EA official site lists PS3 version of Left 4 Dead 2
It's no secret that Valve isn't a big fan of the PS3. When the company revealed Left 4 Dead 2 as an Xbox 360/PC exclusive, no one acted surprised. However, PS3 may be getting its own version of the multiplayer FPS if the official EA website is to be believed. Not only is PS3 listed in the "Coming Soon" section of the site, but a quick glance of EA's games page reveals placeholder box art for the game as well. This could be a sign that EA is working on a PS3 port; the company did work on the PS3 version of The Orange Box.
Or, it could be a database error. A PS3 version of the original Left 4 Dead was rumored after an accidental listing was placed on retailer HMV's website. That, for those of you keeping track, didn't come to fruition.
Update: The EA website has since been updated and no longer includes the PS3 listing. Thanks to everyone who sent in the update!

it's not on ps3. they just took it off the web site now. dammit! i was excited! @#$$ 2#$%# 3%!!!
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jun 20th 2009 8:08PM
I would not be surprised if part of the reason for L4D being replaced by L4D2 so quickly is to avoid some kind of exclusivity agreement. But then again, I wouldn't count on it either.
joe @ Jun 20th 2009 8:36PM
Newell: We’re always going look at what makes sense to do and how to manage that transition. You have these complicated situations and on PC it’s not so bad. On the Xbox it’s a lot more complicated because you can’t guarantee that people have all of the right content given their DLC model, where some people might have some content and others not, which makes it end of up with this weird, complicated thing where this person has this, and this person has this. Where as on the PC we can assume that people have everything. So, we’re trying to get that fixed because they’re sort of cramping our ability to push more free content into customer’s hands when we aren’t sure which free content they have right? And the stuff that you’re allowed to require customer’s to have on the Xbox, it’s only 8MB. That’s the maximum size you can ever change. So, we do that with the first minor update that we do. We’re trying to figure out how to manage that.
So, those are the things we’re sort of struggling with. These constraints on the Xbox. We can release new content on the PC and know that 100% of the customers have it so we don’t have to worry about splitting up our user base into those people who have this weapon and those people who don’t. On the Xbox you don’t have that luxury, where some people could have half the weapons, but not the other weapons. And you don’t know. Every person can be unique. So what we’d really like to do on the Xbox is work with Microsoft so that we can do exactly the same thing that we do with PC users and say hey, everything’s free and everybody always has that. The one problem would be the people who don’t have hard drives and what we would do with them is just orphan them to the first initial release and they can play against all those other people who don’t have hard drives. Everybody who has a hard drive will be up-to-date all the time, the same way the

Hey joe, can you post a link to that?
d889 @ Jun 21st 2009 1:37PM
its simple, left 4 dead took practically no development time, it sold for $60 ... cha-ching.
valve already made a killing with the half-life episodes .... doesnt anyone else see the pattern?
left 4 dead: episode 2
i think L4D is a cool game, but i never thought it was worth full retail price, and now what a joke here comes the exact same game but different colored models and different weapons ... wow i'm sure that took a lot of effort.
TekkenDevil @ Jun 21st 2009 9:50PM
Agreed with d889!
After the epic content for a simple game like TF2, you'd think they would, Idunno.... do this for Left 4 Dead?
New environment, special infecteds, weapons and survivors.
EXACTLY WHAT WE HAVE EXPECTED TO KEEP THE FIRST ONE ALIVE.
Not to mention they even dropped the release of L4D SDK. All there is, is a cruel beta. It was supposed to be out months ago.
But it's their problem.
Tons of people now discovered that Valve has joined the Corporate Bandwagon, and surely there will be alot less purchases, and greatly less release-day purchases.
Furthermore, some people JUST GOT AROUND TO BUYING L4D1 to begin with, and now they need to buy the second one? In Fall? For recycled gameplay?
Are you kidding me, everyone will be busy saving up money for other, better games announced in E3.
And lastly, not everyone is down with having to get their PC up-to-date with yet another source engine update.
Low end PC's that could just about play L4D with an acceptable fps are now totally boned.
Just WHAT were they thinking?
Until we figure out, this theory will make the most sense:
Microsoft doesn't like free DLC, but Valve can't be biased with having free PC add-ons, therefore they make L4D2, to please Xbox-ers and trick PC owners.
Personally, this is more reason for me to hate Microsoft, but whatever floats your boat.
Lambrick @ Jun 20th 2009 8:08PM
by gum i hope that listing isn't a database error. left 4 dead on PS3 could rock SO MUCH.
ZaxCG2 @ Jun 20th 2009 9:25PM
Rock as hard as TF2 for PS3?
