Japanese hardware sales, June 8 - June 14: Father figure edition

However, this isn't a forum to talk about the offerings of the fruits of your significant other's labors -- this is a tribute to you, pops. Our gift to you, in lieu of flagties:

What was the PS3 surge all about a few months ago?

that doesn't really narrow it down...

a mix between Yakuza 3 and Resident Evil 5 expect 110% more sales when FFXIII comes out

actually, 110% is low balling it...

That massive surge you are referring to was when the FF13 demo was released with Advent Children. The PS3 had actually been ahead of the Wii pretty consistent until that point but since then it has been back to usual.

It was something like a 50K increase in sales ... was over 200% at the time. When the full game drops expect the numbers to go through the roof ... then come crashing down a few weeks later. Price cut FTW.

When does Monster Hunter release for the Wii?

i don't know about the release date, but when it comes out, the universe will destroy itself.

Monster Hunter 3 comes out on August 1st in Japan. There is also a Monster Hunter bundle that includes a black Wii. It will be interesting to see how the game sells on something other than a portable platform. I expect sales to be fantastic and it will probably be the best 3rd party title without a Nintendo character on the cover (M&S at the olympics).

Monster Hunter 3 might increase Wii sales. But just wait until Dragon Quest X is released there.

The Wii will crush everything in Japan on the week that Dragon Quest X is released, and it's a guarantee. Hell, Dragon Quest IX is on it's way to do that on the DS in about a month.

It's going to be a powerful summer for Wii in Japan, quite powerful. They don't have anything to nearly stand up to FFXIII later on in the year, but they have a few somethings that will keep them powerful (Samurai Warriors 3, Tales of Graces, New Super Mario Bros Wii)

It's waiting for the Black Wii bundled with Monster Hunter 3.

How is that sad? It's really not THAT low when you consider that this is a weekly chart, and Japans population, and that no games of particular interest to the Japanese have been released recently. For a population of ~128mil, shifting ~100k consoles in a week during a recession isn't bad at all.

You're forgetting that FF13 is still exclusive to the PS3 in Japan. And that Japan will go crazy for FF14.

Nobody's gonna go crazy for FFXIV.

Lets not kid ourselves with sales in Japan. Their tastes are obviously very different from ours. I guess I could throw China in with it. There are the guys that come up with crazy ultra-violent, ultra-sexual, ultra-weird cartoons. Im not judging them except only to say many of them have some strange tastes.

IMO, I dont care how the sales go over there. The bottom line is that they cater to the RPGs(Sony) and the cartoonish anme looking stuff (Wii). And that is never going to change so the sales for the most part will never change much.

Been a while since we've had a "why do we care" comment in a J-hardware sales thread.

You are ABSOLUTELY right about Final Fantasy XIII....I completely forgot that one.

That will definitely cause a dramatic shift upwards for the ps3.

However like WRE I highly doubt people will care that much about XIV. Personally MMOs aren't my thing. If it's free and on the 360 I may give it a shot. That guy they showed in the trailer look absolutely hot.......

Just turn your monitor upside-down and pretend your in your happy place... Or 2007, which ever you like.
