Picked up by way of the Gamertag Radio forums from the alleged Twitter account of Tekken 6 -- we know, we know -- it was confirmed this afternoon that the image you see above of Penny Arcade's Cardboard Tube Samurai is, in fact, the real deal. Where, you ask? Well, of course, Mike "Gabe" Krahulik's Twitter account, where he twote, "Yes this is for real. Cts costume will be in Tekken 6!"
He is, of course, referring to the Cardboard Tube Samurai and probably not the cartoon time-traveling simulator we already know will include everything in the universe. Take a look after the break for the exciting Twitter snapshot where Gabe revealed the truth.

It's not awesome because it's the CTS, I don't think that many people like CTS relative to those that do.
However, the fact that a subculture has penetrated another subculture is awesome. I don't really care that it's the CTS, for instance, if it was a rickroll getting into Rock Band, that'd be awesome. Or if it was Longcat making it into Scribblenauts (oh wait!)... It's just great to see two similar subcultures reference one another. Especially the more mainstream doing the less mainstream.

I love CTS... it's not funny, (except the context of him killing people with a cardboard tube) but it's done in such a classic way, with minimal dialogue, subtle storytelling techniques, and gorgeous art. I don't really see what there is not to like.
But I also agree with hydrophobicfish: subculture crossover is awesome always.

It's awesome because it's the CTS. It's not awesome because it's in Tekken instead of Soul Calibur.

well....ok, fine. The sub-culture overlapping is pretty sweet...as long as the CTS doesn't have too high of a power level.

Love PA, dislike CTS (or any of their quote unquote serious stuff).

I love how small little debates like this start from such a short, simple, and perhaps stupid statement. Though to be honest the reason I find this awesome is actually exactly what hydrophobicfish said. Also I'm a fan of nearly all comics so I really don't understand why there is hate towards Penny Arcade. I grew up reading comic strips rather than comic books (sorry Wayne I've only heard the tales of your adventures, so I've never read your chronicles of awesomeness.)
I've already read the best comic strip series there ever was and quite possibly will be and no one will ever top it so I generally accept every other comic strip as just funny strips. Some may be bad but there is lots to laugh at in and series. Except CAD. Halfway through reading those archives I just gave up.

They aren't funny, you get the cultural reference, it's about as funny as going, "I remember Portal", or, "Hey, I watched E3 too". Too much conversation about stuff, no actual attempt at humour. Well, occasionally. Not often enough.

A couple of weeks ago, I hated the Tekken series, considered it to be legacy, stagnating. Over those weeks... things changed freakin' fast.

What Peter said. They try too hard and too obviously to incorporate current gaming events, usually finishing with the obvious punchline or no real punchline at all. They do have the capability to be funny as hell - they just don't try very hard.

Is it a totally new character, or a possible variant costume for an already existing fighter?

Great achievement by the PA guys too.

On the one hand, it's kind of awesome that CTS will be in Tekken. On the other hand, it's kind of sad that Namco has to resort to having "CUUURAZY" guest characters in their fighting games to get people interested in them.

Agree, Link was the only good crossover character in my opinion and even that was probably a stretch. The Star Wars dudes in SC4 were an abomination.

It boggles the mind that people find Penny Arcade even remotely funny or enlightening.
The tube ninja is very them, not particularly funny, just a cultural reference.

Are you just so on top of everything that's great. You must be a brooding individual. I'm glad to have read your comment because it was both informative AND creative.
Oh, and you have "Goth" in your name, and it's so refreshing to see someone who is willing to label themselves these days. People trying to be individuals, thes days, it's becoming a burden.
Seriously, thanks.

No, thank you for your tirade against labelling, you would never label yourself, would you dmbrandon?
... and Penny Arcade is still just cultural references and not funny.

Why is it that cultural references can't be funny?
Half of all jokes (stand-up comedians, radio hosts, etc) lean on cultural references for their jokes... YES, it's often quite funny. George Carlin's used cultural reference... was he not funny?
Why all the hate?
Also, you've made it quite clear here that you don't think PA is funny. So you can drop the "I'm the definitive authority on what's funny and PA isn't" act. It's tired and pretentious.

I think Tekken, Soul calibur, Virtual Fighter in fact all 3d fighters should take a 5 year hiatus from releasing new games.
These improvements from the predecessors are not massive . They need to take time and really make something special and unique and improve upon the genre. New levels and characters are should not be sufficient to release a new title.
3d fighters have grown stagnant over the last few years and focused on cheap gimmicks to excuse sequels. (Cardboard Tube Samurai, Darth Vader are prime examples) A quantum leap in game design is now desperately needed.

When Penny Arcade has as good art and is as funny as VGCats, and when it demonstrates even the remotest inkling of knowledge about games, then I'll want Penny Arcade involved.

The Cardboard Tube Samurai? Is that it's real name? If so that must be one cool-ass birth certificate!

Still waiting for Tekken 6 PS3, but I don't know this time around that Tekken 6 will be a good game. People should check how IGN rate Tekken 5 DR as a last gen fighting game.
I like Tekken 1 - 4 5 on the PSP, that was a long time ago.
Well I brought Street Fighter 4, I will as well buy Tekken 6 just to be my collection, and that all

You're right, Vgcats is usually more funny than the average PA comic. But when was the last time VGcats updated? Yeah about a month ago, the update before that? about a month. PA got to where they are because they act professional. Its a job to them, scott ramasoir doesn't live off of his comics.
Also, not liking the art in PA is just an objective opinion. I prefer Mike's art compared to VGcats "hey look its an anime cartoon" style

Um ... subjective opinion ;P
... and they don't update often. So what? I don't see the big deal. It's better than Penny Arcade.

I still remember how bad their art used to be.
