"Aside from the relentless, soul-crushing WoW-like grind for unlocks to put you on an even footing with grind-happy, skill-less rocket whores?"

you mean the multiplayer? here's a thought: the more you play, the better you are. they unlocked their stuff because they played longer. so they get BETTER. and it wasn't a grind at all. i got to general within 4 days...

It makes me wonder though, why couldn't they pick a magazine that would cause less problems for their subscribers? I mean someone is going to have some trouble over this.

What magazines does Ziff Davis even have left? I imagine it would be tough to find something suitable to fill that EGM-sized gap (and Maxim certainly doesn't fit the bill), though that begs the question of why they didn't just offer refunds to paying subscribers for however many issues they had left. Couldn't afford it, maybe?

That's funny. I just renewed EGM right before it ceased operation. Was wondering if the subscription would be honored. Haven't seen Maxim show up yet, and I can wait to explain this to the rest of the family.

Same thing here. Don't really want the rest of the family thinking less of me for this crap. I kept my EGM subscription active while I was away at school because my younger brother at home liked the read them. I imagine my mom isn't going to be quite as happy when Maxim shows up.

The soul-killing unlock grind? I guess it's unfair to call that RPG-like. MMO-like?

Maxim? They couldn't at least move the subscriptions over to a related mag? Not even sell the list to Game Informer to give Ziff some much-needed cash? GI is nowhere near as good as EGM was, but at least it covers the same stuff.

I like lovely ladies, but the knuckle-dragging Michael Bay mentality of Maxim isn't remotely my thing. More for the recycling bin, along with the other junk mail.

Eh, KZ2 had good models, had a good rendering engine, most of it was good. The textures were what killed the graphics for me. It was like someone made a high-poly mod for Doom 3, and kept the same textures. Then you get to the facial animations and get pulled right out of the experience.

I really wish they made this game on the PC or 360 personally, since as far as I know they both have more RAM. (Despite what the average 360 game will lead me to believe.) Of course, they wouldn't be able to do as much neat rendering tricks, and the smoke wouldn't of looked as good.

I'd also like to argue against the 'decent controls' comment. The game wasn't sluggish despite what BigFat says, it controls a bit more realistically since it has smoothing, and if you turn sensitivity up, its not that bad. However, the fact there was no option to toggle cover meant my hand would start hurting if I tried to play in a manner that means I don't get shot to pieces in two seconds.

yeah, it was especially noticeable when rico would turn around and talk to you. and as for your PC/360 comment, i disagree. one of the biggest draws for the game were the graphics, and on PC, the graphics wouldn't have been as impressive. and the 360 wouldn't have been able to pull off the lighting effects which were part of what made the game look so amazing to begin with.

the worst part of SP were the squadmates. I think Rico was just about the worst game character ever. First he's just an asshole with a stupid voice and attitude, then the stuff with Phappens, and a minute later he acts like it's no big deal, then he fucks over the whole ISA! On gameplay though i really enjoyed the cover, i thought it was really cool to have cover in an FPS that stays FP, I wish more games did it, it just doesnt make sense for someone like Master Chief with 40 something years of military experience to run and jump around getting shot, and even less sense for a non superpowered guy like CoD protagonist

wayne, i HATED rico with a passion, but i loved garza and i kinda liked natko. garza was just a likeable character in general, and natko was cool because of how he messed with garza and natko. but rico was a douche, plain and simple.

I subscribed to Maxim back in my early twenties. It's nice to pick it up to look through every now and then, but I dropped my subscription for a reason. They just rehash the same crap over an over again with nothing new to add. Half of the magazine is ads for garbage. The "reviews" section was a joke. It's obvious that they're paid to give everything good remarks. I won't deny that others don't do this as well, but at least they try to make it look legit. My sympathies to those getting this. I would say to opt for the refund.

I got a different issue than this one. It was the one with Olivia Wilde in some kinda see through white thing showing off the outline to her puffy nipples. Still haven't cracked it open yet.

Maxim doesn't work for me like EGM did.

I would read EGM on the toilet, and all was well. No erections.

Maxim, like other "porn" (pseudo or real) does not belong in the bathroom.

Yeah.

I always liked Maxim (and moreso, Stuff) but they need to stay away from games or get a gaming editor who knows what the fuck they're doing.

You know, first I got an issue with Moon Bloodgood on the cover and said "WTF?...I'll take it" A few days later I got the issue with Jennifer Love Hewitt and the attached note explaining why I got it and went "OOOOhhhhhhh yeah..." I figured what the hell, my refund would be 20 bucks at the most plus I like to turn off my brain and engage the male desire for boobs, guns, explosions and boobs every once in a while. Plus my girlfriend doesn't mind and actually reads them, she's cool like that. Now if I could just get her to play something beyond flower and Wii...

So I had 4 years of EGM left thanks to all the free subscription deals over the net, and now I have 4 years of Maxim...Question is, how much of a refund would it be if I were to cancel, assuming I never paid for my subscription...?

Being married I had to quickly hide my latest issue of "EGM". Now I have to unsubscribe to a magazine I didn't ask for. Thanks.

Of course, for the company this is all in the name of saving money and maybe even converting some people to another subscription to make up for lost income. I get it, but the OPTION would have been nice.

I have to say that girl magazines are 100x worse for the ego than guy mags. I sat there listening to some friends rattle off articles from a cosmopoliton (sp?) and that has to be the most ridiculous magazine ever created.

Hahaha. This happened to me last week. I'm a female, and I was very confused when I opened my mailbox to see Jennifer Love Hewitt's boobs (speaking of, have they always been that big?) in there. I don't really mind, but it is a bit wtf. My boyfriend and I had a good laugh over it, though. I even started to read it. There was a section about what you should do if a chimp ever attacks you. It told me I should make sure to protect my balls so the chimp doesn't castrate me. Very valuable information for a girl, that is!

Gee, thanks for the cleavage laden kindling.

The real crap part about this is that if you'd prefer a refund to the remainder of your subscription to EGM instead of the Maxim subscription, you have to snail mail the request in. Good luck with that...

Man I hope Ziff Davis tanks completely.

Ha. I've written them a letter asking for a refund. It's funny; I received a letter two months ago stating I'd be getting OXM in place of it, which was fine. Then Maxim showed up last week.