Do yourself a favor and pick this up for PC even if your machine barely makes it over system requirements. The game will be getting tons of user-created content, too. PC ONLY.
ZaxCG2 @ Jun 20th 2009 9:30PM
Didn't mean to sound too mean... if you don't have all that great of a PC, BY ALL MEANS, BE EXCITED!
Lambrick @ Jun 20th 2009 10:14PM
i don't, so i will. there you go.
JoeTheBlow @ Jun 21st 2009 11:17AM
I have it for PC, and it runs great, but i'd pick up the PS3 version in a second.
Playing games on the console is just more comfortable.
Getting quite sick of mouse and keyboard now, use them all day in work, don't need more of it when i get home.
EA would be massive idiots to NOT do a port, it'd be huge. PS3 owners like shooting zombies in the face as much as anyone.
The Baron @ Jun 21st 2009 12:31PM
..given the choice, you would rather play a VALVE game on the PS3?
Papa Midnight @ Jun 21st 2009 2:23PM
Considering Microsoft and Sony are entirely different animals when it comes to end-user created content and that Sony actually allows you to use a Keyboard and Mouse, yes, I would play it on the PS3. Considering I don't have neither a 360 or a PS3 and have a PC, the point is moot.
The Baron @ Jun 22nd 2009 6:06PM
The only PS3 game with mouse and keyboard or mod support is UT3. There are vritually no mods on there and I very much doubt Valve would go down the same road.
dork1337 @ Jun 20th 2009 8:08PM
did they even support orange box on the ps3?
Sly @ Jun 20th 2009 8:32PM
no, it was like the red-headed stepchild of EA / valve.
Hyams @ Jun 20th 2009 8:09PM
Please be true, please be true, please be true.
... probably isn't though. Microsoft announced it as an exclusive only twenty days ago.
wallywallas @ Jun 20th 2009 8:22PM
The problem is, they announced MGS: Rising as an exclusive for the 360 also... so you can't really believe anything MS says.
Hyams @ Jun 20th 2009 8:26PM
MGS: Rising wasn't announced in the '360 exclusives' slot.
L4D2 was.
ohyeahcola @ Jun 20th 2009 8:27PM
its not exclusive if its for PC
Hyams @ Jun 20th 2009 8:29PM
It's still an exclusive when it comes to talking about consoles, though.
Vidikron @ Jun 20th 2009 8:32PM
"MGS: Rising wasn't announced in the '360 exclusives' slot. "
Actually, it sort of was. At one point during their keynote they said that everything from this point foward is exclusive to the 360... and MGS:R was after that point. So if there was a point where they exclusive game announcements were supposed to have stopped, they didn't clearly define it. MANY people were confused by this.
Hyams @ Jun 20th 2009 8:34PM
But they also said, "And that was the 360 exclusives" at the end of the section; then they talked about something else (can't remember what), and *then* they talked about Rising.
What they basically did was a verbal recreation of HTML or BB code tagging.
[Exclusives]Crackdown 2! Left4Dead 2! Splinter Cell! Alan Wake! Etc![/Exclusives]
MGS: Rising!
MaliceMajorE15 @ Jun 20th 2009 8:35PM
you know if it was coming then there is not a chance on earth that sony would have passed up an opportunity to at least mention it at E3. if its coming out in the fall then surely work on it began a while ago.
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jun 20th 2009 8:36PM
You could probably make an argument about it being a Microsoft exclusive, since PC typically means only Windows is supported.
At least, I don't think there's an official Mac or Linux version of L4D...
Regardless, this would definitely be good news for PS3 owners who don't have PCs capable of running L4D well.
Hyams @ Jun 20th 2009 8:37PM
But yeah, after making a big deal about "everything you see after this point will be a 360 exclusive!", the "and that was the 360 exclusives..." comment was pretty quickly brushed over.
They obviously set it up like that on purpose, to confuse people about MGS: Rising's exclusivity, but they never *technically* announced it as being an exclusive.
L4D2 is in a completely different position, though.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jun 20th 2009 9:22PM
EA isn't Valve so why not although prepare yourself for a lot of glitches.
Seriously any computer nowadays can run L4D and the PC version gets more content why not buy the PC version instead? Not to mention is cheaper.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jun 20th 2009 9:23PM
Maybe it's just a threat for Microsoft: "Cough up the exclusive cash or else!" When Microsoft notices how much interest it is getting they will pay and all this will be explained as a database error.
In which case, the best thing we can do is to seem really uninterested in the game. Left 4 ...what you say?
Hyams @ Jun 20th 2009 9:37PM
My laptop isn't very good for gaming. Not sure how well it'd be able to run Left4Dead.
ToTheMoon @ Jun 20th 2009 9:44PM
Sorry to be a stickler, but I grew up with the word "exclusive" meaning the following:
(First 10 definitions taken from dictionary.com from the word exclusive)...
