cutscenes if necessary!
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 20th 2009 6:30PM
There is something you have to know about InFamous,there is virtually no diference between easy or hard and I don't mean the game is easy,the game is really,really hard so easy as good as hard.
Donald @ Jun 19th 2009 10:03PM
I'll be playing "1337 H4X0R" this weekend, attempting to remix one of my addictions. I'd say more but don't want to bring down the wrath of the banhammer.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2009 10:10PM
I'd like to be playing GT5 Prologue which I just bought, but I'll be spending most of my weekend finishing up my psychology paper for my degree that's due next month. In case anyone missed what I said a couple days ago, the reason why I was upping the trolling for a while now is because I was studying human behavior so I was purposely pressing buttons. I also had to interview a neo-nazi in a local prison which wasn't the best time I've ever had, as well as going to a mental hospital and studying the crazies there. But yeah the real me doesn't even hate nintendo, I don't like them or hate them but I'll be picking up a wii for sure this time around Christmas.
So sorry for putting you all through hell :P
On a side note, I'm loving my new 120gb drive. It's so nice not having to delete DLC or xbox Originals because of space anymore :D
Sly @ Jun 19th 2009 10:25PM
so what was the neo nazi like?
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 19th 2009 10:28PM
is it anything like American History X makes it out to be?
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2009 10:31PM
Well this guy in particular was in prison for double murder of a jewish family, so yeah I guess you could say he's like what you would picture one to be. Incidentally, he had some really funny jokes..or at least they would be if anyone else was telling them. It's kinda different when a jew hater's telling them. It was hard not letting a chuckle out, I had to keep my Brian Williams face on.
Chad Vanderbilt (Moptimus in Disguise) @ Jun 19th 2009 10:38PM
were they really cheesy like "My grandpa died in a concentration camp. He fell off a guard tower" or "Knock knock. Whos there? Zionists with a plot to take over our government"
I swear, if I have to hear those jokes one more time.....
WREturns @ Jun 19th 2009 10:39PM
So do you mention anyone in your paper by name?
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2009 10:44PM
Nah they were mostly jokes I never heard of, but I'm not going to repeat them here cause they were pretty mean.
I didn't mention anyone from here by name on the paper, but I will tell you I studied the bigger irrational fanboys here (as well as others) like Sprinkles, Killjebus and Curmeo back when he was here all the time. It was...interesting to say the least.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 19th 2009 10:47PM
"The reason why I was upping the trolling for a while now is because I was studying human behavior so I was purposely pressing buttons".
Wow you must had been working on that since you started posting.
http://instantrimshot.com/
Ha ha try the veil.
Now that interviewing a Neo nazi,wow that sounds quite disturbing actually.
Sly @ Jun 19th 2009 10:49PM
did you include cody? i was expecting him to be right after sprinkles for you...
and for some reason, i really want to meet that neo nazi dude. i have this weird obsession with picking people's minds. his one would be an interesting one to pick.
Sly @ Jun 19th 2009 10:52PM
oh, and were you doing online human behavior? because if you weren't, i would find your paper quite strange.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2009 10:56PM
@Mr Esc
You joke, but you're not too far off honestly. I've been working on this for a good 9 months now.
@Sly
Nah Cody came along too far in the process for me to use him. I had my prime subjects picked already and they gave me a hell of a lot of good stuff. If I get a good score for this I might actually have to thank people like Sprinkles.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2009 10:58PM
Yeah online behavior was part of it. Why people act differently or in some cases why they act their "true selves" online, meaning they act how they really want to but don't in real society.
The Dark Wayne @ Jun 19th 2009 11:08PM
you didnt mention how there's some crazy that thinks he's Batman? That's A+ material right there
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 19th 2009 11:12PM
Some questions :
Why here of all places? All you are going to find are either man children or children with some exceptions and I doubt you are working on child psychology.
Have you tried this outside or you are worried someone might want to kick your ass if you press their buttons too much?
Have you assisted another psychologist for the EXP(field experience)?
