How are they controlling it? You would need a massively long usb extender and a wired controller depending where your hook up the xbox.

Even on a huge ass TV, splitscreen still sucks.

Trust me, I've played on the giant movie screens multiple times.

good thing the screen has two sides! Four actually I think but the other 2 are a bit smaller in comparison.

Yeah the problem with splitscreen is aspect ratio, not size.

I'll take a crappier aspect ratio if it involves playing right there with my friends. I'd rather be in the physical company of them for something like this rather than online.

Remember at Sony's E3 press conference when they said that only the PS3 could do games on that big of a screen?

Yeah.

When did I suggest that it would...?

I merely stated the fact that Sony claimed only the PS3 could run games on the screen as large as the one they had at E3 which is smaller than the screen in this video.

Yeah - i remember that.

There is no reasoning behind that comment & Trenton is an idiot for saying something so absurd.
Both the PS3 & XBOX 360 output 1080p visuals, so i have no idea how anyone can come to that conclusion.

That's what I mean, nutman - why would anyone believe Sony's comment? The game system isn't driving the projection of the image. Very stupid thing for Sony to suggest.

Remember when Microsoft said there was no need for HD gaming and took 2 years to get around to putting an HDMI port on the 360 after they were proven wrong?

They meant the resolution for that particular demo was higher than 1080p. I think it was double the resolution or something. But either way the size itself doesn't mean anything either.

@ PN04. You dont need to have an HDMI port to have HD. My 360 was the reason I bought a an HD TV with just component. Now that I have a newer Xbox with HDMI, it doesn't look any different but a hell of a lot more convenient.

What? You realize the 360 was the first HD game console right? You don't need HDMI to put out HD visuals. The 360 comes with Composite AND component cables.

PN04, are you serious?

You mean the 360 that was shipping WITH HD CABLES for an entire year before the PS3 (which STILL doesn't come with anything but SD composite cables) was even released?

Actually, both the PS2 and the original Xbox were capable of HD (720p). There were only a few games produced that took advantage of it and finding the cables was a bit of a chore.

That's not true at all. Who told you that? The Xbox was suppose to be true HD, but it didn't happen. Xbox and PS2 can do 480p with the right cables.

Nice trolling Nutman but your memory is incorrect. You are probably mixing up reality with what you want to believe is true. You are thinking of a GT:5P demonstration from October of last year.

If they said it then lets see a link and I'll admit I was wrong. Otherwise, you are trolling. Period. Back it up or it doesn't mean anything.

Ignatius is right about the Xbox 1 (not sure about the PS2). I had HD cables for my Xbox and ran Halo 2 at 720p. It even says 720p on the Halo 2 box.

@Nutman

In a way his statement was true. I don't want to seem like I'm defending the statement (because now that I went back and re-watched I remember that now) but it's a fact that at their E3 keynote the only screen that size showing that resolution was from the PS3.

It's hard to believe anyone actually took that type of a statement seriously. I guess you must be an X-Box type of guy to be remembering that stuff. I had completely forgotten.

I don't think you were trolling so I apologize and I had my information mixed up for a moment. The statement is so absurd as not to be taken seriously as a matter of fact. It seemed more like E3 keynote chest beating that all of the talking heads tend to do. Hell, they play the Madden Nation finale every year on the big screen at Time Square in New York so I'm not sure why anyone would even think he was saying it like a fact.

It kind of befuddles me that people took that comment seriously ... maybe he meant it literally but I don't think thats the case. None the less you are right and he did say it and it could be interpreted that way. It could also be spun so that he is correct, though.

@Tyler

Halo 2 wasn't 720p on the original XBox. I have the box right here and it says "HDTV 480p". I think you're confused with the fact that the XBox 360 runs both Halo 1 and Halo 2 at 720p.

Anyway, there were actually 30 or so games on the XBox that ran at 720p or 1080i. Some actually looked better at 480p, IMO. Soul Calibur II, for example, ran at 720p, but it did so with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It ran 480p with a 16:9 aspect ratio. I preferred the latter myself. Just Google it up and you can find the list of games pretty easily.

The size of the screen and the resolution being displayed aren't one in the same. I just want to point out what he actually said is different than saying only the playstation 3 is capable of displaying on a screen that size. It's sort of splitting hairs depending on how you want to deduct what he meant.

Didn't that screen have a larger resolution than 1080p, and they said only the PS3 could play it on a screen of that resolution? That's very different than talking about the size of the screen.

I can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. However, I do have a large screen. I forget what the experts say is when you can tell the difference, however I would take a guess that you could tell in Cowboy stadium :D.

There's almost no perceptive difference between 720p and 1080i. I actually prefer 720p if those are the two options, but yeah 1080p is where the difference is.

What's with everyone misremembering stuff tonight?

It was in reference to a GT:5P demonstration ... (from the link I posted) -

"One of these, was a time trial competition using Sony’s newest digital cinema projector, the “SRX-S110”. Gran Turismo 5 prologue is already in Full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels, providing the highest resolution possible in today’s TV content. However in this time trial, the Full HD image was increased to twice the resolution both vertically and horizontally (4x the surface area), enabling game play at an ultra high resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. This was performed by connecting and synchronizing four Playstation 3’s outputting a quarter of the image each at 1920x1080 pixels, but you must remember this demands an extremely high quality image from the source that can withstand the ultra high resolution. It can be said that this demonstration was only made possible, because the source image was *********Gran Turismo*********

What supported this time trial on the display side, was the newest digital cinema projector from Sony, the SRX-110. This “4K”SXRD”(*1) projector is the next generation in projector technology, enabling a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels, equivalent to the high resolution image of 35mm film. The high 4000:1 device contrast ratio and a response time of 5 milliseconds, also adds to the level of breathtaking image expression introduced here.

The crowd was simply amazed by the clarity of the image displayed on the massive 220 inch screen, and the players who participated in the time trial expressed their excitement of how perfectly in focus the screen is even close up, and at the quality of Gran Turismo."