1. not admitting of something else; incompatible: mutually exclusive plans of action.
2. omitting from consideration or account (often fol. by of): a profit of ten percent, exclusive of taxes.
3. limited to the object or objects designated: exclusive attention to business.
4. shutting out all others from a part or share: an exclusive right to film the novel.
5. fashionable; stylish: to patronize only the most exclusive designers.
6. charging comparatively high prices; expensive: exclusive shops.
7. noting that in which no others have a share: exclusive information.
8. single or sole: the exclusive means of communication between two places.
9. disposed to resist the admission of outsiders to association, intimacy, etc.: an exclusive circle of intimate friends.
10. admitting only members of a socially restricted or very carefully selected group: an exclusive club.
Now to me, Halo 3 is currently an exclusive because I cannot play it ANYWHERE else. Infamous is an exclusive because I cannot play it ANYWHERE else.
Left for Dead 2 will not be exclusive because I can CHOOSE to play it either on a 360 or a PC. Team Fortress 2 is not an exclusive because I can choose to play it on a PC or a 360. I think some people are getting mislead by some "creative" people in marketing departments. Those same people would probably not pass a basic English test and their former teachers are probably shaking their heads wondering "where did we go wrong"?
Alistair Azimuth PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Jun 21st 2009 12:24AM
If I had to bet I would L4D 2 is a timed exclusive. I would also say Mass Effect 2 will be a timed exclusive based on some of the language from the developers saying the plan is to have an exclusivity for the 360. It's EA that is publishing these games so I would imagine they have some influence over what is and isn't exclusive.
Einhanderkiller @ Jun 21st 2009 3:26AM
"It's still an exclusive when it comes to talking about consoles, though."
The problem with that logic is that it makes pretty much every game on the PC a PC exclusive.
Peter @ Jun 21st 2009 6:51AM
I'd guess that Halo 3 will be out on PC too.
E.J. @ Jun 20th 2009 8:09PM
this would be a great addition to the PS3 library.
now if everyone had a bluetooth headset....
L4D2 special edition SKU! you heard it here first!
ch3lo_91 @ Jun 20th 2009 8:40PM
Now all I need is Mass Effect and a Gears port on PS3 and I'll be happy. But the latter is unlikely =(
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jun 22nd 2009 7:48AM
I like the fact that many people on the PSN don't have a headset. Sure, team communication suffers, but at least you don't have to hear as many 12-year-old twatbombs talking trash or 6 hours' worth of rap music buzzing in your ear.
Teph @ Jun 22nd 2009 11:15AM
If only you had a way to mute such annoying people.
Oh wait...
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 20th 2009 8:10PM
Last thing 360 needs is to lose some of the few exclusives they have coming. First lost planet 2 now this. Get those first party studios moving!
InFaMoUs1- @ Jun 20th 2009 8:43PM
lolwut 1st Party Studios?
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 20th 2009 8:47PM
Good point. I think Rare and Lionhead are too busy working on Natal crap and they dont' really have much more than those guys.
I think this knocks them down to 3 exclusives for the rest of the year and I think 4 for the whole year :\
Foetoid @ Jun 20th 2009 9:19PM
Huh? There are tons of exclusives on the near-horizon:
The Conduit
RE: Darkside Chronicles
A Boy And His Blob
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Overlord: Dark Legend
Sadness
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M
Need for Speed Nitro
New Super Mario Bros
Dead Space: Extraction
Wii Sports Resort
Sin and Punishment 2
Red Steel 2
FF:CC My Life As A Darklord
FF:CC The Crystal Bearers
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Fragile
Monado: The Beginning of the World
Monster Hunter 3
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
No More Heroes 2
...................oh damn, you meant 360. Well um, good luck with that!
Why am i trolling? It feels kinda icky. Like i'm becoming the anti-tmac.

Do you remember Haze, Foetoid?
Bradwart @ Jun 21st 2009 11:36AM
@InFaMoUs1
First party studios for MS? Well, there is Bungi...oh wait, nope. There's Ensemble St...nope, not them either. I guess there is ACES, wait, sorry. There's Rare, who hasn't produced a decent game worth owning since 2001, with Conker on the N64, but who are busy makng crap for Projekt Fa1ltal, and there's Lionhead, again busy making crap, and there's Turn 10, with Forza 3. So three studios that could produce real first party titles, but two aren't. 33 1/3 percent success rate.
Sony's got Guerilla, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Team ICO, Polyphony Digital, Zipper Interactive, Santa Monica Studio, and more, and 6 of those 7 listed have or will deliver an exclusive, blockbuster title within a year.