Mr Khan @ Jun 19th 2009 11:19PM
fascinating. Also rather bizarre, though you did seem to care quite a bit for someone so... apathetic.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2009 11:22PM
1. I was already a member for a little while here and some of the people seemed like easy targets
2. I admit I toyed around with my friends a bit but nothing too serious (don't want to fracture friendships haha) but for th emost part it was just messing with you guys :P
3. Nope I was on my own for this whole thing. Had to schedule my own meetings and everything, which wasn't easy as people don't just want anyone wandering in to prisons and mental hospitals getting in their way and stuff.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 19th 2009 11:24PM
@Mr Khan
Haha it's easy to act when you guys can't see me cracking up from all the fights I got myself into.
Mr Khan @ Jun 19th 2009 11:29PM
@ tmac. Cody was active here before, under the monicker of LilCo. Though he was more Nintendo fan and less Microsoft hater back then, but the similarities are all there, aside from the similarity of name. He was banned in a flamewar with Johnny, back when his name was John McPoop. Oddly, Johnny also took a significant hiatus from this site after that
Him being a huge fan of Florida sports and such was a dead give
Alistair Azimuth PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Jun 19th 2009 11:59PM
@Khan
Yeah I think he simply went by the name "Co" at that time and got all pissed when I would say my kids get most of the time out of the Wii. I probably said a little more than that (I was more fervent at the time for whatever reason) but it was never to get under his skin it was just what was up at the time.
I also got banned for giving my thoughts on homosexuality in that gay gamer thread a while back. I didn't think it was justified because I was completely respectful and just stated my opinions. Why post such controversial shit if you aren't going to let people talk about it? Whatever but I can say for sure that banning wasn't justified. The other time I got banned was from another AOL blog when I called out the editor on some other stuff. That was pretty much a justified banning but it wasn't from anything at Joystiq.
@T-Mac
I guess this explains why your big announcement that we hyped up was a fucking book instead of a few simple lines. You should post that paper up for everyone here to read ... you kind of owe that much to the animal house that gave you a lot of material. I never had anything against you and this doesn't change anything as long as you stay true to who you are. Ok so the Nintendo stuff was trolling and to get a reaction to study behavior but certainly your entire persona wasn't a lie? was it?
Good luck on the paper dude ... cool stuff.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 20th 2009 12:06AM
Nope the only thing I really put an act on was with the nintendo stuff. Honestly I get as frustrated with them as just about everyone does but I do like some of their franchises still. I'm still the huge hardcore gamer I said I was, just not as much of an asshole :P
Sly @ Jun 20th 2009 12:14AM
"I guess this explains why your big announcement that we hyped up was a fucking book instead of a few simple lines"
ugh, that fiasco... that was hilarious though, i'll admit. all that hype just for tmac to go and ruin it by making the reveal as long as a press release lol... good times, good times.
Slaziman @ Jun 20th 2009 12:48AM
No Velsar? That must be the craziest motherfucker I've seen on Joystiq, but he didn't post a lot so I guess you couldn't use him.
I really wanna see this paper now, can you post it sometime after you've turned it in?
OnToGloryReturns @ Jun 20th 2009 12:51AM
"as well as going to a mental hospital and studying the crazies there"
So you met Spinkles?
Slaziman @ Jun 20th 2009 12:52AM
Also what was tmac's announcement? I remember reading about it but never saw the conclusion.
Slaziman @ Jun 20th 2009 12:56AM
I mean WHERE
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jun 20th 2009 1:17AM
i too want to see this report
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 20th 2009 1:20AM
I don't think I was one of those targets because I don't remember that we ever exchanged words but if you are stabbingword not cool man,not cool.
Sly @ Jun 20th 2009 1:34AM
slaziman and marius, it was on some WRUP a few months back.
Sly @ Jun 20th 2009 1:38AM
here we go, i found it.
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/27/wrup-home-vs-away/

@Slaziman
I thought Velsar was sprinkles
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jun 20th 2009 2:06AM
@Sly
I meant the report he is writing
because as you can see I was well aware of that "announcement" .......(by that I mean read my sarcastic comment)
